Do People complain about ur exhaust???

I hav 91 Z28 G92 with Magnaflow Exhaust system (almost 4 inch tips) Anyways there actually pretty loud for magnas i must say i was very shocked... Anyways i live in a nice small lil yuppy kinda town in new england and it seems that every times i drive the maro (very rare drivin it) ppl start to yell at me... People that are walking around town, or when there workin on the yards and i pass by... Everyone tells me to slow down my exhaust is to loud, but really im just goin the speed limit or maybe a couple miles over it cuz i dont really even drive fast wit it ( once or twice i have) I dunno some Cops in town are yelling at me and tellin me i should even take them off or they give me a stupid ticket... I was in the town newspaper once under the Police Log " Reported mid 80s black camaro running down Downey RD , reporter claims the vehicle is to loud" I mean there Magnas I dunno i love them and thats all that matters Im just wonderin if any of u third gen owners are gettin complaints for exhaust noises... i was just sharin my story for the hell of it...

The only people that complain about our loud exhaust is the dumb local small town cops. I've idled around the bigger towns and cities around here with open headers, right past cops and they don't even look twice.

I was driving nicely around a neighboring corn town with a catback flowmaster setup on my old 92 camaro, and I got a noise citation and the requirement of a quieter exhaust before I could pay the ticket. If I didn't pay the ticket, it would do something like double in cost every week after a month. This was LOW RPM in a 35 mph zone, and I was doing the SPEEDLIMIT. And yes, the cat was on it too. Making it even quieter. He must have been one bored, corn-fed, pig.

I gotta get out of this town...

My old 5 spd 305 HO had TES hedders, and a flowmaster one chamber muffler. It has a real deep sound.
Neighbors never complained.. just mentioned it to me..

i have a flowmaster 80 series crossflow, otherwise stock.

driving through neighborhoods at 20-25 mph (at or under speed limit) i often see parents reach for their kids or look for them when they hear me coming.

a few years back on my 71 camaro, a neighbor actually called the cops (it also has a flowmaster on it). same thing, doing 25.

it's annoying and is one reason i want to ditch the flowmaster on my 91. don't need to attract attention from people like this.

WOW . Your Magnaflow is to loud? I'm planning on putting one from a 4th gen on my car after I swap my engine in. I guess people in your town are just jealous their cars don't sound like that.

When i had my 86 and only a bullit muffler, new cat and headers, my dad had to use it a few times in the morning for work. he left at 7am. My neighbor came over and said his wife gets woken up when my dad starts it to let it warm up. I replied that its good, she's never late for work then. It was only temporary that he used it in the mornings, and i wasnt gonna quiet it down for that.

My 91 is louder and its very rare that i start it up in early in the morning. Havent got a complaint yet.

there's a difference between being loud and not being able to hear the tv in your house when the car is a few hundred feet away.

Couple weeks ago I actually got a thumbs up from a guy plus he motioned to roast the tires I didn't though. He looked to be in his late 50's early 60's. Don't think I've ever had anyone yell at me for being too loud, there's a lot of hot rods and muscle cars in town.

Thats too dang funny . I have never been stopped yet for my exhaust. I run hooker super comps with 3" pipes to an 80series flowmasta. No cat. It sets off car alarms often. It is loud enough for friends and family to know when I am coming. People need to lighten up about our exhausts. I mean c'mon. How many dang harleys ride around town waking up the friggin dead? I drove to the muffler shop with open headers. Noone really bothers you here. I have never been yelled at. My son has though. All he has is an 84Z28 with a stock 40 series flowmaster. The speed limit on our street is 25mph. Some azz and his Dad came running out into the road waving their arms yelling at him to slow down. It was because of his muffler and his age. My car is way louder than his and they have never done that to me. They came and paid me a visit to tell me my son was loud and going to fast. I told my kid if they ever run out into the street like that again, run their dang azzes over.

Haha, thats funny.
My neighbour recently came running over at 01 AM, yelling and screaming, and told me if he ever heard even a fling of noise ever again after 10pm, he would beat me up so hard that I would have markings for the rest of my life. He even repeated that statement 4 times.

But that was with my drag piped Harley, so I can relate to at least being bothered. But now he even thinks my stock exhausted formula is too loud.

This guy came over today asked me to sign a form so he could add 2 stories to his 2 story house. Needless to say, I'm not gonna let him get away with that, especially since the area is a 1 story home maximum. If I had the guts I would rather have killed him or something. But just in case, I have a baseball bat handily right inside my main door.

Do you have a pipe through your cat? Or is it just gutted? I just got to get my pipe through my cat, and my exhaust is ready to be put back on (Same exhaust as you).

Heh, I work at a Best Buy in Orlando which is in a large shopping center complex. I went in to work to get my schedule for the following week. I walked out and got into my car, started it up, backed out, and got to the stop sign. I had to wait for a car to go past on the small street that runs directly in front of the store. They passed and I made my left turn onto the street. Just as I was passing the front doors a buddy of mine walked out of Best Buy so I pushed the clutch in and revved it up a little bit as a "see ya later" gesture. I get about 10 feet down the road and a guy in his late 30s with his 2 kids starts yellin "HEY BUDDY SLOW IT DOWN, ITS A *** DAMN PARKING LOT!" I almost jumped out and beat the guy senseless in front of his kids. I swear to you I was doing no more than 7 miles an hour when the speed limit is 10 in that lot and he thought I was hauling *** cuz I revved it up a little. I am just running a 2.5" catback to a series 40 Flowmaster and it's not loud at all. Some people............

I got pulled over by a bicycle cop once. I was driving over a hill in my old 2.8 5spd bird, and when i got to the other side this summertime rentacop flagged me down, and said that I was speeding because I sounded like I was going too fast. He said i was lucky, and that he would let me off with a verbal warning. He couldn't even see me over the hill. The car was bone stock with a brand new exhaust.

