Okay, I'm starting to fish
Hi all,
I joined up a few days ago, and am now preparing to buy a 3rd gen. Has to be a Pontiac, and I would prefer a T/A.
I am currently preparing to move and sell off an 82 Riviera to help fund my project. As such, I have limited funds right now, but I need to find out what I am looking at for a reliable running car, not completely rusted to hell. I am hoping the enlightened here can help guide me. Thanks all

Whats your location? Prices on these cars vary by region, and far more than most other kinds of cars.
As a side note, whats the deal on the riviera, miles and condition? Which optional Buick 3.8/Buick 4.1L/Buick 350/Olds350 diesel/Olds307 engine?

I live in the heart of Chicago. As far as the Rivy is concerned, its a 1982 with 94k on the clock. She has the olds 307. The interior is almost perfectly mint. With the exception of the head liner, and the Grant GT steering wheel, you would never guess that it has even been sat in. The car has 3 issues.
The pass side mirror is MIA, the housing is there, just no glass.
There is a patch of rust on each rear q-panel about the size of a pack of smokes. it's surface rust, it just looks rough.
There is a crack in the exhaust by the cat. It isn't enough to make her loud, just enough that during the winter I could see the exhaust leak at the firewall so at first I thought that the engine was smoking.
Aside from that, she's fine. I drove her about 20 miles home, with no issues. All of the glass is perfect with no cracks, pits or scratches. The interior is the rare seafoam that matches the Landau top. The car of course will need paint, but is currently the original Deep Teal. It has the deluxe chrome package with full chrome body trim. And all of the chrome is perfect. No rust on it, no pitting, scrapes or dents. The frame is real solid with only minor surface rust. (Thank God for Rusty Jones) All in all, a real solid foundation for a project. I'm asking for $750, or maybe trade it for a decent F-body in like condition. Thanks for asking.

Welcome aboard then! If you decide to make a push on selling the rivvy check out buickclub.org its the buick club of america forums, and they have a rivvy owners group and a general buy/sell board... I've always been a fan of those cars, have a sfi turbo v6 one some years back and still holds a soft spot in the heart lol
In your area you have a mixed bag: should be a bunch of options in the 1-2k range, BUT, there is likely going to be rust... especially hidden in the primer covered cars. T-tops only make it worse so I'd recommend trying to stick to a hardtop.
If you could get into the 2500-3500 range you'd probably get a pretty nice ride as the prices are soft these days.
