I'm not that familiar with the details of the T5, but you need to get those wires up to the circuit under the dash. It just completes the circuit, so you don't have to worry about which of the two wires is which.
I ran up against that converting from auto to LS1/T56. Turned out to be simple once I identified all the wires, and the back-up lights actually work now.

Re: 350 swap wiring Question
Thanks I will do some resarch on the reverse light. I need to get some good wiring diagrams for my 85.should I be looking for a relay? Also am I safe to get rid of my ecm and ecm harness from what I have read Here I will no longer need it.I decided to eliminate my cruise control, It was my understanding this is the only other thing affected by my ecm removal. Thanks again and I appreciate any input on these things.

Shouldn't need a relay. The back-up lights don't draw that much power.
If your car has an in-tank electric fuel pump, the ECM operates it.
Of course, emissions-legality is affected by removing the ECM.
