96 impala ss lt1 swap ECU questions obdii

Hi,
I was reading one of the sawp guides, and it suggested to get 94-95 and not the 96 because of the 96 having obdii. Is this really something to stay away from?
I thought obdII was more friendly towards tuning , such as thru a laptop.

Can someone advise me here?

Thanks

The OBD2 costs more for the tuning programs.

You can use a 96 engine and a 94-95 computer (OBD1) and the
knock sensor from the 94-95 (black connector end).
