how much power are manifolds costing me

Hi guys, I have an 82 z28. I put a mild 350 in it last year. The 350 has 10:1 compression, a comp cams magnum 270h cam, performer intake and a q-jet carb. I really dont have idea of how much power it is making.

Currently I'm running the stock log manifolds through the original y-pipe to a
3" flowmaster cat back system. I'm using a 2.5" catco cat between the y-pipe and the 3" cat back system...

At the local u-pull it I picked up a set of log manifolds and y-pipe from a later model TPI motor. The outlets on the manifolds are bigger, and so is the y-pipe...

The thing is, I really don't like headers. Sure they are great for performance, but I really like my engine compartment neat and clean looking. In the past, I've always cursed at the headers I've owned for burning the plug wires, or the PITA it is to get to the starter, oil filter etc. I also dont like how they almost instantly begin to rust... with a 7 week old baby, getting headers jet-hot coated is out of the question for now...

I may eventually give in and put a set of shorty headers on, but my question really is, how much of difference will I notice in power over the bigger tpi/l69 style manifolds with my set-up

The car is mostly used for weekend cruising, haven't been to the strip in years, but it's not out of the question

Thank You

i really like the hooker 2460.. i her there not the best.. but tehre really good becuase they are like 350 bucks at summit... anywho get them Ceramic coated and no rust... plus they look good.. and a trick for the brunt wires.. buy some heat tape.. worked good my my dads mustang...piece of poo..haha anywho if you put maybe 2 or 3 strips of that tape on the bottem and wrap the ends of the plug wires you should be ok... also get those plug wire holders. they just clip in somewhere under the hood and will keep the wires from touching.. i did taht with my dads 66 stang and so far so good... plus you will get more power out of them.. no i have no idea how much... i would guess it would be somewheres between 20-30 hp to the wheels with the engine you got.. but you should go with those.. $350, shorties...great investment i think.. i bet il get those on my car when i get the cash

Those stocker manifolds are robbing you quite a bit.. Get some header Wrap for the headers you choose to keep the Engine bay looking decent.. Heck the manifolds you got on there now are a bit rusty arent they?

Let me put it this way, when i bought my camaro, the guy who sold it to me indicated i needed new headers because i had old flowtechs and as you must all know, flowtechs are the junkiest headers you can get with 2.5 inch collectors. I told him i could go to a scrap yard to get a temp manifold for a couple years. He almsot lost it. He swore on his mom's head that the headers with 1.5 inch duals was one of the first mods he made to the engine and at the time it boosted his hp from 263 to 302 (not sure about torque). I'll always remember that because it was my first lesson in understanding exhaust systems. But now i have hooker 2460's with 2.5 inch duals and cutouts... hehe...wicked.

Oh and... there a many ways to keep your engine organized with headers, use tie straps or plug holders for your wires. If anything, I find headers make a car look a lot cleaner and organized

On my pretty much stock car I gained about 0.3 tenths and 2mph in the 1/4 mile switching over to slp 1 3/4" shortys.
