How did everyone here get their car?

I don't know if this is really the best place on the site for this, but it is history in the sense that its your cars history. So if everyone would please talk about how they found there car and a little bit about it I think this would be a great thread to read. Thanks in advance to anyone that tells there story.

I started looking in the fall of my Junior year in high school. I really wanted a 4th gen but the 3rd gen was more in my price range, especially for insurance. I really wanted a 5 speed with dual cats so I ended up looking at a ton of cars. 91 TA, 2 87 Irocs, 85 Iroc, 88 Formula, 88 GTA, and a couple more I can't think of right now. So finally, in the spring of my junior year we were camping and I happened to see my Formula in the paper my dad decided to buy one morning. Went down the next weekend, drove it, and bought it. The Merkur I bought exactly a year later. I wasn't even looking for a car but I spotted it at a local car show, decided it would be a great daily driver, and bought it the next day.

The original owner was a member of Paul Newman's/Carl Haas' Indycar race team & the car spent the majority of it's life in California. After migrating to Indianapolis, it was purchased by the 2nd owner (who worked for a competing race team). I purchased it from this guy in August of 2001.

After months of searching for a 4th gen f-body, i finally switched and looked for 3rd-gen. Because one, they were to expensive for the condition i was looking for. Second, i see to many of them around, no originallity to them. And lastly, insurance, right now i pay only $100 every 6 months for my car, cause we got it under classic.

So after searching so many more months for the right one, at autotrader.com i found my car, 1 hour drive away. Went there, saw it, drove it, LOVED IT!!! About 2 weeks later it was in our garage.

First owner was a old guy, who kept in great condition, then the second owner had for very little, he only put in about 1500 miles on it. Now its me, 3rd owner. But next year i'm gonna make sure i have my grand prix insured too, cause i dont like using the TA as a daily driver in the Summer, just something i prefer.

my dream car was always a 82 T/A but could never find one so I gave up and was looking at a 93 grand prix than I spotted it sitting behind the dealership and asked about it, they told me it didnt run so I asked if I could go see it, they said yes!!! so I went to look at it and opened the hood it was NASTY but complete so I used a screwdriver to open the throttle blades and found they were stuck shut after I got them opened it started right up. I asked how long they had had it for and was told it had been sitting back there for about 6 years and they had recently put fresh gas in it in an attempt to get it to start with no luck so I bought the car $1000 with minor rust and no damage it was a good deal I drove it for about 1 year with no problems before tearing it appart.

oh and this is how I learned it was BAD to buy a car with out asking the GF she was impressed that I bought something that ran but pissed that I just bought a car and she had no Idea (she though I was just looking for future plans) hehehe

I bought my 1986 Iroc with the motor out of it. (cracked head) It was originally a California car so the body was excellant with no rust anywhere. I rebuilt the 406 and made quite a few mods to it since and hopefully next year it is ready for a full season at the track.

I always loved TA's especial after seeing Smoky & the Bandit as a kid. I got my first TA at the age of 18. It was a 1980 Turbo TA in good condition. I beat the crap out of it & blew the engine & trany. What did I know I was 18. As I got older I also wanted another one but the imported cars(toyota celicas) were better more reilable daily drivers.

So after many years I decided to get my classic car. I looked & looked & looked for late 1970's TA but could find an excellent orginal one, so I looked at 1990's. I found an mint 1991 TA Convertible on cars.com in Delaware. I took a ride from NY & fell in love. I never realized the beauty of the wierd looking bird. The nose & ground effects make this car look so orginal than any other car thats ever been on the road. 1 of 555. It is a peice of art right out of a sceince fiction movie. And my wife just pointed out that the new Corvette nose looks like the 91-92 nose!

And then...........I heard of another............................THE 1989 TURBO TRANS AM. I always liked the 97-90 GTA'S. I liked the color coated grounds effects, rims & the GTA emblems. While I was researching GTA I found out about a very special GTA & the most special TA ever built. I was so amazed by the handling & performance of this 89 . And this performance even holds up to todays cars that I knew I had to have it. So I looked on the internet and finally found one for about 10k on classiccars.com in Pennsylvana & never looked back.

I would also love to have a 1984 Ann. & 1979 Bandit but w/ 2 allready I will have to stop. But someday................

