THats a great story, I regret passing on a 60K 92 GTA that the guy was asking $4000 for about 5 years ago, it was a Hardopt 350 car, in the Dark Green color, Cloth brown seats. I stoped to look at it one day went back the next day to buy it and it had sold... Live and learn. If it was yellow I would have bought it on the spot.

Parents provided the down payment for my 17th birthday. We got hosed from a local used car dealership, but I worked and payed it off. That was about 6 years ago. Thought about selling it a few times and buying something newer, but I could never bring myself to do it.

If I had put as much money as I have into the stereo system, into the car and engine, I would have a brand new Camaro by now!

My first 3rdgen was an "86" firebird carbed 2.8(I'll explain that one...) After buying it and showing some pictures to friends we started to worry about something aswell as i started to read up about it...It was an 84 with an 86 hatch and the vin was for an 86 firebird...so i sold that as soon as possible. paid 450 after seeing it in the paper and sold it for 600.

In late july of 05 my friend told me of a camaro for sale for cheap. I thought it was gonna be a rust bucket POS 6 banger. After going to see it, I saw hood louvers and looked at the rocker panel and saw "IROC-Z" It was there that I gave the man 500 bucks and took the car away the next day. L98, A4 with 125k miles on it when i bought it. I acutally bought it on August 15th, reason i can remember it is because it was on my dads birthday...he wasnt too happy i brought a car home on his birthday. lol.

It now has a hair under 129k miles. Needs a rear main and thats it.

Car: 1988 Trans Am
Engine: L98 355
Transmission: 700R4
Axle/Gears: 3.70
In 1994, one of my father's clients let him know his son's 1983 Trans Am was for sale. The car was a real piece of work-it had been repainted white (it was black and gold) with green accents, custom wheels and a huge thumping stereo. Not knowing any better, I jumped at the chance to buy it and paid $3000. The body was solid, no dents or rust, but it rode awful. I traded it in a year later for an 87 T/A with about 87k on the clock. Still an LG4, but it was blue and silver (my favorite paint scheme) and she looked good. A year and a half after that, I swapped her for an 89 red GTA 350. Awesome car, except the engine was shot (kept oil-fouling plugs every 300 miles). I sunk so much money into that piece it's embarrassing to talk about. Four years later (2000) I found an 85 TPI T/A with about 60k on the clock, and bought it with the intent of showing it. That fall, I got a nice raise at work and decided it was time to own my first new Trans Am. I sold the 85 and the 89 and bought a 2000 new in November. A world of difference in performance and handling-but the car didn't have the soul of the third-gens, and it didn't inspire me much. I sold her a couple years later for a FWD car, trying to be responsible and all that. Fast forward to 2005- I'm married, own a house, and decide I want a third-gen again. I find a 52k-mile 87 GTA and pick it up. But, it's a 305- and has a few issues. I sink a few bucks into her but I'm still not satisfied. So, I approach my long-time mechanic about turning her into the beast I know she can be- because he built an 88 T/A to the teeth for his son about 6 years prior. He'd tell me it was for sale every time we talked, but he was always asking more than I could afford- until now. He told me flat out he wasn't that interested in building up my car when he was sitting on a 30k-mile mint 88 Trans Am with over 500hp...he thought I should just buy his.

Because I had known the car, the guy who built her, and how it was driven the past 7 years (basically-not at all), I made the decision to sell the GTA and buy the 88. I never imagined that one day I would own that legendary beast I had drooled over for years, but she's now parked safe and sound in my garage.

Lucky number 7 she is- and she is the Ultimate Trans Am (to me!!!).

