Remove stock antenna connector?

I'm putting a Kenwood deck unit in my wife's 92 Z/28 and the stock male doesn't seem to fit well in the Kenwood female connector. Is it ok to cut them both off and just use regular male/female wire connectors?

Thanks
Jeff

Scoshe actually offers an adapter kit to fit the antenna to aftermarket radios, it just plugs into your antenna and then into the radio.
I think it's available at Walmart or online.
Trying to wire up another solution is tricky because the wire in the antenna lead is very thin.
