305 to 358, new kickdown cable?

In a few weeks from now Ill be swapping out my TBI 305 for a freshly built 358 small block. The engine is already done and now im just going over all the parts ill need when the time comes. My question is if i can use the stock kickdown cable braket assembly that is on my engine and just swap it over to my new engine. I know how tempermental the 700R4 is and my tranny guy said this cable has to be the correct length or it could mess the tranny up. This is the only thread I thought would have the answer, if not ill move it. I just dont need any surprises when i do the swap.

Are you keeping the TBI?

As mentioned if keeping the intake configuration you have you can use the old one. If you're getting a new style intake (carb TPI etc.) You'll need one for the appropriate type. If you have a lot of miles on yours be sure it's within adjustment range otherwise buy a new one. I personally had a bad experience with a stretched cable burning my 3-4 pack out. I didn't realize how stretched it was until I went and got a new one!

Im converting over to a carb and using a performer rpm intake. I just put a new tranny in the car and the shop said the cable was fine and wasnt streched out. I thought since the TBI and carb are so alike, in the sense of their design, that i could just use the same brackets and call it a day

The centerline of the throttle shafts is in a different location. Whatever cable and brackets you use will work as long as the geometry comes out right when its installed.
