I need back into the game..

hey guys, I'm in a situation here. I own two camaros that I love to death, however over the past couple years life has been getting complicated and my cars have been put on the back burner, they now are showing the signs of it. I haven't had time to do anything but basic maintenance on them and embarrasingly enough haven't had motivation to do much more despite my lofty dreams for both cars.
Well now its crunch time; I blew the motor in my modded Z28 even though I have a lot of cosmetic work i want done to it, plus wanting to squeeze some better 1/4 mile times out of it.

My other car, the TPI Iroc needs a lot of work too. I bought it in pristine shape with a tired engine. If I dont get my act together soon, it will no longer be pristine.

So i came up with a plan, to remove my modded vortec 350 and make the switch to TPI and put it into my IROC, swapping over additional parts from my Z28 to hopefully make one hell of a car out of the two.

Unfortunatly after deciding on this great scheme I have yet to do anything about it. I'm slowly turning into one of those bench racers who dreams big and doesn't deliver.

So my question is,
has anyone else been in this situation and how do you suggest I convince myself to get off my *** and get back into the hobby that I used to love so much.

Secondary motivation is a toughy. Everyone gets pretty motivated for the primary ones food and sex.

So to "git 'er done" you need to write down the objective of the project and a timeframe within which you want to complete it. List all the resources its going to take to make it happen. Time, space, money, labour etc.
Visualize the end result as much as possible.
Ask yourself is the project worth the investment?
Guess what ?? sometimes it just ain't .

Break the project down into small tasks based on a criteria of your choosing -- time, money, labour whatever.
Write the tasks down in a list moving from project start to finish. (Start with a real easy 1st step to be finished within a timeframe.)
Incorporate predetermined rewards for the accomplishment of selected goals. Write them down within the list. Set a good reward after step 1 is completed.

The list may be really long but each task will be based on your parameters, so you'll feel comfortable with each one.

Make copies of the list and tack them in prominent places
so you will see them often thereby keeping the project in your mind. (Bathroom mirror, fridge, garage, tv, shop, office etc.)

Talk the project up with some buddies and invite them to join in if they want to. (Winter's coming and it beats watching TV)

Probably the biggest single motivator is visualization of completion.

Good Luck and let me know if you decide to move ahead.

I very well could be the president of the club. The car has been parked about 8 years I recon. I'm always looking for new members.

This one is easy.... you have reliable transportation and fixing up old cars is not important to you. You also have other vehicles that might be more fun. Biggest motivator? By far beyond all question: Sell everything else and drive the car you have to fix. The only time I ever finished a car is when I had to drive it.

With the weather now, that warm couch and hockey game cries out far louder then the frigid cold, bleeding hands, and the *maybe it'll run* thought in the back of your mind...

However, I always found, watching some u-tube videos of camaros doing donuts or burnouts, or 1/4 mile runs, motivates me to get mine running better....

Also, doing things solo is always hard to motivate. You know how HARD it is to... say, jack the motor out, solo, so you put it off... Help always is a good motivation. I do things solo, and I still get stuff accomplished!

dubcity, I think Jer is here in cowtown.

Hey, hold on to that '82 Z for me if you rip the motor out of it. I'll want that year of a car in about 8 months or so.
