Nope no reason, my literally 2 mins after I emailed them is when I got my reponse. No big deal I dont need it yet, but I will need it next week so hopefully it comes in Wed. before I go off to Chicago for 4 days for a school trip.
Figured Id throw it up tonight lol:

Also, here is a pic of the Hood painted the color of the car. Painted it a few weeks ago, but never took a pic. Its a cell phone pic I took before school one day this week but you get the idea its not Maroon anymore lol. The Hood is just sitting there, and so is the front bumper.

I like it too, specially the weight of it haha! The streaks you see are morning dew, not any imperfections.
Yeah engine looks good so far, alot of that stuff is just sitting there for looks, but its all looking good together. You vote to paint the heads to hide the fact they are aluminum or keep them the way they are?

Re: Starting 400 SBC Swap
Thats a good question. Usually I like the look of unpainted aluminum heads unless you're going for a clean uniform look and black everything out. Or if you're trying to hide the fact that you have aluminum heads.
I'd vote for leaving them the way they are.

Re: Starting 400 SBC Swap
Been busy, but I have updates.
Decided on keeping the Heads unpainted. I like the look of them, and besides I wont be opening the hood to most people so they wont know Im running aluminum heads anyway.
* Bolted/Torqued down the Heads & Intake w/ the ARP Bolts I ordered
* Stabbed the Distributor
* Set the Carb
* Bought Grade 8 Stainless Steel Bolts for the Motor Mounts that bolt to the block, because I lost the factory ones, and bolted them on
* Fixed the Drain Plug on the Oil Pan that was leaking
* Measured for my Pushrods
* Ordered 7.750 (Stock length) Comp Cams Magnum Pushrods, Flat Black Paint, & Header Gaskets
* Dropped Pushrods in
* Bolted Roller Rockers on
* Repainted Engine Bay Flat Black (Didnt like the Silver I had painted it)
I also ordered an all aluminum Champion 3 Row Radiator & Dual Electric Fans pushing 2800cfms, these are supposed to be a direct bolt in for our cars. For $440 Shipped I think thats not bad at all.
Trying to drop the engine in sometime this week. Im having problems with the Shorty Headers I have. Im using a 7 Qt Moroso Oil Pan, and Im going to have to modify them alot to work or buy some Headers that will work. :/

How about some pics? Whats the flat black paint for the headers? Good call on leaving the heads bare.. doesn't make sense to paint em unless you're going for the hardcore sleeper look which it doesn't sound like you are..

Re: Starting 400 SBC Swap
You want pics of the Headers? I can take some of them if thats what you want to see. No the Flat Black was for the Engine Bay, I didnt like the Silver I had painted it. In the pic the paint looks really gray, but it really isnt its a dark charcoal (flat black), and looks better than the Silver IMO.
I am going for a sleeper look, but the hood wont be opened to many people so leaving them bare is ok.

If you were going for the sleeper look you wouldn't have tried making it look like a TA, and wouldn't have the cowl hood. If you want a sleeper a late 70's malibu with wood grain works well The flat black looks great, that's what I went with last year and couldn't be happier.

Re: Starting 400 SBC Swap
So do I, thanks.
I made it a TA, because when I bought the car it already had TA Front and Rear Bumpers, and came with most of the ground effects. Was a no brainer for me to find the rest of the ground effects and do the conversion. And because I like the look of TA's more than Firebirds. Cowl Hood is more for weight reduction than looks lol.
I agree if I was going for a true sleeper Id do something out of the ordinary like a 60's Chevy pickup or wagon, but Im keeping mine as stock appearing as I can.
I too like the flat black, looks even better than I thought it would.
UPDATE:
I got the Champion Rad & Dual Electric Fans in the mail yesterday.
Today we closed up the air tubes on the Headers, and stretched them on. Also sat the engine in today, and got the motor mounts tightened up.
So far a problem we are seeing is the fuel pump inlet/outlet, well one of them is right next to the motor mount clamp that bolts to the block. There is no way you could get a fitting on there, so we notched out the mount a slight bit, but we are going to see if we are able to swivel the base of the fuel pump a few degrees. Not sure if its possible, but if not I may have to buy a different fuel pump. Other than that, a small block looks REAL good in place of the V6 that was in their last fall.
Gonna worry about the fuel pump later, but right now I went out and purchased a few Grade 8 bolts to use for Bellhousing bolts since I dont have any. Gonna try and get the tranny up in, crossmember back in, and driveshaft bolted in tonight.