A lady down the street told me to slow my **** down, when i was doing an honest 15mph on a 25mph cul de sac. My car is stock exhaust minus the cat. I jammed the breaks and told her that i was doing 15, she just rolled her eyes and stormed off..I shouldve told her that her son is growing marijuana, and to leave me alone and look to her own damn household for problems.

end rant

I think that for me my 30 series w/out cat is too loud for long trips; however, I love them while I am driving around the neighborhood .

For short runs the louder the better.

(An added plus to loud exhaust is people know where you are mainly children, so if I keep it in first in residential areas I reduce the risk of having some kid run out in the road while I am on it.)
So if you are pulled over just tell the cop you are alerting pedestrians of your presance so you don't have to dodge them.

IMHO if a cop doesn't have a DB meter and a legal sound level chart the should not be alloud to give tickets for noise. the ambient noise in an area can change precieved noise level.

everytime I take the true dual side exit no muffler firebird out. The 60+ year old dude down the street breaks out the 427 Cobra replica and tries to out do me in the old "get it sideways" competition at the intersection leaving the neighborhood. Its amazing how cool some people are in my parents rich area of town. As a courtesy I do shutdown and roll home when its really late.

Well, ever since I put my cut-out right after my cat I've had a lot more said about how loud my car is. Everyone says it sounds very good, not like the damned straight piped trucks running around here. My mom claims she can hear me leaving the neighborhood, and my bestfriend's dad can hear me pulling onto the main road outside of his neighborhood.

I know it's "bad," but in my neighborhood I purposely make a lot of noise. The people that live here think they live in a $400k gated community, when really it's just your everyday middle class people living here. They constantly bitch and made it a point to make an article about my friends truck "The speed limit is 25mph. There is a red Dodge pickup truck blah blah blah." I know exactly who did it, because they yelled at us about 50 times already. I now make it a point to drop my car down into first, and bring it up to about 4k when I go by their house.

its good and its bad if ur late for curfew like i normally am which is 6am and i come home they know if im late. also cops know when im on it and they know where its at. only good thing is my neighbors which are my age have muscle cars 60s 70s and all of ours are almost all the same so we are all loud but the non car neighbors hate us when we come home in the wee hrs from the track specially with a 4200 stall trying to go up the driveway can be annoying when your trying to sleep

Why is it that Harleys can be "break your ear drums loud" and if your car is a little loud, you get a ticket????

why dont harleys get the same treatment?? Its not that I dont like Harleys, its just thats its such a double standard....

Most bikes won't get tickets. For anything. I can park my bike just about anywhere in Boston, including the sidewalk, and not get a ticket.

As for cars. I can see the retaliatory reasons. Did it myself. Works if you're subtle.

Was tuning one of my cars (parents house) about 15 years ago. They called the cops. Cops could not do a thing but 'warn' me.

About 2 hrs later when a new shift was on I called my friend over to tune his car. He happened to have a supercharged BB 2nd gen with open headers and a powerglide. Funny thing is, I never got a complaint about my car again.

My exahust system really needs an upgrade... I keep setting off car alarms, just by driving past them. Once I looked in the rearview mirror and 6 cars in a row had their alarms going off!

oops. I know it's their own fault for having dodgy alarm systems, but hey.

Do you guys in the US have noise limits? I think cars here need to be below 101dB.... must get a nosie meter to see how far over that I am.

Si.

I had my exhaust removed after the cat on my 91 for a very long time with a gutted cat, set off alarms like crazy and its louder thant he cars at the track here, well at least they have mufflers lol. But ive gone by cops before around here in so cal and no one says anything, my neighbor thought my car was supossed to be that loud lol because its a sports car. But I hate coming home late and knowing my car is that loud waking everyone up around here. I want to get the exhaust all done up with headers and magnaflows with cut outs and electric openers so I can quiet it down when I get home. Oh and I used to have my 86 trans am with just open manifolds for awhile to because my Y pipe got crushed and had to have part of it rewelded.

Never heard anything. Actually an off duty cop actually asked my what I was running and where I got my exhaust work done because he needed some work done on his blazer. Funny because I told him where and that it was a full system dual outlet with no muffler or converter. He ran down to the muffler shop and got a dual setup with no cat a few days later.

As far as complaints I'm the only one who complained. not about noise but the fact my interior was all vibrating loose.

i'm running the stock exhaust setup with not muffler and no car and i've NEVER had anyone complain about it. i live in a small town in missouri though, so nobody complains about loud exhaust, period. most farm trucks around here run either straight pipes or open headers. i'm planning on getting a true duel setup with no cats or mufflers as well.

That must be really quiet if you're running the exhaust without a car

I learned an interesting lesson about noise violations when my buddy got a ticket and his car had not been running for 5 hours.
we were vistiting a friend and the cops showed up later that day knocked on the door and gave the owner of the car a ticket. The guy that got the ticket didnt even live there and we only drove down the street one time just to get there. He wasnt doing anything stupid just driving down the street and someone called in. I suppose there is a 5 hour delay thru the dispatch. Judge said "It doesnt matter when you commited the crime as long as you did it you get ticketed for it." and "No the officer doesnt have to catch you in the act"

I have a whole lifetime of stupidity I might someday have to pay for.

Where I live....

When you show up for your day in court, you get to face your accuser. My ex-gf got a ticket for not making a complete stop at a stop sign. The cop that saw her called a cop down the road and had him give her a ticket. (My friend was a cop told me what to do)

So when we went to court, I told her to say "Im here to face my accuser and this isnt the cop that said I didnt stop, this is the one that wrote me a ticket"

The judge threw it out, because it was just like fighting a ticket and not having the cop show up at all...