I walked in a chevy dealership and ordered a new '92 Z28 with L98 exactly how I wanted it-I WISH!!!

Nope. Wanted a '91 or '92 bad since 1990. Took me more than 4 years to finally get my '92 RS LO3 then with 34,000 miles. I wanted one new SO bad but certainly couldn't afford one. 4th gens came out in '93 but a new Z28 was more than I could afford, wouldn't settle for a 6cyl, and I preferred the '92s anyway. Couldn't find a '91 or '92 Z28, Formula, or T/A, so ended up with a nice RS in 1994.

The fourth gens are faster but my the georgious '92s still hold a special place in my heart. Wish they wouldn't have cancelled the plans for the 270 hp 6 speed versions.

I still hope to someday get a '92 Z28 with L98- either med quasar blue, red with black stripes, or white with red stripes.

I bought mine from a man who bit off more than he could chew. Car had water in the crank case and needed a rebuild as well as a good cleaning. I paid $700 for it and approx. $1400 later she is running and I am trying to work all the bugs out of it from the 2 yrs that it sat with the TPI sitting in the trunk.
The car has alot of options:
ps
pdl
pwr mirrors
pwr seat
Bose sound system
t-tops
power hatch
tilt
cruise
5spd
posi rear end
alumnium (sp?) drive shaft
cloth gray seats
split rear seats
alumnium spare
16" iroc rims
rear louvers
I also found the owners manual and the sales receipt from where it was bought new and the origional owners name.

Had a 84? Regal that crapped out on me one night coming home from work. Went shopping the next day, saw a 89 RS 5.0TBI T-Top, paid cash for it.

Drove it for year, ran up on a 87 IROC, yellow, 5.0 TPI, T-Tops, loaded, in the paper not running. Bought it for $400, put a fuel pump in, rebuilt the front susp, drove it a couple months and spun a rod bearing due to "spirited" cornering. Found a black 88 IROC 5.7 TPI loaded T-Top car for $3100, less than I could have gotten a good engine for the yellow one for. Drove it for 2 years or so, kid pulled out in front of me, totalled it, I took a shutdown job in Nashville, went there with no car. Looked in the paper every day, was going to get a 85 SS Monte to get me home, the guy sold it before I could get there. 3 days before the end of the job, a 89 IROC vert came out in the paper. I called immediately, looked at it by flashlite in the motel parking lot that nite. Earlied out of work that Friday, paid $4500 cash for it, changed the oil and lubed it, drove it home the next day. I still own the 89 RS, the black 88, and the vert. The yellow 87 I stripped, have most everything but the shell. Wish I still had that! And soon will be looking for another to put all these parts on.

i always wanted an iroc. they were built when i was still riding a bike so i new one wasn't an option. i bought my 89 iroc last year for a lady in idaho. she said she bought it at a local dealer in 95 with only 25,000 miles on it. it was her divorce present to herself. while i was in spokane visiting relative, i saw the ad in the paper. i drove down to idaho and bought it for 3300. she wanted to buy a harley. i got a nice ride.

My first 3rd-gen, an 85 Z28, I saw sitting for sale on a side street on my way to work. I was the third owner.

While I owned that car, my neighbor's son had an 87 Iroc, it was in a lot nicer shape than my Z28. I told him if he ever wanted to sell it let me know. He did not live at home any more, and I never heard anything from him.

One day i saw an 87 Iroc for sale in the newspaper and went to go look at it. Well it was the neighbor's son's car. So i bought it just like I said I would. I'm the third owner of this car also.

I sold the 85 to a fellow member of this site.

My first car was a 66 mustang and was the only ford i will EVER drive. It crapped out one day and i didn't have the energy to fix it... dumb mistake. But it turned out for the better. I had a guy GIVE me the 85 Berlinetta in my sig, the only thing wrong with it is a rod knockin. Only has about 95000 miles on it. Went to get the title for it and the previous owner who had the title, actually about 5 owners back, could not be found. The car still sits in my driveway waiting for a title and a rebuild. Damn thing even has all the factory stickers and stuff. I ended up with a POS ford pickup. Got tired of driving it, so i got a job and bought the 91 RS in my sig. I can't even begin to describe the cars condition. Steel belts were showin on the tires, two electronic sensors were MISSING completely, no headliner, seats with a couple rips, blue paint thats faded into about 6 or 7 different shades. In the throws of youthful enthusiasm, or stupidity, whichever you prefer, i decided i needed a "project". 2 years later im still working on the bugs but im getting her there. In about another 1.5 years, she'll be one of the prettiest thirdgens out there. just need the time but mostly i need pictures of dead presidents.