Re: Starting 400 SBC Swap
After tonight we have done:
Welded air tubes shut
Headers stretched onto block
4 Qts Royal Purple Break-In oil added (3 left)
B&M flywheel swapped on
Motor sat and bolted down
Art Carr Torque Converter put in TH400
Tranny put up in place and bolted to engine
Speedo Converter bolted onto tranny
Tranny mount installed
Crossmember reinstalled
Torque Arm bolted back in
Spohn Driveshaft bolted in
Champion Rad sat in place
Im going to need a different starter because my OEM isnt going to work with this flexplate. Also need to run fuel lines, rad hoses, go through all the wiring of what I need/dont need and hook everything up, and a few more misc things.

Re: Starting 400 SBC Swap
Starting to put all the brackets and pulleys onto the front of the motor, I have already painted them gloss black. I also ordered a TCI Starter that should work with my flexplate, and ARP Bolts for my Water Pump Pulley. I also bought my lower and upper rad hoses, just stock replacement rubber hoses.
I still need to figure out the brackets for my power steering pump, I may be missing one of the brackets. I need to run fuel lines and figure out what fittings I need, run transmission cooling lines, do all the wiring and get rid of what I dont need, get an angled thermostat housing, figure out my vaccum lines, how tall of a carb spacer to run, and buy new carb studs depending on the spacer among other small odds and ends. Also need to figure out/buy throttle and kickdown cable, and I need to install my shifter but they may have sent the wrong one so Ill have to check on that.
I also need to figure out what Im going to do for a return fuel line, anyone have any suggestions?
Its coming along..hopefully itll be running within a short period of time..

Re: Starting 400 SBC Swap
Sorry I havent been around guys. All my free time has been taken up by my car and girlfriend, but Ive gotten alot more done!
* Bolted Front Bumper On
* Installed Turn Signals
* Rewired Fog Lights w/ Switch
* Wired Electric Cooling Fans w/ Switch
* Installed NightShaded Tail Lights
* Installed Battery & Ran Cables
* Installed TCI Starter
* Installed the Front of the Motor Brackets
* Installed Alternator & Power Steering Pump
* Installed Both Tranny Lines
* Installed Power Steering Cooling Lines
* Widdled Down Wires & Put Rest in Looms
* Installed Alternator Belt & Power Steering Belt
* Filled Rad w/ Coolant
* Installed Coolant Overflow & Washer Bottle
* Clocked Fuel Pump
* Installed Dual Feed Line on Carb
* Ran Flex Fuel Line From Dual Feed to Fuel Pump
* Bolted Grounds In
* Wired in Battery, Alternator, & Starter
Still have a small list to do, mainly run the fuel line from the fuel pump to the original line alongside the driver's strut. Should be doing that today tho. Have to install the Shifter, and some other small things too.

Re: Starting 400 SBC Swap
Ive been saying Id have to modify the YPipe I had to work with my Headers, because I went with a 7 Qt oil pan and its supposed to wrap under it. Well Justin (Orr89ROCZ) came out today to look. He gave me a set of Hooker Shorties and a YPipe to try before we went ahead and modified by ****. Well turns out these will work, and this Ypipe will flow a little better than mine. It wraps behind the oil pan right by the converter, but everything has clearance, its great.
Just have a few small things to do, finish up the shifter install, and get her idling at lower rpms, and set the timing right.

Re: Starting 400 SBC Swap
Actually shes been out there a few nights in the garage. I told her shes doing the first oil change on it, and she said no problem.
I have gotten alot done. I remember a few months ago when nobody took me seriously about me doing not only a V8 swap but also building the V8. Ive learned alot since then, and its nice seeing it all come together. When its finished Ill have something to enjoy.
Like I said I have to do a few more things. I have a small oil leak between the oil pan and timing cover. Nothing a bead of silicone shouldnt fix. And I have a tranny leak between the tranny line end fitting and the rad. My dad says I need adapter fittings that go into the rad, and that its another easy fix. Still have to finish up installing the shifter, and wiring in the neutral safety switch. I still need to find my speedo cable/wire too. Other than that I need to bolt up the Headers & YPipe Justin (Orr89ROCZ) gave me, and build an exhaust from there.
Anybody know what it should look like if the car was a factory 2.8 Multi Port Injection 5 Spd?

I went to Tractor Supply for mine. Grade 8, brand new, and anodized so theyll last. Just make sure you get the right length. I believe mine were 2 in., but dont hold me to that.
