62-67 327 swap into an 86 firebird
I have just recently finished building the engine and dropped it into the car, and when I went to fire it up tonight to break in the cam it wouldn't fire. When I pulled the valve covers off and checked the valve set, some of the valves were way out to lunch. So I reset everything again and tried firing it again and the same thing some of the valves were all wacky again. Also when my choke closes fuel shutes out of the carb. Has anyone had this problem before or knows what might be happening?

Car: Yes
Engine: Usually
Transmission: Sometimes
Axle/Gears: Behind me somewhere
Sounds like (1) the valves aren't adjusted right; and (2) the distributor is installed 180° out of time.

When I went to reset the valves again I noticed that the rocker studs on the loose rockers were a bit higher than the rest, so I took the rockers off #1 valves and put a straightedge on the studs and sure enough there was a difference in height. So looks like the engine won't be running for a while yet. Thanks for the info.