I bought my T/A while I was stationed in Germany back in 2004. I was working part time at the base Auto Hobby Shop when one day this 86 T/A shows up to be stored in our holding lot. I didn't know at the time, but the girl that owned it ran it hot and blew a head gasket (car only had 53K miles on it). She took it to the local GM dealer, but they pretty much screwed her over. They dismantled the top of the engine, quit, then left the hood up...didn't even throw something over the block to keep crap out of it. Needless to say, the cylinders filled with water. This girl then gets an offer from some local GIs that tell her they can do the work for her. So she drags the car to their base and they promptly get sent to Iraq for a year. Now with no place to keep a non-running car, she ends up bringing it to our shop to put in storage. There it sat for quite a few months. One weekend she comes because her storage bill hadn't been paid since she brought it in (and still left without doing so). I didn't know what the deal with the car was at the time, so I asked her and she proceeds to tell me about the dealer and the GIs...it was her mother's car...etc. Of course being the owner, at the time, of 2-92 RSs, a 70 and a 78 Camaro, and having built new engines for 3 of them, I offered to put the car back together for her...at cost. A week or 2 passed before she decides to go for my rebuild offer. But before I even started buying anything, I get a call from her and she decides she wants to sell the car...she had gone and bought herself a 2002 T/A. Without hesitation I asked her what she wanted for it...all she asked was that I pay the storage fees up to date; about $270. I had just sold my 72 Roadrunner and quickly jumped at it. The rest, as they say, is history.
The block was shot, so I used a crank and block out of a 91 T/A that I had. Surprisingly she still had most of the pieces/parts in boxes. What I could reuse, I did. Rebuilt the heads, new rings...the normal rebuild crap, upgraded the cam, and a few other nitnoid things (did have to buy a new t/b)...maybe spent $400..$500 tops. I got it back together just in time to ship it all back to the USA (not running because I was missing the cold start switch). Total invested in the car: Roughly $1800-2000.
It's my daily driver now...odometer shows the new engine just shy of 5000 miles (57K on the car) and gets decent MPG considering the way I drive it. The A/C still works (as does all the other electrical doodads), the t-tops don't leak (still has the bag and the inserts), still has a good rear shade and its a WS6 car. But it has one very large problem...its an ugly SOB. Supposed to be red/silver...the car was painted a mint green metallic for reasons unknown.

I guess I shouldn't complain....

I found mine on the net. I was looking for a standard 82/83 T/A (they are cheaper in Norway), and I found the one I have now at a very low cost. I asked him for the ID plate and found out that it was a real recaro! So I called him up and bought it without even seeing it...

- It was worth it !

Silver 1983 T/A: Saw a person looking at the classifieds and after he was finished I took a look at them and saw For Sale: 1983 T/A 5 Speed. Went down there that night and realized it was a car that I had seen driving around for two years. I bought it the next day.

Daytona 1983 T/A: My buddy recently purchased a 1982 Indy Z and I had watched Alphabet City the night before. I knew it was time to look for a Daytona. I found one in the classifieds after a couple hours of searching listed for $2000. After talking with the owner I had found out it was a 1 of 520 5 speed car and went to look at it the next day. When I arrived at his place there were two 5 speed Daytonas sitting in his garage. Long story short I had a Blue CFI 1983 T/A that he liked so much we ended up trading cars on April 1st 2005. I just hope I wasn't a fool for buying this one!!

1986 T/A: 90firebird on the boards introduced me to this car that he knew of for countless years prior. It rarely moved and I didn't pay too much attention to it at the time except that it had the 1986 T-top/GTA wheel combo. One time I passed by it and decided to take a peek inside. That is when I saw the mint interior and the odometer reading 06x,xxx miles. Fast forward to 2005 I was notified that it was for sale but I didn't think much of it. Fast forward to May 1 2006 I just came back from looking at a 1988 GTA that turned out to be a total mess and I just happened to be in the area of the 1986 T/A. I decided to go look at it just for fun. The car was a one owner car that was religiously maintained and the price couldn't be beat so I drove home with it the next day.

