88 GTA, 350, auto, PRICE DROP

1988 GTA. 350 TPI, Auto. Bright Red. 67,xxx original miles. Overall car is pretty stock, but I did add Hotchkis rear arms, all poly bushings up front, KYB struts/shocks, new tie rods/ball joints, C4 Vette front brakes and PBR rears. Motor has an Accel base, MSD coil, Hooker 2055’s, gutted cat and a Flowmaster catback. I’ve had the car since 2004, and have only put about 1500 miles on it. The story is this car was wrecked sometime in 1992, the PO got it, fixed it, did a respray, and never drove it. When I got it it’s last inspection was 1997, hence the low miles and absolutely zero rust. Because of it’s accident, it does have a PA R title, but is clear in my name.

The car was bone stock when I got it, and needed nothing. I pulled all of the suspension out for upgrades, did the underside/rear end and such in POR-15 before adding/upgrading the brakes and suspension. Following that came the minor bolt ons for the motor. Car was missing a radio when I got it, so it currently has a Clarion head unit and all stock speakers. Interior is in nice shape, with the headliner just starting to sag, and the usual issue with the console by the shifter. Seats are great as is dash and such. AC doesn’t work. It’s all there, and since I so rarely drive it, I never bothered to mess with it. I do have the original gold wheels for it. Two of them had some curb rash that I wanted to get fixed, so I bought a black set with new Yokohama tires for temporary use until the gold ones were refinished. Both sets come with the car. It runs and shifts great, with it having just a little hesitation when it’s cold. Anything I’ve done to this car has low miles on it, and it doesn’t get driven in rain or snow. The respray that was done is ok, but the rear spoiler is cracked and some paint is cracking up on the front nose by the turn signal. It had no emblems when I got it, so I put on the repop ones, and they haven’t held up the best. I hate to sell it, but want to buy another house, so something has to go. Looking for 3900 obo, so drop me a line if interested. I don’t think I forgot anything. I don’t absolutely have to sell, so please don’t lowball me. It’s a clean and low mile car, which is getting harder and harder to find. Any other questions, just let me know.

Car is in Pittsburgh, PA.

Here are the pics. All were taken today except the ones of the car outside. Those are from last summer, but I wanted to show it with the original wheels.

I think there is a combination of things going on. Right now it is a crappy time to sell anything. Beyond that I think that the salvage title scares quite a few people off. I'm no where near your area and don't have $6,000 to spend on a Trans Am, even if I did, I'd be looking for a T-top car. Still if I were to seriously look at the car in question I'd want to know more about the accident. I think many people would. Are we talking about a front fender and nose, or are we talking uni-body tweaking, quarter panel replacement, etc. I think anyone looking to buy this would want to make sure they aren't going to get a bondo trap that looks good today, but will develop cracks and other issues in a few years time.

Re: 88 GTA, 350, auto

That makes sense. I don't know a whole lot about the accident, as it was fixed for years before I got it. What the PO did tell me was that he replaced the hood, nose, driver's fender and core support. As far as I know, there isn't any bondo on the car at all. Probably should have given that info in my original post.

I think pics of the top and bottom of the radiator support would help you out. At least if it was fixed properly. As would pictures of the frame horns. Though they are difficult to get an angle on with the tray in front of the support still in place. To be perfectly honest repaired damage up there puts me at ease compared to work on the rear quarters and trunk area. That's just me I guess. If the car was fixed right then I think it would put people's minds at ease to see proof of that. I know that if the radiator support were cut out and new metal was welded in, as was the frame horns, I'd have no problem buying that car if I was interested in it.

All that being said these cars seem to be going for next to nothing right now. Some really nice cars are being sold for around a grand less than what the sellers were probably looking to get originally. No one is buying right now with the economy sucking as bad as it has lately. Its a good looking car man, I hope you find a good home for it.

Re: 88 GTA, 350, auto

They really don't seem to command much these days. It's not even that I want to sell it, it just doesn't get used. I was hoping I could pass it along to someone who would get more use out of it. I'll try and get some decent pics if I can, and just see what happens with it. I appreciate the input.