I spent about 5-6 months looking for a car. what i wanted was simple IROC w/350 and T-tops
little did i know those cars while not rare are not easy to come buy. The first car i looked at was a 88 350 with t-tops and 65K miles, beutiful car, almost bought it, but my mecanic said to pass on it because the engine was leaking antifreeze.
kept seeing this black 88 305 with 28,000 miles in autotrader the whole time, and not at a bad price ether. well i got fed up will trying to find a car and drove 150 miles to look at the low mile car. I fell in love and did two more trips that week and sealed the deal.
Bad part because of an unnamed quick oil place my original 305 went the way of the junkyard, now I have what i wanted to begin with a 350 w/ T-tops.
later

after turning 16 i wanted a firebird or camaro. we where looking for a while and finally found one. it was a bit out of our price range at that time. they where asking $4800 but we talked them downt to $4400. it was the original owner, older lady who just drove to thier other house somewhere. luckily they had it repainted about a year ago and had only driven it 1000 miles in the last year. too bad now i want to sell it and get a 4th gen. the good thing is that its probably worth somewhere from 5500-6000.

My Dad found out about the 85 in my sig back in March of 98 when my Aspen wagon lunched its second transmission. He said I should buy it and being that I had no time to look on my own I took his advice. Provided me with relatively trouble free driving. Now its for sale

I picked up the 83 for $300 because the 85 was too damn reliable and I wanted to turn a wrench again. Bought it in November of 98. Spent three years getting the bugs worked out of my first motor swap and got her tagged in April of 2002. I drive it daily.

Picked up the 86 because it had T-tops and was so friggin cheap ($250). It has received a new motor and after the 85 is sold, I'll work on getting this one tagged.

Well, I wanted either a third gen camaro or a late 2nd gen trans am. My parents frowned on me getting an 8 cylinder for my first car so they said I should look more for a 6 cylinder. They offered to pay half for my first car, and I found an 84 Camaro ZF with a blown 2.8 for 200 bucks in decent shape with a set of cragars. That car has had EVERYTHING replaced by now. I bought it cheap so I could buy a boat too. I did, I bought a bass tracker with the cash I had left over.

Learning fast the 2.8 is not a powerhouse of a motor, I needed a car with more power to tow my boat (thats what i told mommy) and then I talked with my father, and after proving myself with no tickets, he said, yeah if you find a good deal on a project car, we could get it. Well, there was this beat looking red trans am on a side road that had been for sale for a year. I recommended it to a friend to buy to last him, as I assumed it ran for the asking price of 500. Well, we took a look at it and decided to offer 300 for it. We were looking at it, it wouldnt start (timing chain slipped off gears), and the guy said flat out "250 bucks if you get it off my lawn." We bought it then and towed it to the house the next day. The story behind it is the guys son bought it and the father immediately said no way and made him put it up for sale. Well, being that no one took care of it, the windshield got shot, and there were quite a few dents on it. We also found a needle in the console. Car did a major transformation this past winter (hence my name 84TAProject) with a motor swap and a paint job, both done by me and my father (I did most of the body filler and minor accessory bolting on, he handled the difficult stuff like motor mounts and the transmission bolts.) When those who saw it before saw it, after I finished it, they thought it was a new car I bought. Im like, no it was the red one. They didnt beleive me the so called "piece" turned into what it has become.

I have had so many that i don't know what one to write about. I just found pictures of my first three thirdgens so i will write about them.

