Unknown Switch In My Car?

This unknown switch is located above my hood realease handle and its parallel to the floorboard. Its been bothering me here lately, but now that i accidently flipped the switch and kept flipping it trying to figure out what it does, i forgot what its last possition was! I dont want to run my battery down if its an accessory, such as a light! It looks stock.

Welcome to TGO. Providing full info about your car, regardless of your question, is useful. The switch is not OE.

Re: Unknown Switch In My Car?

My uneducated guess is that it's a valet switch.

Re: Unknown Switch In My Car?

Damn it, im sorry, I intended to leave specs on my car but I obviously failed to do that. Its a 1985 Firebird Trans-Am. 305 TPI, with WS6 package. I would take a picture of the switch I am talking about but I cant seem to find my camera (so unhappy about that). The switch doesnt look stock at ALL, its just looks too professional. Also, with the knowledge I have of the previous owner (and only owner before me), I HIGHLY doubt she installed the switch... as she was a topless dancer. I bought the car for $5,000 with just under 13,000 miles on it! Not bad huh? She had it in the garage most of its life. Ill try to find this camera and get a picture of that switch. Honestly I need to trace it myself and stop asking others, but I dont have time with school going on right now.

Re: Unknown Switch In My Car?

Does it have an aftermarket alarm on it? The valet switch sounds like a good possibility.

Re: Unknown Switch In My Car?

The possibility of it being a valet switch has crossed my mind a few times but I have only gone to the extent of trying to start the vehicle with the switch it both positions, and it started both times, or could there be/is there more to it than that? I still have not gained time to trace the wire, and I feel lazy because of that. ALSO, i took a closer look at the switch, i take back what i said about it being prefessional, it is definitley NOT stock. I put more light on it and came to find out it looks like it was cut out with a small dremel tool. No wire is exposed. Im gunna have to look further into this. I was under the impression it was stock, but, it looks like yall were right, its not. Could it possibly have anything to do with the ADS superchip she had installed prior to me buying it? I doubt that, but hell, who knows.