Re: 88 GTA, 350, auto, PRICE DROP

Nice car none the less but the price is high by comparison to what is been listed out there especialy having a rebuild tittle. assuming the repairs where done right and there is no estructural damage, i would say around the $3000 range, this is just my opinion, dont get discourage am just been honest you can ask as much as they are willing to pay... good luck with the sale

Re: 88 GTA, 350, auto, PRICE DROP

You are off your rocker if you think that is a 3K car. The 5K he is asking now seems low to me. If that car were mine I would ask 7, and wouldn't take less than 6,500 for it. Especially if it drives as well as it looks. I would paint the wheels back to gold, clean the floormats, re adjust that front hood gap, and re list somewhere local, in the paper, classic car trader for 7K.

x2

it looks really clean, and its low milage. Wrecked or not, its clean, and provided it was fixed right its worth money. Does it have a R title? or is it standard?

5k is a steal from what i see

rebuilt tittle is a rebult tittle. unless he can find someone that wants the car bad enough probably like he did when he bought it, is not going to happen sorry. not at this day in time.

Re: 88 GTA, 350, auto, PRICE DROP

I appreciate all the feedback. Yes, it's a rebuilt title, but honestly, that never bothered me at all. This car is a driver, not a show car, so I didn't care when I bought it. Regardless if I'm asking too much or too little, it's a great car that I just don't have time or space for. I'd love to keep it, but life as it is says it's time to part ways. I hope it finds a good home, and if not, I'll just have to keep storing it and give it it's occasional drive.

Re: 88 GTA, 350, auto, PRICE DROP

One thing to keep in kind is that if you have a potential buyer out of state, that person could run into major headaches trying to register and title a salvaged car in their state. Rebuilt and Salvage titles are nightmares once the car is sold to another owner, especially when they are out of state.
It is a nice looking car, no doubt. However, one thing to keep in mind is that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay. Not many people have a bunch of extra money anymore to buy luxuries such as a car like this. Regardless, I hope you do find a buyer for it that can afford to give you what you're asking. Before letting it go for a ridiculous price, I'd keep it and enjoy it whenever I could. Just a suggestion...

Re: 88 GTA, 350, auto, PRICE DROP

Here's another bump for you!

Just my opinion for what it worth on the Rebuilt/Salvage tile thing. Mine is. I have the carfax on it. P/O drove threw a fence, messed up the hood and nose. Insurance company totalled it out. Therefore a Salvage tiltle. New owner replaced hood and nose, got it inspected, therefore a R/R title. These were just body parts, easibly obtainable at the time and the car was whole again.

Did you all know if you change or use ANY major part from another car (fender, hood, door, engine, transmssion) it is considered SALVAGED until inspected and then you get a R/R title? So most of you doing engine swaps out there even with a clean title CAN be proven as SALVAGE titles. That is the law as it stands in OHIO.

Does the law need to be changed. HELL YES!

My car was one of 10 stock GTA's last year at the Dayton Marriott car show, I am very proud of that and my car. They did not ask for a clean title.

For a SERIOUS car buyer, they want what they see, a great car with no mechanical or body defects. Why is a car title different than a home title?

I have $5800 not including my labor in my restore car with a R/R title and I will not sell it for less!

Distance is only relative to how much you want to spend or can afford to buy anything. I drove 8 hours round trip to Ashland Ky from Dayton Oh to pay $500 for a set of GTA wheels and tires to complete my project car.

Re: 88 GTA, 350, auto, PRICE DROP

The title deal messes up the financing, it puts him in a position where someone has to be able to pay cash for the car - or suffer with the higher interest rate of doing it via personal loan. I don't think anyone gives two turds about the condition of the title as long as the car is nice. It's the dang bank that cares about the title.

Re: 88 GTA, 350, auto, PRICE DROP

I wouldn't drop the price any lower than you already have. At that point you would be giving it away. Try posting it on free sites such as craigslist, hoobly, iwanta, etc. Try autotrader even for a small fee, but raise your price to cover the cost of the ad. Run a carfax as well, so you know what other people see when they check out your vehicle. Run a NADA classics price on it too. I just bought my GTA off of craigslist for about what your asking and it still needs work done to it. I don't think you're way off, you always have to leave room for negotiations.
