SLP 1.75" shorties into 2.5" pipes, into a 3.5" y-pipe. The intermediate pipe is 3.5" and is flanged so that I can swap from my race muffler (Borla XR1) to my street muffler (SLP TOTL, with 3.5" flange welded on). Currently it has the Borla and single 3.5" driver's side tailpipe.

Here you can see my test pipes with 2-bolt flanges for ground clearance..

And a rear shot. I welded all of this together with a Hobart MIG welder and tubing/bends from Hooker and Hedman. The y-pipe is from Flowmaster. Everything is mandrel bent and leak free, as well as modular (The tailpipe is flanged, the muffler is flanged, the overaxle pipe is flanged). If I need to drop the tank for example, the exhaust can be completely unbolted in five minutes.

I like that 2nd pic of the y-pipe. You got any cound clips of the system with the borla? Id like to hear how it sounds.

3.5"? Damn dude, you must have a pretty stout motor. How bout some specs?

Thanks. I don't have any sound clips yet. If I make any I will post them so you can hear.

As for specs, it has Trick Flow heads, a HSR, BBK 58mm TB, a fairly mild roller cam, forged bottom end, a Procharger with custom hard inlet pipe and two core intercooler, 42lb/hr SVO injectors, a 730 ECM with $58 code, etc. And a T56, Moser 12-bolt, and Fikse FM10 wheels.

Well, the car is lowered 2" or so, which doesn't help. Part of the reason I built my own exhaust was so that I could tuck it up against the underbody as much as possible. The transmission crossmember is lower than the exhaust so that scrapes first. The next lowest part is the exhaust crossover that goes below the oil pan. Before this setup I had a 3.5" bullet dumped before the rear axle, and it was just impossible to keep it from dragging. It also resonated pretty badly.

Again thats what I am planning on doing. I have a 406 and had true duals on it but wanted to lower the car. Traction will be the next issue.

Here is mine hooker 2055 y-pipe into a 40 series muffler with a 3 inch mandrel bend and a turn down. Not the prettiest setup but it sounds good and runs even better. Sounds just like a old muscle car.

I see that you had to modified the Spohn T.A., How much ground clearance do you have from floor to custom Y-Pipe.

ok, Im about done with the 3" heddman y-pipe conversion. Its harder than I thought to expand the pipe over the old y-merger, ecspecially since its on a curve. Gimme we week or so and itll be done, with pics! Single 3", no cat into 3" dynomax super turbo

Yea Its very hard to find a rust free underbody third gen up here. was it that clean when you got it? It sound good with that setup? Your ride has to handle and take corners like a champ. I had to go with the hooker shorties/y pipe to the converter free borla cat back aqnd it sounds mean even for a 305

Re: Post your SINGLE exhaust pics!

ok, now Im really bring this back from the dead!!

Im in the process of trying to find a T56 since my T5 snapped a gear on me. So once that's cone, Im going to re-route my exhaust. As is, it was rubbing the subframe on the passenger side. On top of that, the guy who installed the kit for me threw out a nice 3" MANDREL turn down and put on some crappy press bent turn down, all nice and dinged up and scraped and everything. So Im scrapping everything and starting over at the y-pipe.

SOOO, anyone got some updates, or some more pics?

MattODoom Do you have problems with your Headmans cooking your Coolant Temp. Sensor... I have a fresh 383 and headmans on my 91 Z28 and man I have to have a kevlar sleeve (made for the plug wires) wrapped around it to get a somewhat reliable temp.. still runs 250-230 F according to the gauge... but I can grab the hoses and Im not overheating

Re: Post your SINGLE exhaust pics!

good to see a thread come back to life. i finally got headers on my car and the old y pipe was in bad shape so i had 2 pipes run to my flowmaster catback from the headers. it sure made a difference in how it sounds. the best part about the whole setup is when i replaced the transmission i didn't have to remove the exhaust at all. except that stupid bracket on the trans.

Re: Post your SINGLE exhaust pics!

Hooker 2210 LT's into my own custom made y pipe, Flowmaster single 3" cat back (well the pipes anyway)...BUT with a Hooker Aero Chamber muffler. Love the sound, can't wait to hear it with the new solid lifter!

I can't say I'm entirely thrilled with it. WOT is wonderful. As is the idle. ( I may get a sound clip before I tear it all apart ).
I don't like the medium throttle acceleration note. It gets kind of raspy. Someone mentioned that it may be the single 3" from the muffler instead of the conventional duals.
I do know that the Flowmaster muffler dosen't flow nearly enough cfm to support my horsepower level. I understand that 2.2 cfm of muffler flow per engine hp is required to have no power loss from system backpressure. Maybe that has something to do with the sound.

I would assume maybe to help keep the trans temp down since the pipes are so close to the pan.

Re: Post your SINGLE exhaust pics!

Two reasons, one as spills assumed is to keep the temp down around the transmission, transmission lines and fuel lines.

The other reason is my car has to be able to pass emission testing and my catalytic converter is pretty far back in my exhaust stream so I'm hoping the wrap will retain enough heat to help the catalytic converter work properly.

91Camaro go with turn downs, tips just don't look right on 3rd gens.
