And YUP TGO...has gotten the full build in detail...still haven't gotten an answer on a decal.. but I'll def get one on as soon as I do and give some support back to TGO.

i spoke with negativity at the beginning of this thread, and after checking back in on progress..... i have to say you are one extremely talented person. the fiberglass work looks to be fantastic, and the paint you do is even better.

whether the car fits my taste im still not sure, but i am very very impressed with what you have done. you should be very proud!

Hey man, thank you.
I really appreciate the acknowledgement!
I've learned a lot in this experience and still dare not to claim myself as a body or composite guy.
Truely learned a massive amount of respect for those who do it!
Paint is work...but fun work, body work... is work! Lol, especially a year + of it...lol...

Hopefully ya check back at the end of the week....
Trying to get a nice video up!

Thanks again

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build

My hat is off to you. To paint the car a solid color after all the body work would have been a crime. You have a wonderful talent and imagination. I have followed this post for a while, and had not commented. I kinda doubted some of the body mods, but can always appreciate the work put into a job. I am glad you stuck to you goals and vision. That is what makes the car yours and not what someone else thinks it should be.

The theme ties into the body mods and complement each other. No it is not going to be to everyone's taste, but you did not do it to satisfy everyone else.

Mad props to you and your work. I will hopefully be in Charleston the week of Memorial Day, or first week of June. Maybe I will see the WarBird out.

congrats.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build

Back when this car was just primer I'd give the pictures a quick look and acknowledge the progress. Now that the paint is on I'm sitting here like "This is a freakin art piece. I wanna see more!" I'm sure there are other people that want to see some good shots outside the garage as bad as I do. Were sitting here waiting eagerly for when you do.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build

This car has so much going for it right now. I willing to bet you could tow this thing as a roller to a car meet and still turn heads. Everything on the exterior just seems right to me. Those T/A wheels that are on it look good. (Then again I'm a sucker for those mulit-spoke wheels.) As for the interior a nice set of seats would do and it would not have to be that perfect as the exterior gives off that weathered look. You could easily drop in an old school SBC Chevy motor for decent street performance if your not going to track this car too much. Jeez...look at me giving suggestions. I'll be waiting for when you start the interior and engine phase.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build

Suggestions...lol...I love them.

But agree, interior and drivevtain will start in a few weeks.
So far the only idea I have on interior, is the seats I want to do with old worn brown leather...like an old fighter jacket...lol...
Drive train...I also am looking to keep basic and forward.
Nice SBC carb set up for now...maybe later in life get something better but I think that keeping it simple to get to par and then work on upgraded is best for me...skill...time...money...and so on.

The motor side is a week spot for me....so hopefully I'll earn some help by then too.

If I could have a wish list...
400 stroker motor...ahhhh...love em...lol

As for rims...guess until I find a set thatll work with the car (still like an 1"-1.5" of tire in the back) I'll clean up and paint rims...just gotta get a decent set of tires first.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build

Your car is coming along very well, I think the right set of wheels will set the car off. I do like the stock wheels but they aren't the right size in my opinion, You need something to fill those wheel wells,
As for your video, I think that it would be a better video if you showed it actually moving. If its not running maybe do it somewhere else than in your drive way and step back when taking the video to capture a better view of what your talking about.
If you have video editing you may want to put in some still photo's in there of the before and after shots of the car. like the side shot of the old and then the new then front, rear and so on.
But that's just my opinion.

1. Garage...driveway...ect, between me and you...really hate it and have had to block from my mind...I'm always looking at the background of the stupid thing here or there and imagine in my mind...the RJ who also notices it and goes....that's stupid...lmao

2. Better video...honestly..was a massive feat to even do this one. Lol...and editing...no...
But, it is something I thought of as well afterwards and really would like to take the time to do better and even with some of your suggestions....make the video cool too, ya know.
So I will definitely make a goal to improve on for the final and complete product.
3.
Rims....rims....rims...rims....
This is gonna be bigger of a thing then I first thought...but completely agree. The 4th gen rear helped big time but...still need a 1-1.5" of rim and tire (for me to be happy) this comes into the offset issue...and styling features...simply put...gotta find a good set to fit right.
In meantime...cause the brims and tires just stood out like dirty fingernails in video...gotta get cleaned up and looking presentable.

Lol....
So I do agree...a lot still to do...but all do able.
And thank you for the thoughts and suggestions!
sincerely

Blacktopking. Amazing job man!!!!!!! Your paint job is absolutely stunning, and amazing the fact that you did it in your garage! One question for you, is there a reason why you only put the tail number on one side of the roof?
When you started I was doubtful on how the wide body would look since I haven't seen a kit to fit my tastes yet. Now you can chalk me up in the "love it" category. Can't wait to see the final product.

Well thanks JohnnyT/A and I am heading the calling !
I think I'll move the rims up on the list and will start officially look and searching for a set that could work.
I'd like at least 10" rims in the back...

