I'm glad to have found this board, it kind of rekindled the Trans Am spirit out there in the shop.
Any pictures of it?

My first was an 86 TPI IROC-Z, Bright Red/Gray, and T-Tops. It had something like 50k mi, was in great shape, and got it for $5500, which was a great deal back then, but later found out it had a rebuilt title. My dad found it at a used car dealership back in Jul of 91, when I was 20. I drove to the beach a few days later, wasn't paying attention to the coolant temp, and wound up throwing a rod. Fortuneately, there was a 30 day warranty on it and remeber the mechanic at the car lot, not being to happy about fixing it. I loved IROC'S(the Italian boy in me) and I remember reading the Article in Motor Trend about that Red 90 that ran a 14.4@97 and was hooked. I wanted one so bad, as one of the reason(s) my first girlfriend broke up with me was "I didn't have a car" and wanted to show her! I actually, pretty much learned to drive with that car, and a combination of inexperience and bad luck made me get in 3 accidents in less than 2 years. I later painted it pearl green because I was in love with the callaway speedster corvette and put a "daytona turbo hood" on it after an accident. I sold it in June of 93, for $5k, cause I had a real bad case of "corvette fever" and got my first corvette, an 87. I will get a Red 90 5.7 someday though.

Finally settled with a 88 GTA, 5.7liter - flame red w/ leather seats. Same year I got married. Just rolled over 40k this week (original miles) - the good old days are over...

First f-body was a '68 Firebird 400 convertible, auto, with A/C. Paid $400 for it after it sat up for several years. I didn't have the time or the facilities to fix it up. I then bought a '75 T/A (400/auto) that needed some bodywork and paint. I traded the '68 to the friend who owned the bodyshop, and he straightened and painted the '75 for me. After my second son was born the '75 was starting to nickel and dime me, and against my better judgment, I traded it to a used car lot for my '87 Firebird (5.0, auto, T-tops). I've had the '87 for 10 years now and it's been a great car. I've autocrossed it, street raced it, went camping in it, modified/updated just about every part on it, and it's never left me stranded.
Since I've owned the '87 I have also owned:
an '89 Firebird (5.0/auto, T-tops) bought for my wife. But get trying to get two small children in and out of carseats proved to be too much for her and necessitated it's sale.
a '96 T/A (LT1/auto, T-tops, loaded) also bought for my wife after the kids graduated out of the carseats. It was totaled when her nephew slid it across five curbs at around 80mph.
a '95 Formula (LT1/6spd, t-tops) bought to replace the '96 T/A. The nephew has never driven another car I own.
The '95 was traded about 8 months ago for a Yukon. The kids are too big now to sit in the back seats of an F-body for any length of time.
But I plan on being buried in my '87

My first was a '75 Rally Sport

My first F body was a 75 Rally Sport when I was 16 in 77. Like a fool when I graduated high school and thought I was a grown up I traded it in on a new Olds Cutlass. I've had a '68 SS and a '86 Z28 that i bought new. I'm restoring an '86 Z now.

My History:

The first 3rd gen I owned was a 1983 Trans Am. It was a total dog, it had been painted white (originally black with gold) the DASH was painted white and it had a huge stereo in it. I thought it was the bee's knees. It got stolen like, three times, stereo ripped out of it, etc. But it was my baby, my first Trans Am. I still have pics of it. In fact, I have pics of every TA I ever owned except one- and that was the 2000 I bought new and sold two years later. The rest were all thirdgens.

Heh, my first thirdgen was an '87 v6 5 spd Firebird. With a purple metallic paint job, American Racing rims, a custom intake by me, flowmaster 80 series muffler with a cat delete, and that was about it. Man I loved that thing....

My first Camaro was my first car...a grey '89 RS 2.8 AT that my mom bought new in September 1989. It was my high school graduation gift in May, 1998 with 56k miles on it. It was mint, but painfully slow...part of the master plan my father had of giving me what I craved, but not so much that I killed myself behind the wheel

I sold it in April 2002, still looking perfect, with 96k on the clock to a 16 year old girl who cracked it up within 6 months. In May 2002 I bought an '89 Formula 305 TPI project car I only kept for 4 months...too much of a project for someone starting grad school. Finally, in May '06 I took in on trade at work my RS...the second I saw the previous owner pull up in it, I knew it would be mine. This car will never be sold...neither will my Z28, which I've had for over 6 years now...

