Couple of exhaust questions...

Hi guys,

I'm making some modifications to my exhaust, and I have two things that are stumping me a bit....

I'm gonna have a 90 degree bend at the end, so the pipes will exit the side of the car, and I have two concerns with that.

I don't want all kinds of heat going to the rocker, so I was gonna add an aluminum heat shield. I'm not sure the best way to design one though....

Number one I'm concerned about vibration. Exhausts are typically suspended with rubber hangers, or at least part of it is rubber, to allow a suspension. I'm not sure if I'm going to go with a round, or square exhaust tip yet, I'm leaning towards square to fit the body contour a bit better, but anyways, the point being if I surround the tip with aluminum to act as a shield, how do I keep the tip from flexing and rattling, and if I do hold it in place there, will that cause problems with it not being able to flex?

The second part is of course the best way to design a shield that will disperse heat, and not transfer all the heat to the rocker....

Unfortunately the best example of what I'm trying to accomplish I've only seen on a toy.....

I'll post a pic..

In most cases the heat shield is just riveted to the body of the car around the exhaust opening
