Social Distancing Project

Social Distancing Project
So, while this coronavirus has made a lot of us stay at home (I'm an essential worker so, I still have to work), I thought about tackling a project that hit me out of the clear blue. I have a (I think) Speed Density TBI Harness and ECM and I have a 85 MAF TPI Harness. So, why not carefully take them apart, while documenting the color and pin location, then combine them both to make a Speed Density TPI Harness? I'm still going to go through Dynamic EFI and have them put their flash board into the TBI ECM 8746 that I have, I'll still need the Speed Density Harness so I have to have one regardless. Might as well try my hand at a solution. If anyone has done this before and written up a process or pin-out diagram, it would come in handy if you can post it here. Otherwise, I'll just document what I'm doing.

Do a Google search. There's a straight forward DIY article on converting a TBI harness to run TPI. The 90-92 3.1L harness is also really close to the TPI harness. About the only part of an 85 harness I could see reusing would be some pigtails. At the point you have more than a couple you need to change, it's usually easier to get on Mouser and order the connectors and terminals new. The older the donor harness the more likely you'll be fighting broken locking tabs, distorted and dried out weather pack seals, etc. Better to save the 85 harness for someone that needs that one year old harness, and use new components to modify the later harness.

Great, then I do have a Spd Density harness with the TBI. Thinking about it, with using my 746 ECM converted by Dynamic EFI, all I need from the TBI harness is the MAP plug/wire and the ECM connectors. I guess there is no real need to combine both harnesses, unless there is something else to give me a reason to.
Had this ECM w/Harness listed to sell, all I got was views. True, it's for a TBI system but, I thought it would at least get a nibble. Oh well, Can use it for a multitude of other 3rd Gen wiring down the road.

Re: Social Distancing Project
TBI is generally speed density.
I've got all kinds of thirdgen parts around here that no one has any interest in paying a fair price for. Yet people will go to Hawks and spend double market value for used parts. Oh well, it comes with the territory.
The Death and Taxes truth is that no one will need your spare parts until you throw them away. And generally the only person that is willing to pay for those parts that you've thrown away, is you yourself. In other words, don't chop anything up or throw it away unless you're absolutely positive you'll never ever need it, and it also helps to figure out what it'd cost to replace that part, and accept that if you ever need it later it'll cost at least that much or more to replace. Then you can wonder how you ended up with all these extra parts.

Re: Social Distancing Project
Hawks has been woohoo crazy on prices ever since they came on the scene selling used parts way back when. They've always been 50% higher than most other sources. They make "Ebay prices" look like a smokin deal, and that's saying something...

Anyway, I also realized that I need to get an extra radiator fan pigtail, I'll have to add on the Dual Fans setup. The Dynamic EFI ECM requires it. I'll have to double check with the guy in a email. I've been talking to him about what I'll need from the TBI Harness, I'll ask him if I actually do need a Dual Fan setup.
