Halogen headlight source

Drove my Camaro at night for the first time in 2 years on Thursday. Forgotten how bad the headlights are! I mean really bad!! So, a few phone calls later and I located some halogen units. If anyone is interested, they are at West Midlands American Vehicles, located in Wolverhampton. Priced at about £45 each with bulbs. Telephone Tim on 01902 481489. Interestingly, the sealed beam units cost about £36 each!

Anybody else using halogen on their third gen?

Andy.

Seems a little pricey Andy. These headlights are used by some old euroboxes so should be available at a scrapyard or via Lucas / LSUK.

Yes. However, the housings for Pontiacs are considerably different. Halogens are available for both as sealed beam units in the U.S., but meet Canada/U.S. DOT standards, which are less stringent than some standards in many countries of Europe. Poor beam cutoff at the top, lots of random hot spots across the center of the beam spread, and entirely too much sie lighting on high beams are typical of the older standard DOT lamps.

On a side note, the one advantage enjoyed by Camaros is the independent adjustabilty of low / high beam housings for best control. I've circumvented the problem by correctly aiming the driving lamps and installing 100W halogens in their housings. They are rewired to operate all the time, not only when the low beams are switched on.
