91 Z28 highbeams?

So after I got my new Z28 i noticed the highbeams don't work. It isn't the actual lights, it's the switch in the car to flick them on. I think it might be missing a piece or something because it won't stay in place, and the highbeams don't come on. Is there any fix to this? I need to get it inspected and it won't pass if this doesn't get fixed. Any help is appreciated

Re: 91 Z28 highbeams?

When you pull back on the lever, it should push a thin steel rod that runs down the steering column and pushes in the front of the switch that changes between low and high beams. The switch is held on by two little screws which sometime loosen and allow too much play and a failure of the system. You want to remove the panels under the steering wheel and see what's up down there. Sometimes just taking up the slack and tightening the screws snugly solves the problem. Make sure the rod is seated in the switch and hasn't slipped out, also a possibility if the lever is loose.
