The History Channels "Fool Throttle" show does 3rd gens?!?!

It is partly a show about vehicle history and partly a reality show about a major/minor car thrash to make more power on said vehicle. The show ends with a trip to the track, in the cases so far a drag stripwhere the winning eam gets to keep both vehicles!

description from the site:

History heads out on the drag strip as classic cars are transformed into fine tuned machines, revamped and ready for the speedway. The series, hosted by turbo twins Marc and Eric Kozeluh, combines reality, renovation and competition to create a fascinating hour-long program that brings the classics to the contemporary.

Part reality show, part history, FULL THROTTLE gives car lovers the chance to ride into history. Two teams are each given the same model of a classic car in similar disrepair. Supplied with a garage, tools and parts, they've got two days to get their wheels high performance as they prepare to compete in an all-or-nothing drag race. The winner drives away in both cars; the loser walks away empty-handed

future show schedule

remember each show is run several times each month

Here is the thirdgen kicker, the teaser for the show, the commercial for the show if you will shows the team leaders and teams standing in front of two nice 3rd gen rides. Think they are just messing with us?

It will be interesting to see if they do a third gen. Obviously they thought enough of them to use them in their promo comercials. That does mean something.

The link only shows the episodes coming in the month.

I been thinking maybe those thirdgens could belong to staff of the show, the shop they are using, or the two twin brothers that run the show. "Hey we need to make a commercial, we need two of the same kind of cars, what can we use?"

I still have faith that they are for an upcoming show because the "trailer/commercial" shows the two teams getting pep talks from their respective twin brother "team leader".

If anyone gets any info, let me know.

Maybe they have seen the error of their ways and are trying to make it right.

they seem a little more sincere in this show. During the 240Z hop-up in this episode some guy tries to go into one of their tool boxes without asking and the twin gets kinda pissed off.

I predict the show will last all of about 2 more episodes. I watched the sneak preview of it hoping that the third gens would be on, but it was the 240z's...ended up watching the entire thing.

It's pretty dumb...MSD was probably their biggest advertisers. Their mods to "increase horsepower" were cam, headers, cat-back, and an MSD....in fact they said they claimed that the best way of increasing horsepower was to put a cam in it....hmm? Really? I thought it was a set of nice heads and a well matched setup. (Did you notice how they dyno'ed the cars at the begining...but never at the end.....hmmm....I wonder why)

I would have loved to see them do something other than installing valve springs and welding the exhaust....like maybe porting their heads and intake, doing suspension work.....or how about WEIGHT REMOVAL....Give me two days and I bet I could have won both sets of car with just weight removal alone.

I think the fastest they went was 17's...They should have done the thirdgens in their first episode so they would have maybe broken into the 14's an been a little more exciting.

Two thumbs down, it's a shame they had to ruin an awesome idea for a show.....but if anyone does know when the Camaro's will air...that'll be the only other episode of this joke I will watch.

I know that at the end of the episodes as well as other history channel shows you can buy a copy of a show for $24.95 I for one would be all over that.

Last night's episode isn't getting so great reviews either. MSD again reared its ugly head on a car that clearly doesn't need it. They pretty much skipped the basics and modded a car that was already broken too.

I dont care, I know they will get weak performance from the 3rd gens if done, just consider the history footage and info though!

dunno bout it

I watched Pimp my Ride on MTV with the blacksecond gen Bird getting made over.. It's a bit 'whack' as they say, but still interesting. I think alot of these can fail on some cylinders. I don't have cable and I would assume some outside the States don't have shows like these either. We need way more and more coverage of what people who trust in mechanics can take away as increased useful knowledge. Shows like Shadetree mechanic I used to watch and PBS' Motorweek were generally pretty good but due to time constraints could never really get to some great stuff. The chopper bike shows are interestingly presented but FAR too numerous. We need free TV car shows that do more then highlight current models stock. Are ya with me!?!

Used to watch those shows, Sunday on TNN originally, never miss one. Then they went to the format of "installing expensive parts" and no real repair or hop up info. Now pretty much a waste to watch $100,000 car tests and such. Rather sit in the garage and wax my lugnuts.

