serpentine setup problem

so i bought an 85 camaro with no motor or anything so i dropped a 350 in it and just finished test fitting the serpentine setup from my 89 iroc on the motor and now have a slight fitment problem with my alternator i have tall valve covers and the stud on the back of the alternator hits the valve cover and does not alow me to get it into place has anyone else run into this problem? if so how did you deal with it?

Thanks

Re: serpentine setup problem

If the valve cover is aluminum like mine was, I just took a ball peen hammer to the valve cover and made a small indentation, worked perfect. If you don't like that method, Their are other alternators available that are clocked differently, that will have the stud clear the valve cover.

Re: serpentine setup problem

You don't need to get a new alternator, you can re-clock the one you've got now.

Re: serpentine setup problem

Take the case bolts out, twist the case halves into a different alignment, put the case bolts back in.

Re: serpentine setup problem

i took a hacksaw to the bolt. you can do the same with a dremel. just put the nut on before you cut it off so you can rethread after you cut it.
worked for me
