As long as you didn't run the car for an extended period of time while over-heating, you shouldn't have a problem. I don't believe your motor had aluminum heads, but I could be wrong. Someone correct me if so.
You can basically visually inspect it for cracks, I've blown plenty of head gaskets, checked for cracks, put it back together and ran fine. You need to worry about warping more than cracking, and even still it's unlikely unless you ran the engine while it was over-heating.

If your head gasket is blown, you shouldn't be driving it at all... not just cutting back. You're talking long-term damage down the road.

Did coolant leak out of the engine, or into the engine?
If it went in and your oil looks like a milkshake, and you've driven it, the life expectancy of your engine has been greatly reduced. So a used engine might be a better idea, but could also be worse.

Well I dont know about machine shops in Ohio but having the heads checked and all that stuff would be $50-100 and here if they turn out bad 9 times out of 10 they won't charge you nothing. If you need a 305 pm me I have a 305 tbi in a 92 camaro.

easy fixer for more power
get a used 350 from a truck, put a new cam in it and drive it stock will be faster than what you have now. and will still work with the TBI just run your tbi rich and it should make ok power with the 350