My dad called me very early one Saturday morning and told me of a "slick lookin' Camaro" for sale about 30 minutes away. Being appx. 7:30 am and after having only gone to bed sometime around 4, I wasn't too anxious. He had told me of 'nice' cars in the past that turned out to be dogs up close. Somehow he convinced me, fortunately, and I rolled outta bed and took a drive to meet him there.
As soon as I saw it in the distance, I knew it was meant to be. It was more gorgeous than I thought it would be.
We called the hispanic lady who owned it, she worked up the street. She came and I test drove it. I'll never forget the glorious smell that eminated when I opened the door for the first time. Surely I had found my first love.
She said he had a large collection of vehicles and needed space in her barn for a new truck and just wanted the Camaro out.
$3,500 later, I was the proud owner. Every once in awhile I'll catch a hint of that smell.

1984 Firebird Trans Am. I'm the third owner. I fell in love with the car (of course growing up watching Night Rider helped) back when I was a kid when my Cousin would visit and learned while I was home on leave from Germany that she was selling the car (now 18 years later). Since my 67 Camaro had been parked for 6 years and I wanted a running car when I moved back to the states, I asked her how much she wanted for it. The dealer had it on consignment for 10 grand! Can you believe that!? 5000 and out the door I went. 2 days is all it took! lol!

The first owner had it for 2 years but had it repoed lol! She got it from the dealership that took it back. I have all receipts for any work ever done to it except when she had the front and rear end swapped with a 1990 GTA. The Fog lights don't fit quite right and in the past 3 years I've not been able to get them to fit. /sigh oh well.

I've had it since 2003 now and I just rolled 100k miles. I love this car! (My fiance hates it...it's too old.)

camaros

My first car I bought when I was 16 was a 69' RS/SS camaro which I still have. My second car was an 81' camaro 6 cyl. Third was a 89' Iroc w/ 52xxx
miles on it.
The last two I have bought came off of ebay- I have a 1989 Iroc convertible and a 1986 z/28 convertible special edition. (*ASC I believe)
My next purchase will be another chevelle I'm looking for a 70' in need of some work if anybody has one.

Ive owned my RS Convert for a little over 6 months now. But, Ive seen it being driven around just about everyday for the past 5 years.

About a year ago I saw it parked at one of my neighbors house and there it sat for the past year. 6 months ago the same neighbor came over to my house to inquire about a 92 Cavalier Ive had sitting in my drive way. Asking if I would be intersted in selling it to him as his daughter needs a first car.

A deal was struck and I trade my 92 Cavalier straight up for the 89 Camaro Convert.

Not a bad deal I think. The Camaro needs a little work. But, atleast its a Camaro and not a Cavalier.

The 3rd gen that I'm on this site for is actually my 7 year old sons. I had been looking for a Corvette to replace the one I sold when he was about a month from this world. I decided to start looking at other GM muscle cars and cam across a 68 Firebird on eBay. I called the guy and discussed a few things about it and found that one of the frame rails was rotted pretty good, but the car was so cheap! I thought about it and decided that it would make a good car for my son and I to work on and went to bid, but the auction had ended. Now with the idea in my head that I would buy him a car I started looking. 3 or 4 days later I was flipping through an auto trader and came across an 87 Formula. I liked the 91-92s better, but the price was good, so I called and set up a time to go look. I got there and the guy had 5 F-bodies, so I spent plenty of time looking at them and discussing this and that. I finally settled on a mostly stock 87 Iroc Z with T-Tops (like my Vette had ). The body was extremely clean and solid. Other than running rough and needing rear brake work would be driveable. The car was delivered last Wednesday and we've done plenty of little things like replace the steering wheel, install a radio, order new seat skins, change hood and hatch struts, and clean. I just bought a dash pad for it today. We have plenty of time to finish the project, but I think I have him convinced that getting to ride in the car before he's 16 will be almost as cool as driving it. Dad likes it! I just hope it's as cool to drive a 27 year old classic Camaro when he's 16 as I am imagining it will be.

