Sick of dead fuel pumps. Help!!
OK I have gone through 3 fuel pumps now replaced by my shop. Now they are like hey it might be a wiring problem (ya think?)
Anyway I call the electric place they want me to take it to and all the guys there act like I'm some kind of dumbass and a big hassle. Going to cost me 150$ just to look so I thought i would come here to see if anyone has any ideas as to what this is. Fuel pump is put in it runs great for about 2 hrs then stops running because it burns up the pump. Car is 1987 Trans AM 5.0 TPI.

It could be were the wires go thru the pickup assembly. Look for discoloring or melting. Also use a DVOM to check the resistence of each wire while wiggiling them at the passthru. Moving the wires while changing the pump will sometimes reconnect them for a short period of time then they fail again. Mike

Update on "dead" fuel pump
I swear I'm retarded but if it helps someone else later then I don't care about looking like a complete dumb ***. It wasn't the fuel pump, I towed it to a elec. shop and was told about a week later that it was out of gas
WOW!! do I feel dumb. Apparently when the first mechanic put in my new fuel pump they broke the sending unit or something when they installed it and now when I'm at half a tank according to the gauge it is actually bone dry. I swear I'm retarded, but she is running like a champ again with a full tank of gas