So hunt is on and if I find something I'll post up of course if anyone else comes across something let me know! I appreciate it!

Thanks again

Thanks man, welcome to the darkside...lol
Roof? Well ideally the spoiler or upper rear quarter would be more suiting but considering this is a background and I haven't fully laided out or really finalized the mural. I felt the roof (which needed something ahd didn't want too solid) would work well and keep a racey style or feel as the rollcall would imply. I still could add it else were, but am gonna hold off till the end.

Infact the more you think about this, the theme idea alone, are huge...there is so much you could do with this...so its hard to say ye or ne sometimes.

Body!
Honestly. ?.and truely honest. This topic is touchy and very hard to create. As I once mentioned in the very beginning.....trying to design tge car to not only be fully customized so any thirdgen guy could pic out something in everything....yet still stay enough of a trans am so that any guy could call it so miles away....hard.

After the paint...I actually was very happy with the outcome, because I do think I did well that wag. In pics of tge car in primer...certain things like side vents just jumped at me....made me nervous that way...yet once in paint and you'll see in video...as you walk it, it blends in so well...

So little things like that made me feel really proud.

So hopefully I can keep the flow threw out the rest of the car.

Not much to really show this will be it for a few days.
But I really wanted to get the mid coat +/inner clear coat on to save and protect the background as it is.

Plus it'll give me a new surface to work on.

Few pics, not perfect but damn close and it also give an idea of how the dry effects look under clear.

Thinking also in stead of massive novels as I like to write...I'll just outline a list as I go...lol...maybe easier to read.

Remove tape
Push car out +/wash and wetsand
Clean and reorganize garage
Set car back up and Tape off
(Won't have to do more then glass since I'm done spraying color-all airbrush now. That and it'll save me some plastic for when I actually go to clear)

Phew...

Clocking out 1267hr

(Writes it on sections of tape and sticks them to the rear window of car.)
Funny I remember that detail from earlier on in the build. It was a rather unique idea that I have not seen done with other builds in progress. Probably easier to have it there on the car rather than on a loose sheet of paper.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build

So you are going to try and have it at Atlantic Bike Week on Memorial Day?

I hopefully will be arriving in Myrtle Beach on Memorial Day.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build

Well as of today,
Bike week 8-18th
Speedway called said they were gonna looking at thier opening and where gonna see if they could set me up.
But that was Friday
Jamming Leathers said def yes, but only had 8spots open and needed it lock in asap.
I was gonna give the speedway a day or so more before making the choice but I really feel like the yes could slip under me if I don't act soon.
Jamming Leathers has a 20'x20' and from 12-18th of May.

For Atlantic Bike /BlackBikeWeek is big for street bikes and i def want to go to this, Memorial day, north myrtle beach drag way is whom I am aiming for that week end but am open to all as well.

So...hopefully and if willing I'll will be in Myrtle at both!
And will post details when I get them...in which case, def come see me and say hi...check out car...I'll have some cool give always for everyone!

FBody Bash...in Myrtle Oct...idk...heard mix about it...so maybe.

3rdGenFest in Atlanta...well I should have a complete car by then, exterior +/interior and drive line to make the ride down...actually would love to set something up with anyone else driving down off the east coast... be an awesome cruise...

"Not much to really show this will be it for a few days"?

I just painted my car gloss black, and was pretty proud of it until I saw this!! In your garage?

Having a learned skill is impressive, your work ethic is yet more impressive, but you have an artistic talent that very few people could ever hope for. Kudos!

But you have now raised the bar on the exterior, you will need to build an engine to back up the swagger! There is a ton on info on this site and a lot of people who would be willing to help put some firepower in that Firebird!

Lmao, yeah few days...I had already anticipated with work and all that I wouldn't have much time for car. Plus the weekend was pretty much set aside to tear down and empty the garage. As empty as I can....moving most of it into the little portable garage (supply/ stock crap).. but had to spray the mid coat on car first....get out...make some plastic selves in the portable... empty the other... get car back in...back up and taped off...while out

I wetsanded the mid coat flat to 1000g and washed clean.

Pain to do things like this, but my poor lil garage has to play the role of many...lol

Thank you for the extremely nice words and complement!
I appreciate and value it very much.

As for a little power aspect to back up the "swagger"...lol...yeah...I've already begun to think of such...lol...

I almost have too!

What?! That is a different question.
For now, getting it running to par is the goal.
And I surely will be coming to ThirdGen.Org for advice and education.

Again thank you for the reply.

I'll be sure to post a little teaser, but am looking to start second stage (1/2 of paint) +/mural this week !

Finally found a source for custom emblems and this is the first designs I like to work off.
Just gotta pick the best one for the car.
Thought this little touch will make it look far more professional then painting a logo...plus...this way "this logo" isn't permanent.

