Do I need a VSS sensor?

So I am continuing my rebuild on my camaro and I am wondering if I need the tranny VSS for the cruise. My control module has a red wire coming out of it but I have nothing to plug into it and I know it is for the VSS. I have an instrument panel from the car with the harness and it has the yellow box on the back of the speedo. Do I still require the other sensor to run it or am I missing a wire off my cluster for the module?

Any help is appreciated thx

Listing the make, model, and year of car is always helpful. 82-89 Camaros are cable driven and have the VSS on the rear of the cluster (you don't even require the ECM for the cruise if you ground the module). 90+ has the VSS on the tail shaft of the trans. Perhaps the following link will be useful:

Oh sorry its an 83 camaro with cable speedo and the cruise off an 84. The cruise is the electronic type (no transducer).

'84 up cruise does need the VSS.