Who knows guys, maybe they were at 20,000 feet elevation!

Seriously tho, for all the talk of the GN buildup, the times were WAY too slow!

Maybe the show is secretly funded by Honda or Toyota or Japan in general, and they are plotting to steal more market share by making the domestics look dumb.

We all know if they were racing Supras or WRX's they would've pulled better than 14's.

LOL

for the money they put in the GNs - they shoulda been running 12s, they only ran 15lbs of boost. the stock turbo rateing ive read in the books to beable to be 22 pounds- and they used an aftermarket turbo. a guy at the track runs 28lbs. i dunno i expected more from the "turbo twins" make my car look respectful damnit.

who would willingly go on TV with the name sundance anyway???

At my folks, cable goes only to channel 40, can't seem to spot The History channel among them...sadly. That left me with Discovery and TLC...MTV's Pimp my Ride of course...this show still makes one laugh, for example, when you hear the host/participant talking about the added race 'fin' to the rear deck... I'm grimmacing in disbelief, yet again haha
I know, it's not REALLY funny.
GN Buicks aren't the most likely race candidates but Firebirds, even more so then Camaros always appeared to me the most race worth aero body stylings...of virtually all GMs, 'cepting, maybe the Corvette

Actually I think they need to get a dynojet and complete the competition portion there. We haveguys that are supposedly enthusiast builder/tuners trying to go out and compete with the first runs of the car ever in actual competition.

I think that they should first dyno tune the vehicles a bit, show us their tuning skills. It is likely even these 14 second nitrous rides were making power in the upper 300 hp range.

Even my old 11.90 JYD only made high 13 second passes until I got some trips to the dragstrip in, with chassis and engine tuning every trip. The same parts on the car for my high 13 second passes as my 11.90's

This would at least give us a chance to giggle about what loser drivers they are instead of condemning their work. Also with tuning we might end up with less blown up cars at the finish line.

also I made this for your enjoyment

hehe

About the only car show that's worth a flip on Spike is Trucks with Stacey. You can tell he does all of the work, look at his nasty hands:hail: Also, it seems like he really knows his stuff and isn't just a spokeperson for the sponsors. If you read the credits, he is also a producer on the show. I've also heard that the 46 Dodge Army truck on there is his truck, so you know it will get done right.

I read the Dean Skuza article in one of the magazines about how nobody wants to pay to make anymore of the shows with him and Cameron Evans. Yet Spike thinks it is just fine to keep playing the few episodes they did make over and over ad infinitum. They do this because we won't quit watching, in hopes we might see an episode we missed or possibly a new one that is never coming.

They actually used to hos an import show on I think the Speed channel. The show had a 74 and 75 firebird in it, but no thirdgens. I also liked the El Camino that ran a high 14 with slicks on it and posi and crate motor. That is pathetic. My 120,000 mile 305 runs mid 14's and it is pretty close to stock.

Best car shows, Horse Power TV, Trucks, and Popular Hot Roding TV. The tools on "Full Throttle" used to host an import show a few seasons back. Also I love how they keep making a big deal about Auto Meter Tacks in the "Pacer/ Gremlin" episode. Like they were gonna cut there ET with it. And what about the Firebird running a 200 SHOT of N20, and running a mid 14!!!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I saw a special edition magazine on newstands called Rides, showcasing cars featured on two related car shows on TLC. I don't have cable, you have to remember, but it closed with mention of how they get requests and what gets consideration... I'd love to submit my own car for a resto special but they do specify hard to get parts usually DON'T make the grade. That right there might cancel me out of the running. It would be totally awesome to see your own ride get featured, but as stated, people are submitting cars in already good shape, even classics! ...Give 'em the beaten and battered road warriors, make it interesting...like mine!

I think they would probably get better numbers and information if they just bought bone stock cars and did only setup and tuning at the track, instead of throwing giant tachs and MSD boxes on them and expected any significant performance increase.

But you also have to remember that the show will die without an audience, but it would never have been made in the first place without sponsors, who probably sabotaged the whole thing by demanding placement of their products.

Oh well. The history stuff is cool.