Car: 2001 Trans Am WS.6, 1985 Trans Am-RIP :,(

When I was 16 I wanted a new TA, I thought the WS6 was the most badass looking car made. But since I was 16, there was no way I could afford it. So I started looking at the older ones. I didnt have much money, so I couldn't get a mint 3rd gen. I didnt want to deal with carbs, so that eliminated 2nd gens, plus finding one in good shape for cheap is a miracle. My dad works for GM so that eliminated settling for a mustang. I looked into some of the earlier 4th gens, but i never liked the front end of them, 2 pointy or something, and I was never a fan of camaro's, always have been a pontiac guy. So I spent the summer after my 16th bday looking, then in october, I finally found one. My '85. Had a 305TPI, t-tops, was silver, with tan leather interior. Had some aftermkt chrome rims and aftrmkt stereo. I checked it out, it ran good, looked decent, needed some work, but for the price I jumped on it. The car lasted about 3 years, from Oct '01 to Nov '04. In those 3 years, I got into 2 accidents, went through 2 transmissions, put on about 45000 miles(no mistype, i drove a ton), and got 3 speeding tickets. Finally, in nov '04, it died. It died a long, painful death. 3 different colors, a hatch from a 91 RS, a slipping trans, and mildly built, but very beat, 305tpi. It survived a run in with a tree, and a 50+ car pileup on I94. It took me to and from school, work, girlfriends houses, prom and homecomings, and roadtrip from hell. Best of all, it taught me how to work on cars, got me into the hobby. After 3 years of pouring my blood, sweat, tears, and cash into it, I let it go.

And promptly bought a '01 WS6. Which have now already put about 25k on it, and have gone through 1 rearend. After I get a better job, and a house, I'll be buying another 3rd gen. This time it'll be built right and taken care of properly.

i was looking at a 2nd gen at the time

i wanted a camaro at the time(2 months ago). i had been eyeing up a second gen car in town. it was a 1981 berlinitta that someone had put a 350 @ 300 hp in it. I love all camaro's not just 3rd gens, but the 3rd gen has a special place with me, i grew up with one. asking price for that car was 3,000 FIRM. it was a nice car, clean but needed a paint job, also very fast car. i was going to my parents house the one day and there it was my 1989 camaro RS 305. T-TOPS, cruise control, PDL, PW, A/C; it was also a very clean N. carolina car. Asking price 2,500. you know what stopped me from buying the 1981? i know it sounds funny but gas millage stopped me from getting the 81. the idea of having a built carbed small block didnt appeal to me. i dont make much money and need something that gets good gas millage. when you make $360/week and live on your own(with my wife) i have a lot of bills. several credit cards, rent ect. i love the small block dont get me wrong but i need something thats fuel injected. my RS is a 305 so at least i can build it mildly. i wanted a fuel injected small block not a V6, not a carbed V8. I am very very pleased with the 89, gets awsome millage and has enough power to be entertaining. could use a LITTLE more power but not much more. i also liked the idea of owning a 3rd gen. i grew up with a 1984 camaro Z28 305 HO, and a few years ago my stepfather bought a 1988 IROC wreck for the 305 TPI, trans, and wheels for his 84. he also removed everything else from the car before he junked it. so i had a wide selection of parts at my dispose. im very please with my RS, i paid 2,200 and that was a small price for me to pay for what i feel is the most enjoyable car i have ever owned. handling is fantasic, acelleration is adaquate, and fuel economy is good. there are some parts that i still need to get. the imposible to find T-top headliner, a dash pad, and a driver side mirror.

I got my car new in 1988. Never winter driven - only really driven about 10 summers. The only thing "fixed" on her has been one headlight, the alternator and muffler (two summers ago) and the front break pads. Last summer, I replaced the original wiper blades.

She had about 60,000 miles on her before I took her apart for a complete rebuild ...everything from the water pump back to the tailpipes. I'm hoping to have her back on the road by the end of this summer.

