would the ss hood have enough room to have an air cleaner under it, like the cowl hood? i need clearence for an air cleaner and i was wondering if it has the functionality of the cowl.
SS looks like import overkill, the cowl hood looks a lot smoother and sophisticated. Both are good for power, but if you have the SS set-up for a ram-air system, that would be better. don't have fake intakes on anything.
Isn't there a Ram Air hood out there as well? If performance is the key, thats is what you need. Thats the only reason why WS-6's where faster in the quarter than the SS's. I do like the stinger hood also. I know my camaro would like any of the hoods better than the stock one thats on it now!!!

yeah i agree, i have a 4'' cowl hood on my car, and i always see more of the SS hoods on third gens then any cowl hoods in my town, i think it just doesnt fit the car right, it wasnt fit for the body line, it doesnt look terrible i just prefer the smooth cowl not knowing if theres a big block, supercharger, or v6 under it
I like the SS hood, but I cant stand the big "V" look... it looks so crapy, even on the 97 SS. They changed it for a reason. It needs to follow the 98+ SS and curve back in...
I'm a fan of anything with a bowtie(or an arrowhead) that can make a Honda Civic wish it was still in Japan. I really like the 4th gen Ram Air hoods for our cars, but I guess if I had to pick one it would be the cowl. The smoothness is unsurpassable (if that's a word!).

S#$% I had no idea the scoop on that thing that thing was that freakin big. Finally someone has picks of one for everyone to see. The front isn't open at all? That's wierd, I thought it was just supposed to be a SS hood for 'birds. Do you plan on opening it or leaving it that way?
Hey 87TPI, that box you made for your car was awesome. Was it difficult to make? I think it's a cool idea, because it looks so flush. I bet that thing does pound.

I actually had it made. It's fiberglass. It would have been more flush but the magnets on my subs are so big they had to raise it alittle.I can set off alarms from about 30 feet away just driving down the street,it's awsome.
87TPI, it's me again. I can't get over that box man. I was wondering, where did you get it built and how much was it? Maybe one day I can get that in my car. Also, did you make the little cover that folds over them or what? 'Cause that's a really cool idea. Thanks man, and keep that T/A lookin' good!

i would have to say i like the jongbloed cowl the best esp for the carb tbi cars as bottom is still flat with airfilter hole cut for real cold air setup
Unless your engine is carbed or TBI There isn't much performance to be gained from either.
Now if the EFI solutions could be turned around a cowl hood might be worth investigating.
I suppose running ducting to the rear would subject the aair its carrying to too much heat. Even trying to make the SS hood work would take some hairpin gymnastics that would kill flow and velocity.
A 2" cowl hood to cover an HSR with a pair of NACA ducts at the front corners sounds like the best approach to me.

87TPI, man I hate to keep bothering you about it but I just have one more question about that awesome-looking sound system. What's the name of the company that built it? I mean will they ship one to me or would I need to drive up there to get it done? Thanks a lot man. By the way, super duty was definetly the way to go.

Well the name of the place is Exotic car audio, but it's in Carson city Nevada.Any audio shop that is able to build fiberglass boxes would be able to make it.They had my car for a little over a dayto form it so I don't know about shipping it.You're in Alabama right?
Yeah, hmmm... I guess I'll ask around and see if somebody down here can build it for me. I guess it would be kinda tough for them to custom fit a box if I can't bring the car in for them to use. I guess it's worth a shot to ask anyway, right?
