89 Iroc for sure?

okay. I need to know this once and for all. I just bought an '89 IROC. 5 speed. 305 TBI E vin. door jam says Production Date 12/88. I've had 4 people now tell me this is impossible to have. when it's right there in plain view. I need proof from the experts here. by the way this thing is bare minimum. no power windows or power locks. yet has power trunk. what do you guys think?

Only true way is to check the I want to say 3rd digit in the VIN which will tell you which year it is. The only other way is to check the RPO code B4Z as well.

yeah thats a good point. next time I'm at the shop I'll check it out. I just think that it's an awful lot of work to clone a normal *** camaro into an IROC. I mean it's got the full IROC suspension package and all so. yup. any other input would be awesome though

But I don't know what the big deal is, they made an '89 Iroc with the 305 TBI with the 5 speed, dunno why anyone is saying it isn't one.

Just a few corrections....

A 1989 IROC-Z will not have RPO Code B4Z. B4Z was an option package on the 85-87 Z28, since the Z28 and the IROC-Z were both available. In 1988, the only Z28 available was the IROC-Z so there was no need for the B4Z code. You will only have Z28 in 88-90.

The tenth digit is the model year, not the 3rd. You should have a "K"

1) Tell those 4 people they do not know Jack. Go get to know him.

2) the LO3 to my knowledge was the base engine on the IROC/Z28 in 1989.

3) the date 12/88 indicates that the car was made in December of 1988. Since production of the model year preceeds the next physical year by a few months, its not uncommon for an 89 car to be made in 1988.

4) 10th didget of your VIn should have a "K" for 89 and "J" for 1988

Your vin should read:
1G1FP21E_KL1_ _ _ _ _

John
