Back in 1985 when I bought my 85 T/A I saw this same article. I went for years without finding any info on the car. Then in 1989 at Trans-arama in Reno I ran into a guy from Washington who had this car. It had the same striping, hood bird and the red strip around the 16in High Tech wheels. His car was a 305 TPI with Auto. He had it for a few years and it was quite rough. It was bought as a Daytona Pace car replica. Unfortunately he did not know of any production numbers. Trans Ams paced Daytona for several years. In '82 it was a red T/A if I remember correctly. Pontiac didn't make production replicas of them most of the time. They only made two actual pace cars and some other look-alikes for the VIPs at the race. If you find one of the "real" pace cars or a race-event car, it'd be a rare find!
Of course there's the '83 run of replicas for general consumption that aren't too hard to find.

anyone ever seen (in real life) the 1982 Pikes Peak Trans Am Pace Car or the 1982 Nascar T/A Pace Car?