A coworker told me about this car he was going to possibly pick up. He told me that it was an 88 Formula 350 and then I asked him why because he just lost his license for 2 years for a DUI
I had an 85 Iroc 15 years before and really missed it so I talked him into letting me have it. The owner was going to give the car to him because his wife wanted it out of the driveway.
My coworker didnt have a car trailer but I did. Gotta love a free car that runs good.

Looked for a good 8 months for a 5-speed V8 in good shape. I really wanted to get a Z28 305TPI, but I found a Metallic Blue 91 RS, 5-speed 305, F41 suspension, T-tops, for sale in Pennsylvania.....I live in Cincinnati. Drove out there with my dad, fell in love with her, started my trip back home. 115k miles, perfect shape (minus a couple small rust spots underneath), for $2500. Now shes back in Cincy with fresh suspension, clutch, and exhaust.....just cryin for a 350.......

I had mine from a friend of my dad who wanted to take her to the junkyard . Why ? I don't know the engine was still runnin nice and needed some minor bodywork and some suspension/steering parts . Anyway he gave it to me (no joke!) so when I came taking this babe I brought a case of Beer so I'd say I had this one for a case of beer . Not bad for a first car and I'll sure never sell it ...

Car: Red 1991 Camaro RS
Engine: 5.0L 305 TBI
I was going to get a perfect 1981 black corvette with black interior, cheap too because the guy was getting rid of all of his cars, the first day I could go buy it I had a track meet so my parents were going to pick it up with cash in hand, some guy drove by and bought it on the spot, halfway to ohio they had to turn around. Then I decided that I wouldn't be able to find another corvette so I started looking into camaros, I hate the 4th gen style so I looked for a 3rd gen, I found my red 1991 RS 305 not too long after, and I have loved it ever since. We realized that the rear-end had a bent axel on one side, so we were going to replace it. We took the rear-end apart and when we put it back together we missed one of the spider gears, while I was driving the gear hit, stripped the rest of the gears and shot out the back pan, axel dope everywhere. I ended up getting a black painted rear-end off of a GM show car, so it worked out fine. Not a bad first car.

My Toy Car

My wife bought me my current car as a birthday present this year. I found it via the internet, only two hours away from home and fell in love with it after a test drive. She picked it up as a surprise in March and didn't tell me about it for 6 weeks until my birthday in May. It's an 89 GTA with only 37K miles on it and I believe I am the third owner of the car. Other than the rear spoiler being cracked, it is in execellent condition and everything works. My five year old son calls it my "Toy Car"

I own another 3rd Gen car. It is a Black/Gold 82 Trans Am with 305 TBI, automaitc trans, T-Tops, PMD interior. I'm the original owner. It's is not running at this time and is in need of serious work. Maybe someday I'll get back to it.

Here's the new car.

I was never really into 3rd gen camaros at all, but I wanted a car to restore and just have fun in. In may of '05 I came across an 1984 Camaro with no motor or trans and gave the guy $500 for it, the body is super straight, I originaly came with a v6 and a t5, power nothing on the inside but it does have t-tops and nothing leaks. Well I got a tip from my neighbor who races modifieds and builds motors that there was a guy downtown in Wichita Falls, 10 miles away from where I live, that a guy had a 350 out of a 70s model vette. So I went down there looking for it, I think the guy wanted $300 for it, well I never found it. I was on my way home with my dad and we drove past a used car lot and saw a 3rd gen camaro so we went in and checked it out, it was an '88 IROC and the guy wanted $1800 cash, so we bought it. This was in Sept. of '05. Since then I love 3rd gens and plan on owning some more in the future. I still own in the '84 and my dad is putting a 400 sbc with dart heads, speed pro pistons, roller everything, we should be assymbling that this weekend, I hope. Here are some pics of the IROC after I got it, right now I am in the middle of paint so it is in pieces right now.

I was looking for a different car my junior year of high school when my buddy and I ran across one on the internet. It was for sale at a Ford dealership and was listed as a 1988 V-6, 5-speed, but had the IROC exterior treatment. Turned out to be an actual 305 TPI IROC with only 22,000 original miles (in 2002). Went down to test drive it the next day and brought it home with the T-tops off in 45 degree South Dakota April.