Anythoughts

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build

Update:
Is small and time has been short but...I've finally gotten everything together needed in order to move forward.

Locating actual images and photos if what I have been seeing in my mind has been a challenge of its own...so...this will be a mix of actual photo and non actual photo...hopefully it all works out.

To Do List:

Spoiler (under side) since its so viewable when hatch is open
airborne logo w/skull in center and I will use two different navel flag layouts to match the paddles of the spoiler.

B-Pilars
Pass Side- I will use the fighting chicken logo I drew earlier in thread (with changes)
DriverSide- I've created another logo with a bomb character holding a PinUp Girl.
Both will reference " 3rd Gen F-Bomber Squadron"

Think its the best play on words to fit our cars and love into a fighter jet theme....or at least I think its crafty...lol...so getting TShirts made with it...lol

This and I've decided I will out line the star with a black line to improved AF logo.

This will bring me to mural....

So hopefully above is completed this weekend in between work....

Thanks

Jesus man this thing is bad *** I just read all 13 pages. Can't wait to see what you do with the interior and that tpi intake.... You are going for the fighter jet look I'm just saying a twin turbo setup with the intake fins exposed at shows would look awesome... could always leave it so you can throw cone filters on for street use.

Thanks man
I too especially excited to do the interior, I've begun to sketch out and really think on it recently and I think the avenues of form and function are just wide open...so its really what every you can image.
Drive train has also been turning up a lot in conversation and mainly as mentioned here....car could end up so "fast" looking to not have something to back up would be sad....as far what...unsure...but twin turbos...well...that's a killer idea...lol

Interior I should start maybe June...and drive train maybe this winter...really wanna go to 3rdgen fest so unless something pops up...don't really want to not have running car then.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build

So I started the mural today...officially...and figured since 3rdgen has gotten all the progress why keep this part to myself.
So with that being said...I'm show the mural step by step.
But first let me say, artisticly there are a lot if different ways to do this, this is just mine and a lot may not really come to life til the end.

I airbrush like I draw (self taught so probably habit) so I'll start with an outline and kinda literally sketch it in and then build up from that. As in the background, a lot of what I like to do is layering...for me and my style...just like it best.

With that being said.
I started the passenger side first. The ideal is to create a story that will be show as both sides of the story...
1. Veterans of war
2. Veterans of home ( this to show that the service is deeper then war and that the men and women of arms are also...father's mothers brothers and sisters, sect.

So I will focus the pass as "war" side...I'll incorporate a time period that will reflect veterans of past and modern generations (little tricky) but something that can relate.
This will progressively travel from pass star towards rear of car.
Drive side, I will attempt to focus on the "home" side...non war and more honorary in its presentation.

I've spent a lot if time trying to piece things together as well as create some original pieces in order to blend and transition the idea.

I really hope if not threw the art, then compostion achieve this goal.

So with that being said...live laid about about 3hrs a night this week to work on pass side hopefully by weekend...the overall concept is layout and ruffed in.

Thanks for following, viewing and most of all the encouragement...think I'd scared myself out of this a lot time ago if it wasn't for so many positive and supportive comments.

Thank you

This is a what I got started today...basicaly its the start of the pass side. And kinda started with the figures I knew I wanted fist...sketching in reduce white +/reduce grey as a light median first.
Guess..its a way to ruff in and start placing things with out a major commitment as well as giving you a place to work off to build in details later.

Re: BlackTopKing's "Concrete Angel" Build

Thanks man.
I'm a little nervous to show this much, like I said...its usually a sketchy layout and takes me a little time to really dig in and get it as I see it in my mind.
Always worried someone will see the raw version and be like...."WTF is that"...too soon.

Not that it couldn't look that way when done...just one of those things...you don't show until confident in...

But for you guys...shoot, done seen it all! So why not...kinda exciting and fun for me to show.

Ha not likely man. I wasn't with you on the widebody setup at first but was interesting in watching the skill involved in the body work.... Then you started doing paint.... I'm hooked. You got me thinking of doing something similar with mine now... but think more modern stealth jet and evil. I might sense a project "Black Top Demon" coming on :P No worries about a rip off though man my skills are not even in the same ballpark as yours.

Lmao...dude, I love this whole post! Lol
Can't rip anything off...I love the idea so much I want in! Lol
Stealth style huh....just saying I still have some of that are paint, they say it absorbes and deflects radar...I'm just saying, I'm during to see if it works on a trooper application.

But thank you and no matter what, I love 3rdGens with a passion and one reason why is because they are so much fun! Things have gotten boring in ways, so if I could inside in the tiniest way for someone to have fun, build and create something, big or small and just make their 3rdGen Thiers...I would be extremely happy and the WarBird did one of its two goals.

Skills, its an art of its own and I'm learning a lot with ya...defiantly the biggest I've ever done.