1984 Firebird - V6, and not much else. Picked it up in March 2000 for $900. Did some body work to it, smacked it into a wall, and fixed it up again, then painted it. It was my daily driver for two years, and was a nice first car for me. Sold it for $1000. Up to two years ago, I've seen it on the roads here and there, but I imagine it finally rusted away or died, but, it never did give me any troubles during the time I owned it.

Then in '03, I picked up an 87 Trans Am for $1000. Planned to fix it up and use it as a summer car, but, I really wasn't able to put in the amount of time, energy, and money to truly put it all back together, so I sold it to someone that wanted a project like that and got my money back.

I still keep an eye out for a Trans Am/Formula to pick up as a summer toy, but, I'm going to be a tad more picky than I was four years ago...the right one is out there somewhere!

Car: 1983 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

The first Camaro I owned was a 1983 Camaro Z28, it came with a 5 Speed manual transmission and had a 305 carburated engine. No t-tops,power everything though. It was primered black and had black interior, I dropped the IROC rims on it and the whole body of an IROC-Z, so it looked like an IROC-Z and I sold it recently, but it was a really nice Camaro. I learned how to drive stick in this car and it was fun to drive. I am probably going to end up buying another Third Generation Camaro, cause I really like the look of these cars. But for now I own a Silverado and it is also cool. But later on I'll buy another Camaro or a Trans Am, hopefully soon.

my first car ever was a camaro. In '76 I bought a '68 327 4spd. 2yrs later I sold it and bought a '71 w/ a 396 4pd. That one was brutal. After college came a '72 LT w/ a 350 w/ a T-10 that I dumped a rockcrusher into. Now I'm back w/ my '88Iroc TPI. and am loving it. In between the yrs theres' been various '68,69 chevelles, 70 and 72 BB Monte's and a whole slew of sbc powered stuff.

My family had three.

First was a 77 base firebird upgraded to a 301 with a 4-speed white with blue stripe. My dad bought this one new and wrecked it four times ressurcted it three times last time he maded it a Black and gold TA clone complete with the fake shaker hood (fooled alot of friends) and was going to paint it charcoal grey and silver. Week before it went in for paint was totaled for last time sometime in 86 or 87 it had a 10th anni. TA interior in it.

second was a 78 esprit with a 305 and an auto. Blue. bought after he wrecked the first one. My dad put the same 10th interior that he had in the 77 in this one. Sold it because he wanted something newer.

third 1984 Trans Am Bought in 1990 before he sold the 78. Still have the Trans Am Grey with silver W62 areo T-Tops and an L69 five speed combo. He blew the motor in 2002. Deal was you make it go again its yours. I have been working on keeping it in one piece more or less and in the middle of swapping engines since 2002 The engine would have been in the car this past summer if it weren't for needing an 87 clutch to go with the 87 motor.

Dad looked at a 25th TA and took one for a test drive when they were new but decided that with yet another kid on the way he needed something bigger. oh well.

I am the only child of four fortunet enough to ride in all of them. including the test drive and the 77 clone.

My first one was a '91 Firebird that I got off a buddy for $500 bucks(all it needed was a water pump). Then I gave it to a friend for her son when I moved about 6 months ago. I just bought an '86 Trans Am off ebay a few weeks ago for $1800 that runs great, just needs a little interior work(back seats are ripped up)

This is my 1st and only one (so far). I have no plans ever parting with it, but wouldn't mind adding 1st & 5th gen verts (maybe a 4th someday too).

PS; Hopefully I live that long to afford it.

I haven't looked at this thread in awhile, so scanning through it, your '94 really got my attention. And I have to agree, that car is gorgeous! I've never been much of a fan of the 4thgens, but... WOW!!!

Something else I've never considered was a white interior, but that one is changing my mind. Those seats are really beautiful! And because the 4thgen seats are basically 3rdgen GTA seats, seeing them in nice white leather gives a good idea of how they'd look in a custom application. Very nice!

Re: What was the FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?

My first car which I still own is an 86 Firebird. 2.8 with 700r4. I bought the car not running in the dark for 250 bucks. I have learned from this. I bought the car when I was in 9th grade. Picked at it over time while I got my license. Got it running with a new starter. Did the whole engine tuneup. Put brand new tires/windshield/exhaust on. Went for my first test drive and it overheated. Put a new thermostat in-same thing. Put a new radiator in and I thought I had fixed it. Went to drive it to school the next day and after I picked my buddy up it wouldnt go over 35. Parked it on the side of the road and let my Grandfather take it home. He said the same thing happened to him wouldnt go over 35. I get home and start it up and it starts knockin. But a new engine is the plan for this summer. Everybody asks why I didnt just get rid of it..... What can I say I love the car.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?