On my latest purchase
Sam C, A member here on TGO, won an 89 Formula 350 Convertible on E-Bay. I told him that if he ever wanted to sell the car to let me know. about 3 weeks ago he contacted me and let me know that he purchased a 92 Firehawk (#26) and the Vert had to go as he had no place to park it.

I drove 12 hours to NC to look at the car on June 30, and Drove the car back on July 1, it has 35,987 original miles, Sam put 10,000 on it the 2 years he owned it, I drove 11 hours back to MI. 27 Gallons of Gas, 688 miles, it got a whopping 25 mpg highway.

Well let's see. Bought mine on April 22nd. I had been looking for like 6 months prior for one and didn't find any that I liked. I had wanted to find a IROC, t-top with a 5-spd 350. Had rarely seen any of those and the ones I did wanted way too much.

The week before I went to go see a 89 IROC that was advertised on AutoTrader. It looked really clean, was a 350 but a hardtop and auto, though it had a shift kit on it. Looked underneath and there was a little rust. Looked inside the engine compartment and saw a bit of rust on the fenders. Didn't look too bad though, but was kind of weary about it. The guy wanted 2900 for it. I told the guy I was really interested, asked him what kind of payment and stuff. I came back the next day with $2000 to put down and he had sold it already.

During the week I got a call from a friend who said the guy he bought he Camaro from had another one that was in alright condition. I went to go look at it Thursday morning. Body was straight but in need of a paintjob. Interior was a complete mess, water filled the back floor area and was sitting there. Basically it was a nightmare really. It had t-tops which were in really good condition. Only problems mechanical wise were the alternator and the rear hatch pulldown unit. I asked him how much he wanted for it and he said $850. I told him I would think about it. Friday I went down and gave him half the money for it and Saturday I gave him the rest.

I drove it to my buddies house as I didn't want to bring it home to the parents in that kind of condition as they would flip out. So when I got to his house, which was 5 minutes away, we cleaned the interior and stuff. Still looked like crap as the carpet was soaking wet still and was stained. I went to go drive it home and halfway there the car died, they hadn't replaced the alternator.

Well I didn't have any AAA then so I had my friend basically push the car with his truck all the way back to his house. That was interesting as I had no steering, brakes were really soft. Unfortunately the road went underneath some railroad tracks, so he had to push me up to 40 mph to get me over the other side. I think I nearly soiled my shorts.

So anyways we got it over to his house and it sat there for like a week to a week and half cause I was working. I replaced the alternator and drove it home with him following behind me in my truck. I got home and my father was outside. He wasn't too pleased, neither was my mother. Though I expected that since my parents aren't the hands on type of people.

That's how I got my first 3rd gen. Remember the water in the back floor that soaked the carpet? It had been sitting there a long time, here's a picture of the floor pans.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...W/IMG_5552.jpg

I planned on replacing the interior anyways so I got a hell of a steal. $850 for the car, and so far I have spent about 1500-2000 on it. I've got most of the interior parts, just needs a paintjob now.

I got my '84 T/A on June 6th, 1991. It was my second car and my folks loaned me the $$ to get it. My first car had just burned up from a car fire so they helped me out. I was 16 at the time.

What's interesting about my car purchase is that I had bought it in upstate NY, and had later moved to NJ after graduating college. When I purchased the PHS documents on my car- turns out the car was originally sold about 10 miles from where I was living at the time in NJ.

My wife had an 84 sport coupe when we started dating, we had planned on keeping the car forever, long story short we ended up selling it. I spent years looking for another 84 to replace the one that got away, finally found one 3 years ago. Have been rebuilding it since I bought it.

