idiot lights
I have a non-ecm, carbed, 350, 4spd, Camaro
I have both "choke" and "upshift" lights and I'd like to hook them up, just for fun. I do have an electronic choke carburetor (EDL-1406)
I was thinking of hooking up the upshift light like the ones on those stand alone tachs but don't know where to start
any help?

Re: idiot lights
You can buy an aftermarket shift light, unless you want it like factory.
Aftermarket, would come on at a set rpm, factory varies, and I am not sure, but I think it's info, comes from, I would assume the computer, thur the tps, vss, and map sensors.

Re: idiot lights
Im wondering if there is a way to hookup the light to the factory tach like ones on a aftermaket. I know stock goes through the ECM but I don't want it stock anyway because I want it for performance, not economy
so why would GM make a light that says "choke" as a battery light? thats silly unless there trying to say the battey is choking because its not getting enough power? LOL
so could you hook it up to the choke? that be cool then you know on cold days when your cars ready to go

Re: idiot lights
The stock choke light doesn't operate through the ECM. My 84 Z28 didn't have an ECM.
GM, Ford, and Chrysler (among others) have used the choke indicator on carbed cars for years to alert the operator of a charging system problem. Long before the ECM became an integral part of the vehicle.
No reason you couldn't hook up the choke light to act as a shift light, provided you used an ignition box of some kind (MSD or other) to trigger it. You'll just have to trace some wiring and figure out how.
