Wiper confusion
So I've always hated driving my 86 in the rain because it has the crappy high or low wipers but recently I decoded my RPO's just for fun, and I found out that my car came with the intermitent wipers option. Problem is they are not intermitent they only have 2 settings, high or low. It doesnt have the right switch for intermitents. Any ideas whats up with that? Can I simply swap out the combo switch on the column back to the one its supposed to have or is something else different as well such as relays or the motor. Any insight is appreciated

Are you the original owner of the car?
If the RPO's tell you that you have intermittent wipers, then you should have them, maybe someone changed out the multifunction switch, with a cheaper one, after they broke it?
IIRC, the wiper motor is different for the intermittent wipers, I'll check it out, and see what I come up with, and get back to you!!
Hopefully, it's just a multifunction switch mix up, as it will be the cheaper fix!!!
Depending on the route you take, a "new" multifunction switch can cost up to $200.00 or more!!

Re: Wiper confusion
Yes, the motor is the same, and the motor cover is different!!
I had to go and check it out, because I couldn't remember!!
modern0utlaw, can you get the part number off of the motor cover?
We should be able to determine from that, what you need to do, in order to get your pulse wipers back!!
P.S. The RPO for the pulse wipers is CD4, and hopefully it's just the multifunction switch that needs replacing!!

Re: Wiper confusion
Ok, i also realized that this car is supposed to have cruise control as well, and it doesnt. I do already know that I will have to change out the multifunction because its obviously not the right one for intermittent. I can get the right multifunction from classic industries for $150.At least I dont need a new motor. Where can I find the other stuff I need
Update: The numbers on the motor cover are 22038484 and WP8. whats different about the motor covers?

The motor cover is supposed to come with the circuit board that controls the motor's functions, be it delay, or speed!!
The number that you are looking for is 22039684, I can't find the number 22038484, is it possible the number that you quoted is wrong/hard to read??
As for the cruise control, do you have the vacuum canister, and the cruise control servo still installed in the car???

Re: Wiper confusion
The picture of the inside of the cover is not giving me any "joy", as I don't see any Printed Circuit board in there!!
The PC board is the "brains" of the whole deal!!

Re: Wiper confusion
@87IROC-DAN61 It is definitely 22038484, I triple checked. And yes the servo is actually still there along with the canister.
@Apeiron The VIN and RPO sheet do match. I double checked just now and I have checked before because of the odd things I've found with this car. This car has undergone some serious surgery in its life. I've found that it used to be red. It has 92 ground effects on the front. It has a different hatch than its supposed to because theres no third brake light. And it has a 350 truck engine in it with the TPI mated to it. Dont even get me started on the wiring hack job The list goes on but im not much for typing.
I just pulled the cover off of my 88 that has the pulse wipers and now I see the difference. There is a circuit board in there. Where can I find one of these covers
Edit: I just dont see how the PO would have been coersed into changing the cover and the multifunction switch. I'm starting to think it doesnt have the original steering column because it doesnt have the NK3 wheel like its supposed to. So maybe they swapped in a whole new column with the non pulse wiper switch for some reason and then changed the cover

Sorry to hear the confirmation of the wrong cover, www.compnine.com has them listed for $141.13 ouch!!!
I do believe that some junk yard seaching is in your future!!
You'll still need the correct multifunction switch though, $141.13 + $150.00 for pulse wipers.........the ***** in your court now, junk yard looks like a good place to start!!
What I would do is, buy the multifunction switch new, and look in the junk yard for the right cover with the circuit board!!
On the bright side, at least with the right multifunction switch, you should have cruise control back!!

Re: Wiper confusion
Ouch, I thought the multifunction was overpriced, but 140 for a cover. I'll definitely have to do some junkyard huntin. It looks like I can get some used ones on ebay cheap, around 20 for motor with cover.
Thank you very much for you guys' help. Its greatly appreciated

Remember, it's not the cover, but the Printed Circuit that costs so much!!