Well I am new to this forum and I thought this might be a good tread to start with. I have 2 Firebirds. My 91 I bought from my brother in law and it was sitting for about 3 years when I got it. Since then I have gotten it back into shape and I use it as my daily driver. My second is an 86 Trans Am the I found sitting in the woods behind an elderly ladys home. I was suprised to see that it only had 77000 miles on it. And the body is in good shape but the fuel pump is burnt out in it. It hadnt been on the road since 94. I bought both of them for less than 500 each. I have owned a few F-bodys since I was young and have always loved them. I look forward to talking to you all and sharing info.

Thanks

Josh

When I was about about 9 or 10 years old I use to draw pictures of a sports car, had no idea what kind of car it was or had any idea where I had seen one before. Well.... life as a child went on & I sorta forgot about the car I had always been drawing. Got married, had 4 kids & all the good stuff like that. I have drove a Ford Aerostar, 94 Caravan, Ford Taurus station wagon, Hyundai Sonata, another 94 Caravan, 79 Trans-am (wish I still had btw, long story), Toyota Camry, & now drive 03 Grand Caravan. Well anyway, A few years back I really started thinking about THAT CAR I use to draw all the time. Everytime I saw a third gen pass me on the road, saw one in somones yard being wasted & mistreated rotting away or just for sale somewhere I was fascinated by it. It then hit me where I remembered seeing this car at, MY DRAWINGS. It hit me like a ton of bricks I AM TOO YOUNG TO BE SEEN IN A MINIVAN WHEN I'M NOT HAULING KIDS AROUND. After my 4th & LASTbaby was born I was bound to have one of my own & to make it my own. This past April I bought an 86 on ebay for $300. bucks, but of coarse like alot of others I took the guys WORD on it & bought it before looking at it, they were in Indianapolis & I'm in Tennessee. Well my husband went & picked it up the following weekend & when he got home I started right away disassembling it & was very disapointed. You could just about stand on the ground inside the car. I felt like the Flintstones. Their was so much rust on this thing it wasn't even funny. We didn't mind the "surface" rust he talked about, but was not prepaired for THAT MUCH RUST. We can fix a little rust, but have no idea what we are doing when it comes to that much. Well I wasn't going to give up that easy. The interior was excellent as was alot of other stuff. About 1 month after getting that car home my husband was on his way to work, on a road he drove everyday, & there sat a black 86 way back in someones yard. He said it had a for sale sign taped to the windshield. So I went that same day to go look at it. When I pulled up in the drive an older lady was out in the yard. I told her I was wanting to find out about the Camaro for sale. She said it was her son's he had bought to fix up, but decided he really didn't like Camaros, LUCKY ME! She said it had been sitting there for about 2 years. No one could see it cause she had it for sale in the backyard, duh! I looked it over & it did have some small dents & no motor or tran & the interior was shot. I asked her how much & she said $300. dollars. I went & got the money & bought it about an hour later. This car has maybe 6 inches of rust total. Man I was so excited. I am using all of the interior & good stuff out of the other car, so I will have one good car in the end. I still have to buy stuff like new carpet, headliner & misc. to make it look even better & eventuall get it painted when I get some $. I'm buying the motor from my sisters boyfriend in Florida for a couple hundred bucks. Anyway this is my story on how I got my Third Gen.

Car: '92 Camaro RS
Engine: 305 TBI
Transmission: 700-R4 Vette Servos
i bought an '87 z last june when i graduated for 1500. nice car, just had electrical problems and needed minor body work... i hate people that don't know how to install power seats or audio systems.... wires everywhere... the horror, the horror
that one slammed into the side of a '00 ford f-150 and slightly bent the frame, so insurance totaled it in feb.

so i ran out in april and bought a purple '92 rs with a 305 for 2k.
weak engine, but decent tranny. 700r4 with vette servos, rebuilt in feb

I had no intention of ever owning a thirdgen. I was at Bowling Green (BGSU)visiting a buddie, got hammered and saw some dude in a sweet ram air ls1. Started talking about how i need a firebird because i got long disco hair and aviators. 4 hrs later we got back from a kegger hit up autotrader and the next morning (really like the same day just later in the morning) i was in Michigan and had bought my 88 l98 with just 51k on it for 4g's. Crazy times!

