Key forward, fan always on.

Key forward, fan always on.
So when my key is forward, my fan runs constantly with/without the car on. It's literally the only issue with my car atm (knocks on wood), and I want it fixed.
I was told by the guy I bought the car, that it was hardwired by the previous owner, and the part to fix it was $10, it was some kind of switch. Now I checked the fan relays mounted behind a bracket on the driver side, they are working perfect.
I need to find where the fan was hard wired to, but I also need to know where the switch is, that turns on the fan on a 92 camaro rs 305? I've heard rumors it's on the passenger side of the block.
Does it have 1 wire? 2 wires? Is it a thermistor or an actual temperature switch? And does this sensor/switch tie directly into a water jacket? (That way I don't get poured on....once removed)
Thanks

Re: Key forward, fan always on.
you should have a sensor (fan switch) somewhat higher than the knock sensor (above the starter) it can be bypassed by grounding the wire attached to it, and it controls one fan.
the other fan is on a switch on a AC line and is also controlled by ECM
there is 2 big fan relays near the passenger head lights they are the best spot to by pass the fans or to rewire if hacked up.
not sure about one fan systems

Just trying to de-ghettoize my electrical system and put it back to normal operation, as nothing else is hacked up in this car. Stock, clean wirelooms and everything.

Found this:

bottom right, it shows the coolant temp switch, but it doesn't disclose it's location.....where is it? It also show's it one wire.

What you want is a coolant fan switch - it's located in the pass side head (NOT block), and has a single wire with a funny mushroom-looking connector on it.

I'm not sure why there are 2 different part numbers ... depending on your year/motor there may be a different number again. I think the differences are in what on/off temp it's preprogrammed for.
If you for "alternate fan switch" on here, you'll find a thread with different part numbers for different temp switches - so you can just get the one that has a temp you like.
If you find that the connector is bad rather than the switch, you can special order a Dorman part # 85140 from just about any parts store. You can see a pic of the connector in this catalog - upper left corner change the page number to page 26, then you'll see that part number in Dorman's catalog.
Good Luck!

Re: Key forward, fan always on.
what your forgetting to check is to see if your ac pressure switch is stuck. it happened to me the p.o. idiot hard wired the fans with 18 gauge wire and a 20 amp fuse because they wouldnt come on. i wired it back to stock and then they would run all the time. i disconnected that switch (its by your battery with a black and blue wire) and the fans now work perfectly normal at all the right temps
