Okay guys, i just installed a new crate 383 into my project car, and i have everything ready but the fuel pump, iv read that you cant rune an electronic pump unless you have the regulator, and i dont think a mechanical one will fit with the bracket that i saved off the stock motor, im just wanting some feed back as to which kind of pump people like most, mechanical or electric, and how they managed to bypass the stock intank pump, thanks.

Run a mechanical if its a street engine. Holley # 12-327-11 is a great in expensive pump.

if your running carb then definitely go mechanical.
less hassle, and easy to install.
youll have to drop the tank,take out the electric pump and make a pickup with a piece of fuel line and compressin fitting..
pretty easy

yes im runnin a carb, a 750 holley, and i was leaning towards mechanical, but im running the accesory bracket off the stock engine, so where i can keep then tensioner im running an ac bypass though, and no smog pump, only thing is i dont know if the pump would bolt up with that bracket, the part where the smog pump goes looks like it might be in the way? anybody try this before? stock brackets with a mechanical pump? and thanks for all the feed back.

oh and i made a door in the trunk for my fuel pump, :P got tired of dropping the tank when the pump died on me.

For easy of installation ;some just replace the hi pressure TPI intank pump with the low pressure one from a CFI /TB car and use a non return carb regulator to adjust the pressure

As reg is non return type you no longer need the return line to tank

yeah my car was a tbi it still has the stock pump in it, where would i place the regulator? on the return line from the pump? sorry i dont have much knowledge of this fuel injected stuff. and thats what i was reading from most of the threads i looked into, and i read you have to wire a switch to turn on the pump?

The holley reg noted fits on the line into carb ; is non return type so no other plumbing needed.Just line from pump in and line to carb out

Depends what wiring you have gutted out in the carb swap.
Stock computer and wiring will still run pump even if EFI no longer in place.
If ECM gone then you need a "key on "12V wire from Ign switch to existing fuel pump relay.
Turning the key on will make pump run.

alright this is making more sense now, i apprecaite all the information. and i gutted all the plugs i wouldnt need in the engine bay, but i didnt cut any wires running from the ecm to the switch or pump so it should still work right? and when yal say return line regulator, you are referring to a regular fuel pressure regulator right?

Depends what you call regular?
Stock EFI reg is bypass type, has line back to tank which you no longer require;
some hi perf carb setups run a bypass reg as well

okay i understand now, so if im correct and if i havnt cut any wires i shouldnt have, all i do is buy the right regulator for my application hook it up, run my lines from the regulator, across to my stock line, and turn the key and i should have a work fuel system again?
