5.0tpi to 5.7tpi

i curretly have a 305 tpi in my 87 firebird and i bought a whole motor 5.7 tpi with the computer and harness out of a 91 camaro.both have maf.can i just drop it in and plug the harness and computer in and go?

if its a 91 l98 is sd not maf run the numbers on the block and intake, but no an sd will not just plug into a maf setup. But you can pull the maf setup off the car and bolt it onto the 5.7 and put it back in.

If he has the computer and harness from the '91, he can plug those into his car with the '91 TPI set-up and go.

There might be a VATS issue, that would require investigation (such as, reading the VATS tech article).

so your saying all the guages will work and everything, what about the speedo was it electric in 87?

Gages (including the speedo) don't go through the ECM.

If they're both TPI why change the entire harness? Just use your 305's stuff(meaning harness and MAF) and buy a PROM out of a MAF 350. It sucks to buy something else but changing the entire harness from computer throughout the motor will suck more. You can probably sell the harness and Speed Density computer and recoup the cost.

Or sell the MAF stuff.

SD has more performance potential, albeit at the cost of requiring tuning.
