fuel pump doesnt want to work now....

Ok, I am almost done with my engine swap, and last night the fuel pump was working just fine. Today, I go to start the car, and it wont engage the fuel pump at all! I did the swap from TBI to Carb, I have a FPR, and its all hooked up. The engine was running last night. Why now does it not want to squirt fuel?

I have left the computer in place

I can see there is no fuel because I have a clear fuel filter....

went back out, took off one of the blocks on the FPR and turned the key on, it squirted for a split second, then nothing.

Re: fuel pump doesnt want to work now....

Steel...there should be a pink wire (I think) that used to connect to the oil pressure switch, that one is the main hot wire for the pump, the initial squrit is from the relays on the fire wall, just enough to start the car and increase oil pressure to turn on the main power. I took the pink wire and connected it directly to the hot wire for my dizzy, once I turn on the key the pump comes on.

I took out all my computer stuff including the relays...hope this helps

Re: fuel pump doesnt want to work now....

I didnt feel like jacking up the car, and since I already removed the electric fan with the old engine, I just took the wire that gets hot with the key from there, and connected it to the brown wire for the fuel pump. I didn't seem to even be getting power to the fuel pump relay.

Works now

Re: fuel pump doesnt want to work now....

Make sure that is a wire that is not always on - fans are meant to run after the key is off and that would drain the battery and kill the fuel pump making the pump run 24/7

Re: fuel pump doesnt want to work now....

The fuel pump used to be powered by the fuel pump relay, which would turn on when given a signal from the ECM for two seconds after the last reference pulse from the distributor, or for two seconds after initially turning the key on. Without an ECM anymore, that wouldn't be happening.

If you cranked it long enough to build oil pressure, the oil pressure switch would have closed and powered the pump eventually. On a carbed car, there's often enough gas in the bowl to start the car and keep it running until the oil pressure rises enough to turn on the oil pressure switch.
