Where in-line to put exhaust cut out?

Ok so I'll be ording my McCord Power Plate/ exhaust cut-out in a week or two. I wanted to know if there is any specific distance from behind the collectors to place the cut-out. Im running SLP shorties & a 3" y-pipe out to the flowmaster. Any suggestions?

Not really. You will need to buy the cutout piping that Summit, Jegs, or other place sells if you just bought the power plate. When I purchased mine a few years back the actual piping cutout was not included. I picked up a cheap $30 or $35 price that had a wing nut plate on it and the power plate should replace it fine.

It all depends on the application some people dump before the cats, some after on the catback pipe, and some right up by the headers usually using dual cutouts.

I'm guessing you don't have inspections for emissions to worry about since you're running a carb motor.

Depending on if you have dual or single CATs that could affect your placement.
I would vote for as soon as you get room to install it and it's all on the same pipe.

heh, no inspections = no cats. I figured i would just buy a single 3" cut out to go where my cat would be (just after the actual Y-pipe, at the start of the 3" pipe going towards the rear). I just wanted to make sure that I wouldnt damage the electricles by having the power plate to close to the headers.

Depends on your driving style

there is an article in this message catagory about backpressure. If you are using the car for racing and want to have the max torque in the 5000 RPM range then put the cut-out around the location of the stock cat, either before or after. If you want a different power band, then you have to take measurements and find out the proper length of the exhaust in relation to the cut-out location. read the article if you have more questions. it was helpful to me.
