Can I just run my fuel pump on a switch?
My connector under the cars by the tank is only getting 8.5 volts can I just run a 12v switch to power my pump? Or does the relay or computer need to see eachother? Please help 86 tpi 305 camaro

So you want to turn the fuel pump on and off with a switch? Is that correct? A switch that you physically flip on and off to control the fuel pump? So if you get out of the car and forget to turn off the fuel pump, the fuel pump is stilling running, or if you get into an accident, the fuel pump is still pumping fuel to a smashed up car with you possibly incapacitated in the driver seat? ? Am I missing something here?

At the minimum run the twelve volts from the ignition wiring so it will not run if the key is not on. It is still a safty issue in the case of a crash, but for a one time drive it's your call. If you make it, run the wiring so when the engine shuts down it shuts off the pump. Good luck.
