Starter hangs up on flywheel
didn't know where to put it so since its a starter I put it in electronics.
like the title says starter wouldn't disengage the flywheel. even after I shimmed it .120" total the entire shim pack. had that starter on for years with no problems really so when it started it kinda confused me.
anyway put a new starter on and now the problem is fixed. any thoughts on this. just week springs in the starter or something?
p.s. starter and ring gear appear to be fine.

Yeah, when they break, they're broke.... no matter how good they worked before for how long...
Probably either the Bendix return spring broke, or some little piece somewhere got hung up in such a way that it got stuck out in the extended position on the shaft.

it didn't get stuck. I took the starter off and it would spring back normally. it just kept hanging up on the ring gear. when its running. shut the engine off and it would return back.

Sounds like just a longer way of saying "stuck".
Since it's off and now laying on the ground, take it apart and look at it, and YOU come back and tell us what's wrong with it instead of asking us to guess.