Got my first Camaro when i was 16---1992 Camaro RS Heritage Edition, white w/ red stripes, hardtop, 45,000 miles, 305TBI/Auto. that thing was my baby. I avoided having a girlfriend because of that car. It was seriously the love of my life. Crashed it a year to the day after i got it...

Few Months later i got my 1992 Heritage Z28, Black w/ red stripes, 29,000 original miles. T-tops, 305TPI, auto. I love F-bodies. I plan on owning one until i die.

But overall, not too bad considering i'm still 18...

(pics of both cars at my cardomain site)

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?

My first was a 1973 Formula 400 purchased 3/84 from it's original owner, Buck Barnes, sold it in 5/85 when I joinded the Marines
Stationed in 29 Palms, CA I purchased a 1976 Formula 400 in perfect condition from the original owner. It had the "fisher appearance package", rear console, been garage kept and only had 36K miles. Sold it in 1987 when I returned to the east coast.
In 1987 I bought a 1980 Camaro with a V6 that I replaced with a Corvette L82 engine and went crazy from there!
I bought my current Camaro new 5/20/89 and sold the '80 Camaro 3 weeks later.
I've always had an F-body since I started driving in 1984
I miss them all and wish I could track them down and buy them back.

My first Firebird is the 89 I currently own. I bought it 10 years ago from a high school friend. Drove it as a daily driver for 6 years then finally bought a second vehicle so I could do some work on my Firebird!!

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?

It was a 1968 Camaro with an add on cowl hood, which we called a Z/28 hood in those days. It was a 350 with a four speed trans and 4:10 gears and ran pretty good. Couldn't keep up with my other car though, 69 Dart GTS with a 383, auto and 4:30s. Sorry no pics.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?

let bring this thread back from the dead real fast... i seen this and thought it was awesome... but to put my first fbody in it was a 85' sport coupe camaro that was used as a mary kae cosmetics car... thats why when i cleaned out the interior that night i found make-up EVERYWHERE! it was auto and had a 2.8... i traded it to my dad for a silverado longbed with a 350 and sold that for my current fbody the 87' Iroc. -Matt

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?

My first car was a 1984 Camaro Berlinetta (305 engine). It was black with black tinted windows and gold pin striping. It had a beautiful set of Cragar rims. I loved that car and I'm still kicking myself for letting it go. But I was young and stupid.

~ 75 1969 Camaros of every config followed in the next 15 years, plenty of pace Cars, Z28's & BB's but never a COPO 427.

My first F-body was in 93, an 84 S/E V6 with 34,000 miles, like new conditions. I paid it off and totaled it the same day. What a crappy day that was. I’m on my 4th and 5th Firebird now.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?

Mine was a teal 91 RS I bought new. It was the first of the new 91s and the first teal one I saw. The 305 TBI was a joke, but it did sound OK after I put a Flowmaster and K&N on it. Best thing of all was it was a chick magnet- lol.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?

1985 Camaro Berlinetta, bought it off a tweaker last December, 06. It sat in his parents back yard for yrs. I got sick of seing it sit there, so I knocked on the door. They called there son and after a shouting match got him to sell it. He kept claiming he was fixing it. The dirt was pilled up into the rims, when I got in it a big cloud of dust came up from the seats. It had no back seats or carpet and no dash pad or any interior. None of the dash worked, all the wiring was hacked up. But the body is straight as a arrow, no dents or anything. I used the battry off my car to start it, it ran on 6 cylders with a big dust storm that lasted about 5 mins. Paid 900 for it. I had to go to his apartment to give him the $ and get the title. I took some friends with me, in a part of town known for tweakers and such. He was sweating ( in December) and shakin and could not stand still as I gave him the $ and got him to sign the title. He kept claiming I was ripping him off and he was only selling it because his mommy was making him I was glad to leave as the 3 turbo mitsu's made every tweaker come out the apartment building, most just non stop talking.

Now she is back up and running and getting put back together. She is my daily. Just turned 106K I have no plans to sell.

Re: What was rhe FIRST Camaro/Firebird you ever Owned ?

My first Camaro was a new Metallic Grey 1986 Sport Coupe. It was most agile & nimble F-body, I've had. The car was a good car until it was re-ended by a lady hunting for a kleenex in her floor board. The car wasn't right after it was fixed and I ended up trading it. GM was just learning to use acrylic paint and the clear coat started coming off of the car when it was a little over two years old.

The car was traded in on my current 91 RS in May of 1990. The RS has been a better car in every respect except it's not quiet as agile or nimble due to the extra weight due to the 305 TBI.