#1. I had owned nothing newer then 1972. I loved GM Muscle cars and owned a few in high school, some of them included. A 1971 SS 454 Chevelle, 1969 GTO 400 4-speed, 1969 Camaro SS 350. Just after High School a local kid called me on the phone and said he heard I liked GM Muscle Cars. He just happened to have an 87 Iroc-Z that died on the side of the road. If I would tow it away so the cops would get off him, I could have it for a 1,000. This was in 95 and an 87 was almost a new car in my book. I actually thought about it for a few hours before buying it. It was newer then 72 and I felt like I was selling my sole if i bought it. The car was a Bright Red 1987 Iroc-Z with 5.0TPI and 5-speed and performance rear axle. That was it no 4-wheel disk brakes, no power anything, no t-tops, no a/c, standard black interior. The car had nothing but what you need to go fast in 87. A TPI, 5-speed and Performance rear axle. I had faster cars but the Z was just awsome fun, handled great and actually had gas mileage. It ran a 13.87 with some fine tunning but no performance parts, but then again the car had no options to make it slow. I was hooked on thirdgens.

#2 I sold the 87 Iroc-Z after the first snow, thirdgens suck in the snow. I then went looking for another Iroc-Z this time I wanted t-tops and at least power windows. I ended up with a black 88 Iroc-Z. 5.0 TPI, Auto, Loaded with power options, T-tops. It looked good and t-tops changed my life but the 5.0 TPI Auto combo just didn't do it in the performance department. I sold it a few months later for third gen #3. Five years after selling the 88Iroc-Z I was given the car back to me for free from a different owner. Its now a parts car but complete and runs.

#3 My third thirdgen I found in the local want ad. It was a nice 1985 Trans Am Convert. Every one wants a convert and if t-tops are good then this would be better. The car looked great but ran like hell. I picked it up cheap and found the left injector bank fuse was blown. I replaced the fuse and she ran great. It was a 5.0 TPI, Auto with shift kit, 4-wheel disk rear, Recaro Seats WS6 and loaded. This car was a lot faster then the black 88 Iroc and had everything you could get in 85. The car turned lots of heads and I was asked lots of questions. I ended up selling it because I was moving, that was the end of #3.

I found a picture of the T/A today so check it out. I could go on and keep writing about all my third gens but that could take a long time. Today we have 17 of them so just that could take an essay to tell, don't worry I won't write any more.

85 fb - my first car was a 1989 grand am 2.5L I4 I bought in 1993, and even though it was anemic at times, it sparked the PMD interest in me early on. Several years later I was fixated on getting a third gen firebird and preferably an early one and a cheap one. I saw the 85 bird in the local classifieds and got hooked. Next day I test drove it at the seller's house and put in a $300 deposit. next day paid off the balance & it was mine, and still my daily driver to this day.

83 firebird S/E (not listed) - saw it on ebay for super cheap. located in Mississippi. a friend & I went to get it and bought strictly for resale. drove it a few months and sold for nice little chunk of $ profit.

84 firebird S/E - saw 84 firebird in local classifieds, called for VIN, and when I heard "1G2AX" I knew I had an S/E so I had to go check it out at all costs. turned out to be in awesome shape for a cheap price. couple of days later it was mine. I sold it about 6 months later but have since repossessed it due to deadbeat buyer.. he also ran it into the ground and it's now sitting idle not going anywhere and needs major work... sigh

82 recaro t/a - saw on autotrader.com and was hooked, as I had been looking for one for quite a while and it sounded totally mint w/ super low miles. It was located in NY about 10 hours from me. Happened to be there with a friend in early 2001 for other reasons so we decided to stop by & see it. was missing original wheels but otherwise looked all mint. about a month later I worked out a deal w/ the seller and me & my sister drove up with an expedition & u-haul trailer & hauled it back home. For a 3k-mile car it had a couple of minor issues but it's awesome.

also owned a 78 chevy caprice 2-door landau coupe one time. bought strictly for resale. got sort of attached to it and missed it a lot when i finally did sell it.

when i was 15 i bought my first vehicle a 1974 international scout 2 that was actually in good shape for 500$ the only thing it needed was a little freshening on the top end, so my dad helped me tear apart the top end and rebuilt the heads and stuff, about a month after that was done i sold it for 1600, bought an 85 k5 blazer that just needed cleaning and a new carb for 1000$ cleaned that up and drove it for a while then i saw the my current car sittin on the corner for sale and it was love at first sight, stopped to look at it called my dad and told him to come look at it and he said if i get could get the money i could buy it, well an hour later i come home and drop 3gs on the counter, it took me literally 45 min to sell my blazer, bought the z for 2400 couple months later pulled the motor and found out it was a 350, rebuilt the motor and now im 17 and this one is currently for sale so i can get a 4th gen lt1 car...

