Fuel pump, relay, and harness replaced now battery dies
1992 GTA 5.0 5spd
so we put a new fuel pump, relay and fuel pump wiring harness on the car after my son called and said it wouldn't start. Started up after priming and ran great. Sat at home for an hour or so and went to start it and the battery was dead. Jump start and away he goes...15 minutes later I get a call the car died and won't start. Jump start and straight to Autozone. Battery is dead...1 hour later after they charged it and we put it back in the battery is not charging (car started up great). Take off the alternator and test it...it is fine.
Put the alternator back in and car won't start. Fuel pump doesn't seem to be working. Put a new relay on and still nothing.
What now? It is sitting in the Auto Zone parking lot.

Sounds like you should check the integrity of the cable from the alternator to the battery that carries the charge. Also clean solid connections. Next time you get the car to run put a voltage tester on the battery terminals. If not 13 volts or more it's not charging the battery

That sounds like it's only measuring the battery voltage on full charge. Try it again after you've run it a bit and shut it off. If voltage continues to drop there's the problem, either alternator or cables. I'm assuming you cleaned with wire brushes the battery terminals and the connecting cables. Enough stuff in there will have the same results you're getting. Polish those things. Check voltage on battery terminals and cable ends, should be the same

I'm terrible at chasing down wiring gremlins. Good luck to you. Yeah, having to move the steering wheel the right way to get it to work sounds like that might have you on the right track
