i may have a line on a numbers matching, one owner 83 Z28. it is a very nice car and very well preserved with tons of documentation, right down to teh original window sticker and purchase agreement.
i was wondering if anyone knows of a show that could do a perfect resto fo teh car to showroom condition(a paint dab level resto).

Halton Hills, which is right near Milton, Ontario, is a nice place and that shop has a very good reputation. it even has a show on speedvision. i have near been to their shop, but after seeing the website and all the cars on display i believe i will be making a trip down there sometime soon. i didnt realize the shop was in milton till i saw the website; i knew it was in the Toronto area, but i didnt realize just where it was. the other benefit is that you make US dollars and the shop is located in Canada. the Canadian dollar is worth about 62 cents american...making thing alot cheaper up here for you fellas.

Concourse restorations, WOW those are very very expensive, the good shops will use a rotisory (spelling) which can spin the car around. I couldn't imagine the cost, but I would think at least 20K, probably more.

I'd guess more like $40K. I mean you have to go through and re-finish every nut and bolt and rebuild everything. The parts wouldn't be too bad but the labor would be KILLER...

Yeah, I guess that is probably a better estimate, I would like to do the same for mine in a few years.

Legendary Motor Cars is the place for sure. It's outside Toronto.
I guess you should specify how much you have to spend.
LMC only does top notch work. Big dollars.
Incidentaly, LMC moved last year to a new facility. State of the art and huge. Our Camaro club is having a tour there soon.
A few months ago LMC had a mint 79 Firebird for sale there.
If it were a Camaro I'd look closer at it. Still loved it though.
I have a pic if anyone's interested.

Concours restoration on a thirdgen? Hmm.. count me in as a skeptic.

First of all, the vast majority of common model thirdgens are so BADLY documented, it's not even funny. The first thing people do when they need a part is hit the junkyard and pull that part from any other thirdgen available, then they sell the car years later and claim it to be "original" even if that part is totally wrong, and the snowball grows from there. The only trustworthy info is the info that came out at the time of the cars were built, and even a lot of that is nonexistent or wrong from the start.

Only the cars with a vast following are even close to having good documentation. Even then, there's so much mis-information / mixing / overlapping / generalizing like I said above, when it comes to finding which car came with what parts, what year, etc, people just find something "close enough". I can't picture LMC or anyone else taking the time to look up TSB's and mid-year changes and stuff like that for a thirdgen.

I'm sure a TTA or Firehawk (for examples) will be 100% restorable for decades to come, but I'd like to see a totally obscure and unpopular car like an 82 Recaro T/A (for example) with tons of long-since-obsolete one-year parts restored to concours.. just don't see it happening for ANY price.

Not to mention, where are you gonna find all those fragile little broadcast stickers all over the place, door jamb stickers, replacement for rusted out VIN plate, etc.?

If someone can overcome all those obstacles, I'd love to see a "before & after" thirdgen.. GT

Yes Smallwood, the Silver one.
I actually saw it at the semi-annual auction here in Oct. (No sale)
Really nice, only 26000km (maybe 15000mi).
No T-roof but otherwise loaded I recall.

That is what the restoration places get all that money for is to find the hard to get stuff, for 30-40K, they better.
