1987 Trans Am for Sale

I have a running 1987 parts car up for sale. Selling the car complete only. I'd rather not part it out. I do not have the room for another non-running parts car. If I start taking this car apart that's exactly what it will be. The car is a 1987 Trans Am LG4 A4 T-top car with 139,000 miles on it. I believe it is a WS6 car but I do not have RPO codes to back this up.

The Good

Excellent interior which is mostly complete. Not perfect, but excellent for the most part. The door panels and armrests are in decent shape but the door panels do need recovering. All the plastics are in really good shape, the carpet is no more, the radio pod and center console are decent, the dash pad is cracked of course. The dash is good, the steering wheel and shift ***** aren't bad and the seats are actually not ripped. They are a little dirty but not too bad. Both head lights pop up and work well. The car is actually really clean looking save for some rock chips in the paint on the front and a couple minor dings here and there. The wheels are the gold crosslace 15" wheels. I do not have RPO codes but suffice it to say this car lacks options. T-Tops, UQ7 sound system, (original head unit is long gone) and the cargo shade cover. That's about it. All the glass is in excellent condition and the tail lights are nearly immaculate with one having the smallest flaw which could be buffed out with plastic polish. The T-Top seals are excellent and seem like they are practically new. The tops do not leak currently, though there is evidence that they did in the past. The paint even looks pretty good at a distance but it is a cheap re-spray job that looked like it was well prepped for. The spoiler is in great shape for the most part and is only now just cracking. The headliner is in pretty good shape as well.

The car runs great. It is a little tough to get started sometimes when its been sitting for a few days. It has an Edlebrock Performer intake manifold, and 600CFM carb. New plug wires, and Accel coil and distributor cap. The radiator and hoses are all in good shape as well. Electrically the car is pretty good with minimal tampering. For some odd reason the car has a TBI wiring harness in it but the VIN confirms that the car was originally an LG4 car. The car is equipped with the Wonder Bar up front and handles quite nicely. The shocks are all good and the brakes work well. The tires have some tread life left in them as well. The wheels have no serious curb rash or blemishes. The transmission works well for the most part, with only a slight thunk when going into reverse. Aside from that it shifts very well. The exhaust is actually in good order and the car sounds pretty good.

Overall the car runs and drives good.

The Bad

The car has a slight thunk when going into reverse. The power antennae doesn't work and was cut off so there isn't **** for radio reception. One of the gauges has a burned out bulb so it is dimmer at night than the others. I think the oil pressure gauge is doing that. I'd have pulled it and replaced the bulb but I never got around to it. There are no sun visors included with the car. I never received them, so any potential buyers will be out of luck on those. The interior isn't fully assembled, but will be included with the sale. On the upside you won't have to remove it if you decide to part out the car or fix it. That part is done. All the screws and everything are labeled and bagged already to make things easier to reassemble. None of the lights in the overhead console work. Not sure why, I've never looked into it. The AC does not work. I think it needs to be recharged, but then again it could be something else. I do believe the compressor works. If not I've got like 4 of those things or something. Take your pic of the litter.

The Ugly

Here is why this is a parts car, or at least a serious restoration project for someone with mad skills at best. The body is in good shape until you get underneath it. It was a Illinois car and as a result it's been eaten by the road salt. The firewall, front wheel wells, part of the sub-frame, the driver's side rear wheel well and floor pans show some spots that go through and through. The radiator support is also being eaten. Hence why this is a parts car. I'd fix it but frankly it is not cost effective to do so. Time to move on. There is also some surface rust around the T-Tops but nothing that goes through. Some mild pitting and that's it. The deck lid is pretty much a lost cause. There is rust coming through in multiple places on the bottom of it. The car is still structurally solid for the most part, but you know rust, it never gets better until you cut it out and replace metal.

Freebies

I've done some work on this thing and will include some parts I've already installed with the car. It has the Wonder Bar, and a 140MPH gauge cluster in it. The car came with the 80MPH cluster which wasn't in the best shape. I'll give you both clusters so that you'll have all the bulbs you could want. I've got some headers (Edelbrock shorties) that I'll include with it as well. They are rusty but a few minutes with a wire wheel will clean them up nicely. I've got a serpentine setup an extra A/C compressor and other miscellaneous parts you can have with it.

Other information:

2.73 rear end with drums
700R4 Transmission

Terms

I'm looking to get $750OBO for this car. No low ball offers please. I do have the title for it as well. The car is located in the DFW area and I can arrange to deliver if necessary. I'm also parting out the white car next to this car. Let me know if you need anything. The car is mostly complete, but disassembled.

You can contact me here or via PM.

Re: 1987 Trans Am for Sale

Damn, $750 is a steal for this thing. It needs to be saved from rust underneath but it is still a sharp looking car and it runs well.

Re: 1987 Trans Am for Sale

With some carpet and different seats, and a dashpad the interior would be pretty sharp as well. Thats one of the things that sold me on the car to begin with. The rust repair isn't impossible either and I think I may tackle some of it anyway because I need the practice. But I've been driving this car now for awhile almost daily and its been great. Handles well, idles nicely etc. The thing isn't a rocket off the line but it has good power for passing and general cruising.