Car: currently thirdgenless!!!
I was looking on the internet for a new car and saw a few 3rd gens that looked great. So I started to look only at 3rg gens. Looked for about a month and saw a '92 RS outside of Columbus Ohio with only 32,000 miles on it. I flew from Phoenix to Columbus to take a look at it. I like what I saw and we agreed on a price of $8500. I then drove the car from Columbus to Lockport, ILL (just SE of Chicago). Stayed with a buddy for a day and then drove from Lockport to Phoenix non stop in 28 hours. It was a rough road trip but I got what I wanted out of it. And I got 29 mpg on the trip doing mostly 75 - 80 mph.

And here is a picture of her as she sits outside my house in Phoenix.

Car: '84 Z28
Engine: L69

1st. Camaro was an '86 Z28. After looking for about a year for a hardtop '84 H.O. Z28 I found an '86 hardtop LG4 Charcoal Z28 in the paper sitting on a used lot of a Volvo dealership. Interior was very clean and had 53K mi. This was in Feb. 1991. While waiting for my parents to get back from vacation so they could cosign for me the price came down. Car had been sitting since last December and they needed to move it. I ended up buying it without a cosigner and drove it for three years, sold it for a down payment on my first house.

Second Camaro I bought is the '84 H.O. Z28 hardtop car I had been searching for originally. After seeing a very used white '84 LG4 Z28 on a local used lot I liked the white with charcoal color combination. I thought it looked good and thought if I ever find an '84 H.O. car like this I'll buy it. This was Nov. '94 and I started buying the stripes for a future resto project. Half of the stripes were already discontinued and I found them at various dealerships across the country and put them away. Dec. 1996 I found a white '84 H.O. hardtop Z28 locally. I looked at the car right before Christmas but waited until after the holidays to see if the car was still available. It was, so Jan. 27, 1997 I bought the car and three years later it's showroom perfect.

Car: 1983 Camaro "SC-350"
Engine: Mild 350 4-bolt
Transmission: 700R4 w/ TCI Stall
Ok, My bro used to sell Third-Gen parts on ebay. He bought parts cars to part out. One day he got an 1983 Camaro Sport Coupe (read sig) for $100 and said he was gonna part it out. I said no way, it was way to good of a body, was in way to nice condition to part out, and was optioned fairly well (see sig). So, I paid him back $100 over time. Now it sits waiting for a transmission so I can put the built 350 in (read sig).

Car: 1991 Z28 Camaro

My first Camaro was bought for me by my Mom and Dad when I was 17. It was a 1984 Z28 Camaro High Output with power everything and the L69 package.....it was a piece when I got it...picked it up for $1200.00. So....I decided to fix it up. I ended up putting over $8000.00 in it. I redone the whole car....and made it as a 1991-1992 Z28....all the gorund effects, foglights, bowtie grill, Aero Spoiler, and an ASCD Big Block hood. It was one bad *** car! The second day I had it all done....and 83 year old lady rearended me....and now it's completely destroyed.....frame is bent and all...and I'm left with a permanent back injury. So.....now it was time to get another car. So.....I had my mind set on a 1991 or 1992 Z28 5.7 TPI (L98) black, with power everything. Around here in Indiana....the 91-92 Z28s are like one of the hardest cars to find...so...I went on the internet and looked around. I found the most perfect one!! It's a black 1991 Z28 5.7 TPI (L98) with power everything....perfect shape with only 79,000 miles on it. So....we drove to Chicago and picked it up for $5500.00. I just put an ASCD SS hood on it, and I have some major plans for this car when I get the money for my back injury and everything. I love this car, but....not as much as my old 84....because...I put all of my time, money....and care in the 84. But....I have the 91 Z now....so....it's time to create another monster!

After unsuccessful experiments with two Fords and a Toyota Supra, I finally returned to the childhood dream of owning a Camaro this past April. I was actually on my way to look at a 4th gen T/A when I saw my car; 1987 Z28 black w/ gold trim. All option car (even has that funny looking roof console) and most importantly, T-tops. It has augmeted my life in undescribable ways. All is well in my little corner of the universe.

