Custom Fabbed Rims?

Cost and money aside, does ANYBODY know someone who can custom fab rims from any design to any size and width? Example: I give him/her the design and dimensions, they in turn, take that info and make 4 rims anyway that I want them.

Thanks,
- IROC-Z Racing

Re: Custom Fabbed Rims?

Any machine shop will gladly do it

If you are looking for custom cast or forged, youll be a little more hard pressed for a small run like that

Re: Custom Fabbed Rims?

There are a few companies in asia that make cast aluminum wheels. I used to work for a company called Wheel Design Group, and they had a designer draft all the wheels in cad. Then the companies would make them and ship them over in containers.

However, you would need to have a company, a large # required, and a tolerance for very low quality. We had a whole container of rims come in out-of-round once. No return policy when you deal with chinese that make $.02 an hour, they all went to the scrapper.

Why dont you contact a big wheel manufacturer? Theres also peolple that modify rims, to make them wider. They could probably do it for you, or know someone who does.

Re: Custom Fabbed Rims?

Widening a steel wheel is easy. Having custom aluminum wheels made can be a little expensive. Estimate at least $2000 per wheel for one of a kind billet wheels.

With so many choices on the market, why bother having a set custom made. If you're building a one of a kind show car then price really isn't an option and many manufacturers will gladly take your money.

Fikse Wheels

http://www.fikse.com/

They're about 45 minutes from here and do custom wheels all the time. Nice thing is they'll give you a copy of they're dimension files for whatever program they use in case you bust one and have to have it remade.

Re: Custom Fabbed Rims?

Any CNC machine shop could make one, but you'd better have deep wallets. By the time you machine out the unwanted material, you'd be machining 60% of the material...at least 60%!

Most rims are cast centers on pre-fabbed hoops, because of that.

I was going to make my own, when I ran CNC machines. I don't remember the cost, but even with it only costing me material, there was no way I was going to do it. I coulda set up an empty machine that wasn't being used that day, and make a wheel. Ecen with free machine time, it was crazy $$$$. And I woulda only had to pass for the material!

I did make me a pinewood derby car outta aluminum for the body & wheels, roller bearing for the wheels, and some Delrin for the tires.

Re: Custom Fabbed Rims?

nice with the pinwood derby car, but I don't think it would be considered a "pinewood" car being that it was made out of aluminum. Cool idea though.

Yeah I knew it would be quite expensive to cast my own rims, I was just wondering if anybody knew of someone or some company. What about take an 8" wide rim and making it about a 9"? Looking at OEM Replica IROC 2-Line rims that are 8" wide, but I prefer 9" to get about a 255-275 wide tire.

Re: Custom Fabbed Rims?

LOTS of places widen wheels. That's common.

For the "pinewood" derby car, the autocross club I was in does it a race every year, with several classes. From pine to As-Long-As-It-Insn't-Powered/Propelled. Mine was the 1lb max, anything-else-goes-but-power class. Even had one guy hollow his out, and put some kind of bearings thayt rolled inside, to provide more weight forward to get it going downhill, then then moved rearward. once it leveled out at the bottom!

Re: Custom Fabbed Rims?

Here it is...T6-6061 aluminum I used a spare piece, so the dimensions aren't anywhere close. Just had to fit it in the block I had to use.

Re: Custom Fabbed Rims?

Try CCW, Completely Custom Wheels, they cut the wheels for my Datsun and I like them quite a bit expect to pay between $1600-$2000 for each wheel though. Or try Diamond Racing Wheels they will make a wheel in any size you want but you can only get stock car style wheels from them so don't expect anything pretty

Re: Custom Fabbed Rims?

nice, nice! love the derby car stephen. great on the "craftsmanship". looks awsome!!!

I found a set of rims that I really like, but they're only 8" wide. I am thinking, now, about just buying those rims and having someone add onto them to make them wider. A little less expensive that way!!! thanks guys.

Re: Custom Fabbed Rims?

I've had my Jag rims widened from 17X8 to 17X9 by these guys. Beautiful workmanship and run true. They both balanced with less tha 3/4 oz of weight. www.weldcraftwheels.com Go to their website and have a look. They can narrow or widen aluminum and steel wheels.
