It was at the Sema show at the chevy booth. The crate engine was cool but the body work was not very good.

Agreed, the build quality was very poor. Some of the fabrication work was decent, but overall not worthy of that engine. It would appear that they had cut themselves short on time to make the deadline. While I'm here, were are you on the Camaro manual shift plate/cup holders project?

Re: Hoonigan builds a thidgen for Chevrolet performance!!!

I liked the concept drawing that GM came up with, at least in "concept". Can't comment on the execution. I did watch the videos and sweet jebus they're hard to watch. Like I bunch of toddlers doin' dumb stuff in a garage. I mean seriously the videos were an utter waste of time if you actually like "cars".

Yeah, the videos are tough to watch. Constant interruptions with memes and video game sounds does make it seem juvenile.

Hoping to be able to have the available by the end of the month but pushing for the end of next week. Just waiting on some hardware and other supplies to come so I can make some final tweaks and complete the part.

Re: Hoonigan builds a thidgen for Chevrolet performance!!!

I just hung-up the Phone with the Lead Engineer (for GMPP/ Chevrolet Performance Parts), and Director (for GMPP/ Chevrolet Performance Parts)...
I let them know that the Engine and Car that they provided to Hoonigan received horrible marketing via Hoonigan-YouTube.

The Videos were more about the Hoonigan Employees jacking-around, than the Engine or Car Build.
GM did not care...
They were just happy that the Car actually made it to SEMA with the Engine in the Car.

Wow ya'll are really critical. I thought it was entertaining, and of course its Hooligan so there is going to be a storyline of having fun making things.

I've never watched their videos before, but I can appreciate what they did with the swap.

When I saw those spindles they were using after just grinding mine for 2 hours last weekend I was very jealous, and stupefied that I hadnt found those in my google searches.

Did you really expect the GM Execs thought Hoonigan would do an in-depth build video? Thats not what they do. Why would GM Care really, unless Hoonigan does something they didn't anticipate. From GM's point of view, any video Hoonigan did had a chance for up to 4.6 MILLION clicks. And in the time the 4 video's have been up, they have over 2.5 million views. To GM that's a free win cause all it really cost them was probably 20-30 hours for a few designers, the internal cost of the new BB 632 engine, and a 30+ year old developmental car. Probably one of the cheapest ad campaigns they've ever had to pay for.

Also, while I'm not exactly happy about the livery, and no hood giant intake option. I know why they did it, because that's what the young public expects a Thirdgen to look like. Left overs of the 70's muscle car era. I'd have preferred some kind of intake that they could fit under the stock hood, or a small cowl if needed for clearance.

That said, aside from the livery, I do like the ground effects package on that car alot.

I agree.

However as someone that dealt with GM Corporate nonsense for many years...
It angers me that GM will spend any amount of money to sell something.
But when it comes time to repair something, they do not want to spend two cents to do so.

Just to give anyone who might be interested a heads up on this camaro's custom aero parts I have already made contact with them and they are still in the talking phase/planning if they will produce parts for the public.

They also responded very fast to me and reached out to me a second time asking which parts I would be interested in. You can check them out at www.streetfighterla.com

Re: Hoonigan builds a thidgen for Chevrolet performance!!!

yes the Cutting up of the car. and the short cuts taken. are hard to watch..(like all the heat crap slapped to the fire wall). but the colors are good.the body kit is cool. (most of it). not bad for slapping it together in what a month? the hood in the cad pics looks sweet.. but they need to work on the Air cleaner.. I just so happen to be in talks with Green Filters. on making a filter for my drop base..have been for the last 3 weeks. its in the works..hope to see it before Feb.

Below
now this is what I have in the works with Green filters...BUT. fitting over the TB/bodys. and dropping down 4" so a cowl hood will fit. NOTE: this filter in a K&N unit. and runs $500+ bucks..(carbon fiber) frame work.

see if I can dig up the shots of the back.. I was focused ON the eng bay Shenanigans...

You aren't the market for those videos. Sadly yes, attention span has gotten shorter.

Re: Hoonigan builds a thidgen for Chevrolet performance!!!

I really like the NEW Cylinder-Head design that is being used on that 632 BBC.
The design is a mixture of Mark/ Gen-IV BBC Heads with LS3/ LS7 style Intake-Port arrangement.

The last production 8.1L Gen-VI BBC also had a similar LS2 style Intake-Port arrangement.

If any of you guys that read this, do any Porting for work or as a hobby...
It is so nice when all 8 Cylinders use identical Chambers and Ports.
Design one Cylinder, and repeat 7 Times.

With the Mark/ Gen IV BBC and Gen-V BBC... all of the Porting is different from Cylinder to Cylinder.
Pain in the ***!

ABOUT HALF OF THE CARS at SEMA have welds that you would roll your eyes at..and the under sides look a bit rough.. been to about 20 SEMA show over the years..paint jobs on some of the cars look like they are done outside in a wind storm..but there are alot of cars that ya wonder is they even drive they are so clean.. most of the cool hot rod street driven cars will be out side..around the place..ya want to see cool stuff. look close at some of the cars just inside the building. its fun to look close at some of the true street car..the detail on some are out of this world. so yes a home built car has been in /at SEMA.

check out the hood

while it is nice that they feature a third gen, it would also be nice if they could get some of the basics right... the caster/camber re-enforcement plate is supposed to be under the tower!

A few people and Now even hoonigan. Do not bother to read instructions.. Like the father on Christmas Eve putting together a bicycle..lol.. Yes the reinforcing plate goes underneath the tower to sandwich The strut tower..I used Sphons Plate.to go with Founders parts.had to add longer bolts. For Fitment..

I get that, im just saying concept vs reality is typically escaped by studio and concept drawings, by besides that the hoonigan execution i dont think did the concept drawing any justice, which, being on the design engineering side of GM im used to however this is a world of aftermarket, The final product could have been tons better if it followed with the design more thoroughly.

agreed would have been cool to do that, finished interior would have been nice, and personally I think the wheels on the actual car are horrid, if they went with a thinner multispoke like the drawing I imagine it would look tons better. other than that some of the lines on the front end have just sorta faded into nothing on the actual car, where they are pronounced in the concept and im struggling to get over the improper install of the strut mounts.

Yeah I don't know if installation instructions came with them.. I'm thinking.. Not.

Guess I just need a sponsor
I've been getting that impression from a lot of builds recently. SEMA builds used to be these impressive no-holds-barred builds that most didn't even imagine possible, and now it seems like the majority that we see are either "so what, who wants that?" or they are slapped together half-assed in a few weeks.

about 2% of the cars at SEMA are cars built for guys who Have more money then skills. and the cars go to SEMA to show off the work..Look close..if you ever go..some thing are cool others not so much..

watching a crew rip apart a car with a sawzall. and then bolting together parts wrong...makes us go WTF. but hay..its all in the name of the Game..

While I'm not a fan of hacking up any 3rd gen that's still in reasonably good condition, and don't generally like some of the cartoonish builds often seen at SEMA, I'll admit that this one
Hoonigan builds a thidgen for Chevrolet performance!!!-66mndp4.png

at least looks better than that CARCASS POS posted in this forum a few weeks back.

But that's not saying much.