Car: 1986 Pontiac Trans Am
Engine: 350
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 9 bolt/3.27
The first time i bought my car was 2 years ago this month, paid $900. about 2 weeks after i got it i had to replace the alternator, battery, starter, and gave it the full tuneup of wires, cap, rotor, plugs, filters, etc. then i did a coolant as well as a tranny flush. it never ran good, the 305 had a few internal problems that i never could figure out, plus it would randomly die and not start for a few days. it never seamed to run as good as it did the first week i had it. then i sold it march of 2006 for $700 because i needed money for insurance for the truck i had just bought. then about a week ago i was browsing an online bulletin board from back home when i saw it for sale for $1000 with a 350 with a 4 bolt main sitting in the engine bay. sure enough i had to buy it a second time, and now its sitting at my parents farm in wisconsin waiting for me to pick it up in a few weeks.

Car: 1987 IROC-Z Camaro
Engine: L98 5.7L TPI
Transmission: 700-R4
Axle/Gears: 3.27 BW
My car doesn't have an awesome story to go with it, but an awesome drive it does have.
I started out my driving career with a 1992 Ford Taurus Wagon. It had the okay V6, but I ended up totalling that car in a one-man-accident with a curb. I was powersliding around a corner (yes, powersliding a FWD Wagon. I rock. ) and the rear end started creeping towards the curb. I lightly tapped the brakes, locked all four wheels up going sideways @ 45 mph, and slammed the front and back passenger side tires into the curb. The entire steering system, and front suspension was shot, along with major damage to the wheels and possibly a broken axle. My parents were not pleased. We sold it for $20.

My second car was a 1988 Chevrolet Corsica, which I still drive for long distance trips. A mighty tough little car, but it lacked that pep that I desperately needed. At first I was looking into making it peppier, but the biggest engine that I could find that had been put into a Corsica was like, a 3.6, which wasn't really worth losing all of my accesories, so I focused on getting a new car. My grandma had a little Mazda Miata for sale, and then I went on a mad search for Miata's, and decided I wanted a 1996 M-Edition, which I simply could not find with the features I wanted. I gave up on that, and then in a twist of fate, I decided to look for all Chevrolets under 2000 within 150 miles of where I live. And a Camaro showed up in Vegas with T-Tops, power everything, 5.0 (which I was originally looking for, so I could drop a ZZ4 in it using the GM kit which I located parts to), Auto, $1k. I called, and it was sold. I did some research, and decided that I wanted an IROC, and that I wanted an 86 or 87, because it had the 3.27 gears guaranteed. No driving some super distance to find out it wasn't what I wanted. I searched for weeks.

Autotrader left me with one person, had a freshly painted black IROC, but it didn't have T-Tops. I could sacrifice other things, but I can't put T-Tops in by myself, so I decided to look elsewhere. I searched car.com, autotrader, ebay, yahoo cars, everything. Slowly increasing my search range to 300 miles, and eventually hitting the ANY button. I went to Craigslist.com, and I searched EVERY california, arizona, and Nevada listing. I found two or three listings that interested me, one turned out to be mislisted in Cali, so that left two. I did some calling on each, and I never got a call back from one guy, and the other guy talked to me. He was in Salinas, which is quite a drive from northern Arizona (450 Miles). I decided to do it. I had 1500, and borrowed 1600 from my dad, and drove up there with my mom to buy this car. We got there late at night, I took it for a test drive, and I was hooked. Paid for it that night, had to drive 60 miles to get a hotel (Damn you Laguna Seca Grand Prix and all the hotels being booked!!!!) and drove it the rest of the way the next night. Half of the drive I had the T-Tops off, so I was BURNT. But it was worth it. Now the car is my baby, and I have BIG plans for it. It's going to take a lot of my money over time, but that's alright. As long as I'm happy doing it, right?
