Factory style exhaust without emissions?

I am looking to put on headers, performance y pipe, and performance exhaust all the way beck on my 87 formula. I would like to put headers on but I would like something that bolts right up to a factory style performance y pipe, and It would be really nice if these headers had nice access to the spark plugs if at all possible. Secondly, what is a good performace y pipe that is good for the money? And lastly, is there a bigger sized mid pipe that goes right back to the factory muffler location? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Bret

What you ask isn't as difficult as you're making it sound.

The key to the right answer is, "86-90 TPI single cat". Look for stuff made for that application.

Start with Hooker 2055HKR headers, for instance. They include the y-pipe (the best one available for our cars) and have the O2 sensor fitting your car needs to run properly. They also include the A.I.R. tubes, and this is the only hitch in this deal - the driver's side check valve mount faces to the rear of the car, just like '86-'90 TPI single cat cars did from the factory. You can either cut the tubes off from that side and have them welded back on facing forward so your stock A.I.R. hoses hook up to it, or you can use elbow fittings to get the check valve to face forward (getting the hose to go around the back side of the engine is a little more difficult, believe it or not).

Then get the rest of the exhaust for the same '86-'90 TPI single cat application. Such as a Catco 9118 direct-fit cat - it has a 3" slip-fit inlet so it slips right on the 2055HKR y-pipe outlet, and bolts to a 3" cat-back. That just leaves the cat-back - your choice of aftermarket system for that application will be 3" I-pipe.

And you're ready to roll. It will all bolt in.

Re: Factory style exhaust without emissions?

Does anybody make a stock y-pipe without the provision for that stupid emission valve on the passenger side between the factory manifold and the pipe flange that when closed is supposed to help the engine warm up faster by closing off the escape of the hot exhaust gas. I want one that has the factory flange to bolt up to a stock exhaust manifold without that gap.

Nobody makes headers to fit the stock y-pipe. They only make headers to fit their own y-pipe, or you make your own custom y-pipe.
If you buy headers for TPI engines, like the Hooker 2055's suggested by five7kid, they will not use that EFE valve on the passenger side.
