Firebird home made CAI

Has anybody successfully added a Camaro TPI air filter/housing under a stock 'bird hood? Or to the vents in the leading edge of an 85-92 T/A hood? I know there's little to no space but ask this anyway due to the very limited choices in ram air hoods for 'birds and the apparent lousy quality of most of them. If any one has done this, pics and a quick write up would be great. Thanks.

Re: Firebird home made CAI

At one point I did have the 350 TPI with a March Mustang CAI scoop mounted under the passenger side front bumper then piped up to the regular canister style air filter with a rubber reduction clamp connecting the hose onto the canister. According to the G Tech Pro back to back testing show'd approximately 0.2 second difference on the street with street tires in the 1/4 mile. It was pretty shady looking as I used just used the cheap metal flex style dryer hose and a rubber fitting with regular hose clamps to the canister that I cut off the rounded flange horn with a hack saw so the fitting went on snug.

i think it may be possible if you trim some of the supporting off of the hood. ive always thought about doing the same thing but ive never been able to find the snorkel set up in my junkyards.

Re: Firebird home made CAI

Not without some work. The nose on the birds slopes down more at the front than a Camaro. The main problem area is where the core support and hood meet up, its really tight in there. A 3 in. cold air intake that goes off the either side of the engine bay would work the same or better with a lot less work.
