Car: 1988 IROC-Z
Engine: 355ci TPI WORKED TO THE BALLS!
Transmission: 700R4 T-56 coming
dont forget u will need other parts than just the motor. on the 350 swap u will need a new y pipe three bolts on most heazders and 2 on the stock exhaust. Ill be keeping my exhast stock till I canb afford that I have a cat back sys on there now any way so not too bad and other thinks like plug wires mounts hoses and such add up make sure u have enough to compensate for those things too

Ok, im no expert, nor haev the intense background as most of the people on the board. but to help you out, it could be done, for 2g's canadian a good engine wont be too hard, and the lt1/ls1 swap is very intensive adn requires more $$$ then a 350. If you can get a good engine and have acces to all the equipment, go for it. I odnt know what kind of access to junk yards you have. Do plenty of research, there is tons of info on all the swaps thanx to the very helpful people on this board. Just use the search button or just breeze through some of the latest ?'s. Whats the letest conversion factor, my family and I have a house in Nova Scotia, but we havent been there in years. Call around, and explore all possibilities. o and one last thing, make sure you have everything you will need in hand b4 you begin or else you will run out of money quick.

Engine: LT1
Transmission: 700r4
RallySport92RS , it is very possible to find motor like LT1 or L98, I got mine with the tranny seat and exaust for 1700$ CAD of ebay from a guy in Montreal.

Check classifieds like Bargain Hunter and buysell.com, you might be able to find some good deals there. The key is to be patient.

That's like $1500 US right?

Unless you're getting friend prices you'd better save up a couple more g's. Or be willing to pull your budget 350 back out when it blows up after 500 miles. If it were me for $1500 hmmm....

Used block - $25 has to be 1 piece rear main seal.
Vortec heads or similar replacement complete - $600 just about as cheap as you can get
Machining - $200 +
Pistons & Rods - $400 + (unless you can find some used)
Bearings & Rings - $100
Check old crank might be able to reuse it.
Might be able to reuse push rods
Might be able to reuse fasteners
reuse valve cover.
reuse junk TBI system
reuse junk TBI cam
reuse timing chain (I highly recomend buying another one)
If you reuse the 305 heads, you'll be running a lot of compression

Now factor in another $100 or so for coolant, oil, filter, fuel filter, & other misc. junk.

It might be doable, but you'll be close.

Mine came in just under $2,000.

I had the long block assembled at a local shop after the 350 I was given to tear down in my driveway was deemed unusable. I was a little frustrated. =(

4 bolt 350 (including core charge), rebuilt .030" over, decked block, flattop hyper-eut's, rebuilt 882 stock heads, comp xe262 cam & springs, balanced, plus odds and ends like fluids, plugs, yadda. Did I miss anything?. (Besides a valuable learning experience.)

Anyhow, if I could do it again, I would've saved more money for a decent set of heads such as some Iron Eagles /w maybe 200cc runners and a bigger cam, for sure. Perhaps a XE274, seeing as how I run a T-5 with 3.73 gears.

I have to AirCare this badboy though, and they are right up there with the boys in California.

Bottom line, yeah, it could be done, but it's not any faster than a 305 with a decent set of heads and a cam I could've just stabbed in for a cheaper sum. And bang for buck is the name of the game my friend. Oh, and with the 350 going in I failed the consider the severe lack of traction through first and second gears, something to think about.

If you're gonna go with the 350, do it right the first time.

Later,
Hype.

I forgot to add...

Whatever price you see listed for a part in a JEGS catalogue will be EXACTLY twice the price once all is said and done when you pay in Canadian dollars. No joke.

$500 Vortec heads = $1,024.13 assembled in CAN $$$ /w tax.

$300 Edelbrock TES heads? = $605.00 at Mopac, /w tax.

The brutal exchange rate combined with the fact that most things are made in the US really beats on us skid-rocket pilots. Oh, that and the fact that gasoline is much more expensive. You might want to consider using 87-89 octane in your new engine.

It's factors like these that make my low-buck low-14 sec street ride one of the faster ones out there. Lame I tell you.