Growing up, my grandfather (also known as my pops) drove a 1979 black Z28. It had tan leather interior, and a great body. I always had this crazy idea that after my 16th b-day I'd get his car. Well he sold it, about 3 months after I tunred 16. He mentioned to me that if he'd had thought about it he'd have just GIVEN it to me. Ofcourse, I was crushed, but knew exactly what I wanted for my muscle car. I began looking for a 2nd gen, thinking I'd find one that looked just like his. With little effort I began to find tons of camaros for sale. I think once you decide on what you want, they become easier to spot. Well I couldn't find the match, I was looking for the one my pops sold so I could get it back. Came to find out that the kid that bought it off of him had totalled it about 2 weeks after buying it.
I had seen a few 3rd gens for sale and really liked the look. I remembered watching nightrider and thought it'd be cool to have a black TA. I found one in Kokamo for only $1500!~!!! I called the day I saw the add, and the guy wasn't home. I left my number with his daughter and told her to have him call me as soon as he got home. I talked to my dad (being only 16) about it, and he said if it was there he'd help me with getting a loan out. Well the guy called me back after about an hour, and told me that he just sold it to a guy down the street. So I continued my search for a 3rd gen. I spoke with my mom and stepfather about maybe a loan through them, because they wanted me to have a car to get to work ( I was working for them) We went to look at a Chevy S-10 for $1500. When we pulled into the driveway, I saw the most beautiful thing in the world. It was an 85 Firebird, it had been restored and modified. It was purple with a mean greenish yellow strip job. Had never seen anything like it before. My mom looked at me when I asked about it and said there was no way she was going to see her boy killed in a car accident. I beeged and begged, but with no such luck. They ended up giving me thier Dodge Caravan as a "begginner car". So I drove that. I went trough 3 other vehicles before I found her. While out at lunch with my best friend, we saw a 91 RS sitting at a dealership for $5500. We went and had a look, just to check it out. I went home that nite and spoke with my dad about it. He told me that I'd have to find out about insurace and about a loan, then we could talk. So I called around and found out all the info, and told him. We went and took it for a test drive, ofcourse he got to drive it first, making me ride bi$%h. He said that the brakes were gonna need changing, and that it didn't feel like it was riding right (keep in mind my dad doesn't know a thing about cars) He let me drive it back to the lot, where we told the dealer we'd call in a few days. After about a week I stopped back by to check on her, she was gone. I later came to find out that she was sold that very day for 4500 cash, to a kid in town. I did some asking around and found out that the car had accutally belonged to my friends brother, and that he had been the 2nd owner. Most of the miles were highway, and he had taken very good care of the car. After 6 months of wait, the kid that bought it wanted to sell it and get a truck. I asked how much and he told me he wanted $5k. I laughed and told him no way, that I'd give him $4k none more. Well after a long week of offers, I told him $4500 and that would be it. ( I wanted it bad) So we settled on that, and I got my 3rd gen. She sits in the front drive today, waiting on a storage bin for the winter. She was just broken into last week, so she's not leaving the house the rest of the year, seeing as how I have to replace the locks now. She's a great car, she took a beating with the kid that had her before me, but being the 4th owner, I've got big plans. My only problem is (and I don't know if anyone else has this) I can't keep a girl because they always get mad at me for spending more time with my car than I do with them. That's my story.

I have that cliche story of actually finding my car sitting for sale in a field ... really. The couple who had it for sale had recently gotten married and the wife's dad had given them a new Dodge Laser, so they decided to sell the husbands Camaro. He wasn't too happy about, but at the time, the Dodge was newer and more reliable (right!).

The Z, only 5 years old at the time, was really in pretty sad shape. Rust all over the doors and lower quarters, clutch was shot, tires were bald, rear axle-shaft was bent, various other things were wrong, but it was mine! Took some time and money, but my dad and I tured it in to something nice to drive. Kinda wish I still had it, but as I mentioned in another post, the rust was ultimately going to win the battle so I sold the car in '93.

My story is pretty simple. My oldest brother was the second owner, and had a kid on the way (today is my niece's one year birthday actually). It was either sell it to me and keep it in the family or trade it in at the dealer towards a more family-oriented car (and probably get next to nothing for it). So, early September 2001, I picked up my '90 GTA. The damned thing turned out to need a lot more work than I had thought (ugly rust spots, every part of the cooling system failed, etc...) but I'm pretty happy with how its turning out so far.

