Re: fabbing in ttops

Ive seen this done on other cars to swap in moon roofs. Some turn out nice, most doing. What you have to do is find a ttop car, cut out the roof around the ttop stuff (easiest to do almost the entire roof) then cut yours out swap and weld. If you're patient and meticulous no one will be able to tell the difference

Re: fabbing in ttops

anything is possible with deep enough pockets . you could more than likely buy 2 T top 3rd gens for the cost of properly converting your's . my thoughts are to shop for a T top car & trade/sell yours . i have had a couple of both . on a warm clear summer day , nothing like a T top car . on a cold rainy fall day , nothing like a T top car ( not good ) . just my thoughts , what ever you decide good luck .

Re: fabbing in ttops

One member her swapped his hardtop to T-top, then swapped it again into a convertible.

Grind the factory paint down to reveal the factory seams, then make your cuts by splitting open the factory stuff, then make your transplants at those points

Obviously this won't work if you use an aftermarket T-top bcar, but gives you a good starting point to do it successfully.

Re: fabbing in ttops

thanks guys i was just thinking about doing this i was trying to find out how much work it would be and for what it would cost or how many hours it would take me to do it i will just stay with the hard top. the camaro is a DD and i have heard that the ttops could cause integrity issues in the right circumstances. thanks for the info

Re: fabbing in ttops

I can't seem to find the thread but there was a member who did this. He basically took the whole roof from the t-top and transplanted it over removing everything from the spot welds and seems so it went back together like factory.

That's the proper way to do it.

I found them, just had to look through my Bookmarks......
https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/body...-top-roof.html

And a Hardtop -> T-top -> Convertible -> Parts car
