question about the sensor above oil filter

hi i was hoping someone could tell me what the sensor just above my oil filter is. i cant seem to find a replacement anywhere i can find the oil pressure sending unit but mo luck on the pressure switch thanks any help would be apreciated.

so thats the oil pressure switch? And the unit under the distributor is the oil pressure sending unit that sends the signal to the gauge?

You have the same setup that I have in my iroc. The top one by the distributor is for the guage and the lower one by th filter is for the dummy light.

it's the one that sometimes makes your oil press. readings act stupid . good luck .

LOL!! I never knew that till one day I broke it and had to replace it. All of the sudden the pressure was great!! I'm so stupid!!! Sorry got a flash back....

To clear this up: our cars unfortunatelly don't have many dummy lights (I wish - should have bought a Ford ) so this oil pressure switch serves as a backup circuit to feed the fuel pump.

I'd also like to add that in '88 or '89, the oil pressure gauge sender and oil pressure switch were combined into a single unit above the oil filter.

'87 and older had divorced units as white rider described.
