What is this relay? And what does the last wire go to?

So I have an 87 Formula, originally a 305 with computer controlled carb. I am getting the car painted this wednesday and I have just one last thing to finish under the hood. I would really like to figure this out now before I get it painted so I won't have to roam around under the hood scratching up the new paint.

My AC compressor is not turning on. Don't bother asking about the parts, I've checked them all, they are all good. It is definitely a wiring problem. I have gone through all the wiring under the hood and fixed a few things the previous owners messed up. The relay in question is the last wiring issue, hopefully it's related to my AC not coming on.

The relay is on the firewall on the driver's side. The one on the left...

So in the clip, there are 5 slots for metal clips. 3 slots each have one metal clip with a wire on it going to the loom. One slot has a clip with 2 white wires going to the loom. Then there is a slot with a clip and one white wire... cut off...

But then the relay itself has only 4 tabs...

The questions are 1. What parts is this relay for? 2. Where is that cut wire supposed to go to? 3. Does anyone know the part number to the correct relay that goes there? This can't be the correct relay as there are only 4 tabs in it yet the clip clearly HAD 5 clips.

Does anyone know the answers? Thanks

In jpg1, the white wires are a replacement connector that is why one is not used.

The factory diagram says from right to left, differential press. sensor, cooling fan relay, and the one you are asking about, throttle kicker relay. Also behind that relay is the ESC module (knock) if you have the L69 HO engine.

It isn't.

The A/C compressor clutch gets power from he HVAC controls (HTR A/C fuse 25A). Controls-> pressure switches-> compressor clutch

Yes, what he said. A simple toggle switch bypass will verify that the clutch on the compressor is good. Use a test light to check for voltage along the way. My problem was the AC pressure switch.

Re: What is this relay? And what does the last wire go to?

Randy. What you said in the first post made a lot of sense. All the white wires are connected to other wires in the loom using butt connectors. One of those wires I do know goes to the fan switch, and since I moved my fan switch to the intake next to the water neck I'll now be able to easily re-route that wire.

Thanks for the info, I'll be cleaning up the rest of the wire tomorrow night. After it's painted I'll just take it to a good shop I use and have them fix the AC, I am sick and tired of trying to find the problem.