Camaro #1
Having just sold my 1977 T/A in the UK in 1994, I phoned the shop that used to get all my parts and he said he had a 1986 SC camaro with the 5 Litre V8 in it and 700R4 trans and T/Tops and he was desperate to get rid of it. (Getting in the way). Turned out that it belonged to a lady who used to live in Sacramento in CA until she (and her family) moved her home and business to the UK (Humberside). She then found out it was too big for the roads here and sold it to this garage. I went to have a look (with my girlfriend) and bought it there and then for $3500. Full service history as well. Unfortunately it was white with a brown interior! 8 years later, the car is still with us, my girlfriend is now my Wife, the SC is now red with a custom red and black interior, and my first kiddie (5 yrs old now), wants to drive it!

Camaro #2 (photo below)
Phoned the same shop up in December 2001 to order some parts for the camaro above, and he said he had a 1991 RS with 350 in it sat behind their shop. What he didn't say was that it had a crank that was bust in 4 places, no trans (he had used it for a Cobra kit car for a customer), no seats, nicked wheels and tyres and accident damage on the front right corner! But he only wanted $450 for it! So I went to have a look and it. It looked really sad, with the windows open and ice inside and out. I had to put some wheels on it, laying on a car park floor with half an inch of ice everywhere. Needless to say, I bought it and dragged it out with a fork lift! It now has a 1977 350 in it and a T5 trans and is just about to hit the road for the first time! Now my next kid is due! 2 Camaros, 2 kids! Is there a link here? they aren't THAT comfortable (are they?!).

The next time I phone my shop for parts I bet he tries to sell me another one! But my Wife doesn't want a third kid!! Luckily, neither do I!! But,........................................... a 1991/2 convert sounds tempting! "What did you say my lovely Wife?"........................................................................ "No more?" "But, we could go topless this time?"......................."Ouch".........

to be continued.

Andy.

Car: '84 Trans Am Recaro Edition
Engine: L69 305 H.O.
Transmission: 700-R4
'84 Trans-Am was my dream car for 18 years.I was living in Turkey so i didn't had the chance to get one.I was big fan of Muscle cars. When i first got to Canada 3 years ago for my wife's school i went crazy. My first car was '84 Firebird S/E V6 with T-Tops.I didn't want to drive V8 right away and i wanted to have some experience on f-bodies.Then 1 month later i was pushing V6 so hard i blew the engine on the highway. Then i've got myself 86 Camaro RS V6 with t-tops.This time it took me 2 months to blew the engine.I did an engine swap but the car was not the same.I had bunch of problems with the new engine so i've sold the car. Then i've got myself '88 Camaro RS V6 with hard top. That car was pretty good but all this time i was looking for a '84 trans-am.Everyday i was checking the web pages and stuff. One day i saw my '84 Recaro on a web page in the middle of the night(price was $1300 can i thought the guy was out of his mind).I've got the adress from the web page i went there in the middle of the night and checked the car.Right away i fell in love with it.I saw the recaro seats and i started to flip out.Next day i was there again checking the car. When i was checking the car the guy realized that the car was T/A.He told me if i won't buy the car he's gonna raise the price.I told him i'll trade my camaro+$300 for the car and he accepted. One day later i went there to buy the car and the price was raised to $2750 can. (still it was cheap in my opinion.).But he kept his promise and sold me the car.Later because of the recaro seats i did a research then found out that the car was real Recaro edition. And still i have the same car(i never had the same car more than 3-4 months here in canada and i have this car more then 6 months now)and i wish i'll have the car until i die (i wish i'll die in it and they'll bury me with it).

Here's a list of cars that i owned here in canada in 3 years :

1.'84 Firebird S/E
2.'86 Camaro RS
3.'90 Grand Prix SE (that car was pretty good for a FWD)
4.'91 Thunderbird SC (let's not talk about this)
5.'91 Eagle Talon 4x4 (Now that car was crap)
6.'88 Camaro RS
7.'84 Trans-Am

I bought my 92 RS new in January 92. I still have the window sticker. Actually, I bought a used 90 RS, and after having the car for a few days, the dealership called and said they couldn't get the financing approved and I'd have to bring it back. After I got there, they tried to sell me something else, but I told them I knew what I wanted (this was an Olds/GMC dealership).
They finally said they might be able to get me a new one and use the rebate for part of the down payment, so they started calling Chevy dealerships in the area.I told them I wanted Silver, White or Black. Bought the car without seeing it. When I picked it up a the Chevy dealership it was Gray/Green Metallic (18U).
It has 230,000 miles now, with new 300 HP 350, installed last Dec. Still my daily driver.
Other F-body's I've owned:
67 RS Powerglide(Pro-Gas w/glass front end)
68 SS 350 Automatic (high school car)
70 SS/RS 396,4 speed (wish I still had this one)

well it all started out w/ me buying my very first car which was an 87 firebird. It was an ok car it had high miles and a little bit of rust.

