a search would reveal that YES it has been done before, both poorly and well. it is somwhat popular with the Kitt replica crowd. in fact, one replica company "mark's custom Kitts" does many such "chop and swap"s. you can check out how they do it HERE: T-Top Conversions

good luck. if you screw it up your car is ruined.

EDIT* in fact a search is not even neccisary, it is only about 20 topics down ON THIS SAME PAGE

It really shouldn't be all that difficult. Alot of measuring and prepping.
Tack welding support bars and other minor things shouldnt take you longer than a weekend to finish.. Wish you luck anyways.

Ya that's where it's getting done. I'm curious why you didn't like your car after though.

There's a guy here at the shop that's been bugging me to let him do a T-top coversion on my '88 for the longest time. He's done it before many times with fantastic results (you would never know it had the top, chopped) but I happen to like having a HardTop at the moment.

He has an entire t-top assembly (including, mint tops) he took off an '87 and it's sitting there in the show room waiting for someone who wants to do a conversion.

Problem is, we're located in Toronto, so that may be a bit far for you. You'd be looking at about $1500 total to get the job done, including paint.

Check out Ragtops.ca if you want to contact them. Ask for Gus.

Yeah that's a little far for me. I already have a donor car anyhow. Thats a really good price though.

....It was my girls car...and I just like hard tops..too many issues with leaky tops(bad outer seals on the tops them selves...wind noise ....the anoying creeks when hit bumps etc.....If you like t-tops go for it...but it is easier just to get a t-top car.....spent way too much converting her hardtop v-6 to a t-top v-8 trans am....

I have in my possession an 86 TA with C&C t-tops. I can cut and ship the entire roof for a conversion if anybody is interested?