While still owning the bird I bought an 85 Camaro for 100 bucks cause the 2.8 pooped out in my bird. I bought the Camaro as a parts car which gave me a great interior & motor. Still a 2.8 but oh well. Then I just gave the Camaro away to a friend down the road.

Then that winter I bought a 85 Berlinetta Camaro w/ a 305 w/ high miles. I bought it just cause I had the money and it had a bigger motor than my bird. I was goin to restore it but my brother borrowed it for a bit cause his car broke down. One day he was out beating on it and some how got the rear end to lock up so he left it in a neighborhood. Well the residents werent to happy w/ that so they called the cops and had it impounded. Well I found out 2 days later that it was in there and I had no money. It would have cost 350 bucks to get it out. thats more than I paid for the car so I just left it there.

After that ordeal summer of 2002 came around and I was drivin' the bird and one night in may, my g/f and I were being dumb and bombing up and down roads. Well the moron that I am pulled out in front of her trying to pass her while she is turning. So after that and a smashed in door and fender I still drove it till the motor pooped out again.

So unable to go any where cause of a blowen up car I started looking around for another 3rd. gen and found a 89 RS w/ yet another disappointing 2.8 for $880... but it ran and got me around. It was the cleanest of the previous cars w/ very minimal rust. Now I dorve that until I found the love of my life...:hail:

One day I was looking just for fun on carsoup and looked under Camaros under $2000 Well it came up w/ 3 cars one for $2000 another for like $1500 and one for &800... well suprised at the 800 dollar one I read about it and it just floored me on what this car had. The description read as follows "Very clean car w/ minor dent to fender but still drivable. Hard to start but when starts runs like a dream. 81,000 miles." WOW so I went and looked at it and was impressed w/ what I found, but it wouldnt start. So I went home and thought about it. That same day I called him back and told him I'm buying it. Turns out it was an 86 IROC-Z w/ A TPI 305 w/ 4 wheel disc brakes, power everything, and it had a 83 cross fire injection hood w/ the hood flappers..well I rigged up a toggle switch to flip up the hood flaps to blow cool air into the engine compartment.

So I'll I did was towed it back to my house and poped a new starter in there and she fired right up and eversince then she has purred like a kitten.

I was just wondering if you have any pictures of that last car you talked about? I have never seen a crossfire hood with flaps.

I was getting my license in a month and I wanted a sports car to be my first car. I was looking for a camaro (any year), and some others I won't bother to mention. The only one I found that had any potential was an '87 sport coupe. It needed a bunch of work including cleaning it since it had been under a pine tree for 2 1/2 years and also the transmission was gone. Well the money wasn't coming in fast enough to fix it and I wasn't too crazy about the looks of a SC, so I started looking for a '91-'92 Z28 or RS. I also wanted it to have an 8 cylinder so my search took awhile, but eventually my uncle found me one way up in northern maine and he said it would be worth the drive. He wasn't kidding. I sold my SC for $300 and got the RS for $1500.

My IROC was in a accident so the owner put an 83 cross fire injection hood "flapper hood" on it plus the front fasica and air dam. as seen here----

I started looking for a thirdgen t/a after selling my first 86 t/a that I bought on a whim I saw it on the way home from class liked it and we bought it for my wife to drive fights ensued as I tried to take over the t/a then money got tight and away the t/a went 3 years later I tried to purchase an identical car except it needed a large amount of work for $600 but the guy got $200 from me and disapeared leaving me with a car but no title eventually the city towed it away and my t/a dreams were on hold once again until this feb when I found my 85 t/a and fell in love at first sight paid cash the next day and have been making her the way I wanted ever since while still driving her to work daily and to the track once a week
